  1. There has been the odd thread on this but suggest you would be better visiting a tow bar specialist or a Lexus dealer for advice.
  2. The use of a "non-Lexus garage" and the fact that it is a second hand car will have greatly contributed to that decision.
  3. No: I have a 58 with 68,000 which I have had from new and no hint of this whatever. 'Policy' support from Lexus assuming that you have owned it from new and had it serviced by a Lexus dealer might be worth a try if the diagnosis is accurate.
  4. Bear in mind that I chose the word "see" deliberately. "Seeing" it is quite separate from 'watching' it and both distinct criminal offences and concerns to an insurer. Fine, the RX300/400 have always coped with snow up to 6/8 inches - possible more on wind swept hills as I have never stopped to measure the maximum depth!
  5. But you must also shield the display so that the driver CANNOT see any movie whilst the vehcile is in motion. To be able to see it is illegal and a vigilant policeman could see that from outside.
  6. As you have only had it for two weeks take it back to the dealer - it will be under warranty.
  7. By "balloons" I assume that you are referring to the airbags on cars fitted with air suspension. I doubt the airbags would make any difference anyway.
  8. I would allow the dealer to make his own diagnosis, once the problem is logged it remains for the dealership to fix.
  9. Tracking generally but: Don't drive over kerbs, into pot holes or straddle speed cushions. The latter is material cause of problems - the track of an RX appears to give you safe passage over them but in reality murders the edges of tyres. You probably don't intend to but...
  10. If you research this topic here it has been an issue for many years - indeed since all the cars were in the hands of their original owners (and thus much newer) which is very much not the case today. It has nothing specific to do with age, build date or RX variant or equipment so far has been established thus far. It is very much to do with cars standing for protracted periods and their individual states of charge and equipment.
  11. Why was it not refilled by the person who replaced the seal - or are you planning to do both yourself?
  12. I'm sure there is some looney lefty law over here, or some daft petition by the tree hugging brigade that will jump up and down and say "It's bad for the environment and it will kill all the plankton in the seas and world will stop spinning on it's axis if you let your engine run without being in the car" I believe there is a nanny law over here that states you cannot leave your car unattended with the engine running. I don't agree with any of the above crap and if I want to start my car remotely to warm it up on cold winter mornings I should be afforded that option. The Ed You cannot leave it with the engine running on the highway but in your drive possibly. However if your car is stolen whilst standing with the engine running, your insurer might well refuse to pay out. Don't think there is anything in most policies about engine running? The usual criteria is car must be locked and keys not in the ignition, which using a remote start device would satisfy both conditions. If in doubt, sue the b*stards and they will pay up !! Don't be so optimistic. The other point that they will surely rely upon is that it is a change to the standard specification of a vehicle which negates the insurance policy totally.

  14. If you have bought a second hand car in that condition from a Lexus dealer then surely you would not accept delivery in that condition?
  15. This saga regrettably confirms that not going to a dealership can be more expensive and ineffective in finding a cure. Spark plugs or glow plugs are highly unlikely to affect the transmission for starters so it suggests that however "respected" (by whom?) these folk are they do not know what they are doing!
  16. Don't know about the RX but on the MK1 IS If you lose your transponder key or "masterkey" then it's new locks, new ignition barrel, new ECU and new keys. This must be common as Lexus do it for a fixed price of £2000! :( Dies not seem to afflict the Mark 2 - produce any key to get a new key from scratch.
  17. The dealership is being dishonest. Lexus offers new plastic cases to which blade and electronics can be transferred for about £45 depending discounts you may get.
  18. It is the usual question of driving style, conditions etc and if you search this forum you will see the spread. 26-34 mpg is a common range with outliers inevitable.
  19. Whilst that may be one thought, the little boys and girls at call-centres tend to work from a script and that will say, alteration, that will be £? extra without regard to such niceties. They could even take the perverse view that some motorists be become too confident and take chances that they might otherwise not have done!
  20. You should use the engine 'brake', 'B': The car will not drive forward if you take your foot from the accelerator. The skill is knowing when to gently supplement this with the foot brake.
  21. Your insurance company may well have a view on non-standard wheels - this is notifiable if you do not want to run the risk of repudiation should you make a claim..
  22. It will be nothing whatever to do with what type of car it is, luxury or otherwise and age is a factor, something has failed. However the most humble car can suffer from these problems so that assertion is wrong. It can be a host of things and a dealer is best placed to sort it and will have the knowledge of how to cheque individual circuits to try to pin it down..
