  1. Why - does it stand most of the time? Subject to the instructions for the charger it should be OK but it is probably not the best practice.
  2. Leave it? I am far from sure that there is any gain if it is merely "dusty". An oil spill might be different but otherwise just leave well alone, few will ever see it.
  3. How did you record your supposed "real" consumption?
  4. I have fortunately not bought second hand for many years but there is some merit in seeing the car as acquired by the dealer surely to see how it has been used by its previous owner? Presenting in show room condition hides a great deal.
  5. Sorry to disagree but changing the car will not affect his rights. It merely means the replacement must also be fit for purpose you do not negate your rights by accepting their offer But it is "fit for purpose".
  6. But is partial respraying something that should be mentioned, I am not convinced, accident yes, minor scratches no? Why should bodywork repairs be singled out in a way that say a new water pump or whatever would not be?
  7. Nothing. Older cars often need minor resprays simply because of wear and tear so if the colour match is right and their are no curtains or whatever imperfections in the paint get on with life. New paintwork from an approved workshop has no bearing on a warranty.
  8. -What I am looking for is a 2006-2007 RX with about 120-150k kms (75-95k miles) in the ODO. Do you think that much a mile is still ok to buy a car? Not a problem -Based on what I have read so far the RX might have one big issue which is the inverter. Is this a big risk? I mean is this a commom problem? Are there any other big issues with this car? No, check with a dealer or the vendor that the inverter was replaced if this car was involved in that recall. Otherwise not an issue. -What about the tires? How often do you need to change them? Depends on make and how you drive. In excess of 20,000 miles at least probably more. This assumes that they are balanced and inflated correctly. -The batteries: Based on what I have read so far the batteries are still ok in almost all RX cars. Do you think this is true and that I do not need to worry about this issue? No hybrid battery failures are known here. Lexus would rpobably be sympathetic were you to be the unfortunate first. -Any other advices? They are good cars, enjoy Bonus question: -I have never really read about this, but do you think that the big battery could cause some "medical" issues? I mean your kids are sitting on a big bunch of batteries... Nonsense
  9. A week is far shorter than I have seen -2/3 yes but just seven days no. Certainy not my experience either.
  10. Indeed having having had a CT last week as a courtesy car which my RX was having some minor body repairs, I can say that this was the first Lexus that I have driven and not liked. They are as it says on the box 'compact'. Doubtless well-built and engineered they cannot be seen as a substitute for an RX.
  11. The extended warranty is on the hybrid battery used for driving the car not the auxiliary battery. That is the small one which starts the car and powers everything else. That said failures are not that common and unless you are parking the car for 2/3 weeks I would not be concerned.
  12. I doubt it though a Lexus dealer would advise. You could probably stick pieces of vivyl to shield but how long lasting or acceptable it is I know not. I also seem to recall that there was a thread on this subject two/three years back. Have you tried 'search'?
  13. You do not have a tracker, never been fitted as standard so far as I am aware. Then try other insurers, unless you live in a particularly difficult area there should be no problem in getting insurance without - especially for an older car with lower net worth.
  14. Air suspension is merely a complicating factor, nice but on an older car something else which might go wrong. I think that you have to review each car and not be too guided by the nominal letters appended to it - especially later builds. For example SEs were built with MM (multi media) which brought Mark Levinson and sat nav. whereas at one point those were only on the SEL. It is confusing so just ignore it and buy a vehicle which meets your requirements,
  15. Question 1 - No in probability. That is not the purpose of the hybrid battery, it the car does no more than 10 mph at this time in a queue it might well but but beyond it supplements the engine power. In the winter there are other demands for power for which the engine will be essential and it will cut in most of the time. Do not confuse the hybrid system with an electric car. There are many threads on this general topic detailing experiences. Question 2 - of course, if you search here you will find many threads on towing/tow bars.
  16. Never easy but probably still better with a dealer - you might even hit lucky that it is known to them. there must be some connection to the transfer of the passenger but it is difficult to think what.
  17. A 59-plate is surely in warranty - so to the dealer go!
  18. You may think it negative to caution against older cars of this type. However I have said that they are capable of soldiering on BUT there are increasing numbers of people with such elderly cars seeking help on this forum. That speaks for itself. You need to be prepared fro problems occurring, some may be irritating, some expensive. Isn't that the point of this forum? To ask for help - regardless of the car's age?? But it is also a consideration to be taken into account when considering buying one of this age. The Lexus is thought by some to be bullet proof, examples of its failings are very relevant in answering the OP's query.

  20. No, far too old to contemplate buying. Probably 4 years beyond its design life although capable fo soldiering for a while.
  21. Three keys came with the RX400H in 2008 when I bought mine new, 2 black and one grey.
  22. Out of curiosity I googled 0w20 engine oil and there are a number of suppliers of it so it does not seem hard to get hold of it. You could get the first lot from a Lexus dealer and then buy it elsewhere thereafter or try to get the Lexus/Toyota part number and match that. However I fail to see why Toyota 0w20 is not right - simply because an eBay vendor describes it as being for the 1.3 and Prius cars does not raise any issues. Car manufacturers do not make their own oils, merely use those to a specific specification. Their parts operations will then have a suitable manufacturer put it in containers with their own names on and charge what they think that they can get. Mobil, Total and others offer synthetic oils of this description, all of which would seem OK.
  23. Lexus dealer, eBay, Halfords and doubtless many other parts shops or scrap yards should all be able to help although it is now an old car in parts terms.
  24. Why should there be a common rate? Every dealership has its own costs which will differ and therefore need to be recovered in pricing.
