Am sure Im not the first person to ask this, but after much time and frustration with the search engine I cannot find the answer to whether or not I will be able to change the oil filter without a special tool. when i bought the filter from lexus yesterday they showed me it and said i will not be able to change it myself and tech told me that without it it he coiuldnt imagine how it could be removed. So i have the oil and filter and am off today , just want to know what the answer is before I start as there seems little point in changing the oil and not the filter. tx

No Rattles
delexus replied to nicnac's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
My is250 SEL Auto MM is over 3 years old. When I first got it, it was rattle free. Had to replace the windscreen after about a year and a rattle was added for free!! Lexus Hedge End resolved the problem at the next service so I was a happy bunny. Two months ago, another windscreen had to be put in and, hey ho, the courtesy rattle was thrown in... Service wasn't due for a while so I decided to apply some first aid. I had some stiff but flexible foam in the garage so, after some trial and error, manage to force a strip down between the console and the windscreen right in the centre in front of the speaker grill. It had to be tucked well down which also meant that it was not visible. No more rattle. Worth a try.... PS My last loan car was the diesel and I couldn't wait to get back to the super smooth automatic box that uses all the gears. From the opposite side I have the 220d SE, don't get me wrong, really like the car but after having a 250 SEL on loan during a 3 day warranty visit, what I would do to swap! Seriously looking at the sums at the moment - mine is a company car so car tax might be a problem but I reckon with the cheaper fuel and if you could get around 40mpg on a motorway run in a 250 (and motorways are my main form of travel), there would hardly be any difference in running costs - that's my dream anyway! There is virtually no difference per litre between petrol and diesel. Last year there was an average 13p per litre differnece between them, now as prices have gone up, there is 1-2p difference`. Can someone explain why this is other than a need to discuise the price hikes a bit better . -

delexus replied to bbb's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Road tax on the GS 300, is off the chart compared to any I.S varient. -
Hi Ian, yes had passenger mirror replace with intermittent fault - it was getting stuck facing down when reverse selected and then adjust from the door controls ,then it would free up and work etc etc it was replaced without question under warranty cheers swager I also had passenger mirror replaced as it would only dip a tiny amount when reverse was selected.

Steering Recall
delexus replied to dgman's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
delexus, My brakes were only making noise at low speeds just the last few meters before stopping. that only appear when the brakes are relative cold. They told that the rear brake callipers were the cause of the squeaky noise and it will be replaced under warranty. and they also told me the front brake pads were almost worn out and need to be replaced as well. So i got new front brake pads, new rear brake callipers but using old brake pads. and i havent notice any squeaky brakes yet. Thanks for the replies. Will talk to dealer and see what happens. -
Steering Recall

Alantje, can you give us a bit more info on the brake symtoms you were having?. My car has been in twice for squeaky brakes when reversing with small application of the footbrake. and has come back both times with squeak intact. Im being told it is weather related but it has been there in all weathers and temperatures since early last year. -
I read the Operating Manual too, guess my anti-rollback function doesn't work as it definitely rolls back on steeper inclines. Can anyone vouch for effeciveness of the anti-rollback function? Have nt figured out mine yet. Sometimes works better than others. Sometimes it starts to hold it then gives up. At night Ican see the centre brake light come on when its trying to hold it.

I use mine at every opportunity and have'nt come across the problem - perhaps I just use too many straight roads! I can certainly see the logic of radar only pointing straight ahead so I'm going to make a conscious effort to replicate the situation and will post accordingly. Never experienced that problem on bendy roads, in fact national speed limit "A" roads are my favorite place to use mine. I set the speed higher than the cars in front, and then sit back and let them do all the work of braking for bends and slowing for speed cameras. I do wish there was a way to lower the speed at which it deactivates to say 10- 15mph as this would be allow you to use it alot more on local 30mph roads. One problem I do have is on motorways etc if im going 10-20 miles above speed limit with a clear strech of road in front, when I start to come up on a car in front it seems to take too long to begin slowing down and then has to brake harder as a result. Often think the car following behind me must think im a crap driver as he then also brakes harder only to see me accelerate away once path is clear and then do the same thing with the next car ahead. Not sure if this is just how it is on the I.S model coz the hybrid I had on loan worked flawlessly.

This is very interesting. Mine make a noise when stopping after reversing. Could this be the same problem? Mine also makes a very unlexus like squeal when applying the brakes while reversing. Mentioned it at 10k service, but it hasnt gone away. -
Ooooer missus. Back to the sunblind, on mine you have to move forward again for it to return, yet Treborlex's was slightly different if I remember. (Mines on a 56 plate). Rob can you remember how yours was? I think it is a firmware issue rather than a fault as such. I can confirm mines the same as yours mate. Thanks for the replies. Bit disappointed, but still love my car despite the rattles.

mine never did. it doesnt go up automaticaly once you reversed and choose park. It only goes up again only if you drive forward (more than 9mph) immediately after you reversed. If I reverse park the car and switch off the engine, it doesnt go up automaticaly the next time i drive the car forward. sounds like this is the normal state of play then. It seems Lexus only got it got it half right on the I.S and spot on in the G.S.

Can someone tell me if the rear sun blind on a 57plate SEL is supposed to go back up automatically if you select park instead of driving away after having reversed? Mine never has from new. When I reverse and then park (as you do) the blind stays down until I push the button again which I thought was a poor oversight on Lexus part, however I now know their GS range with sunblinds do go back up if you select park. It does function normally in all other respects i (IE) lowers when selecting reverse and raising again once I get up to about 9mph.

Tyre Pressure
delexus replied to delexus's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
did you ask for the reason why they had not used the settings in the manual. Thanks for all the replies/ Advice. -
Just wondering what pressure people are running their tyres at. Plate inside drivers door seems to show some very high numbers, as high as 44psi. Had a puncture repaired and fitter felt these numbers were also very high and suggested 36 psi was as high he would reccomend. Any imput would be helpful.

The MM system will not read MP3's of any DVD - Single or Dual Layer. It will only read MP3's of CD. I thought the same when I got mine, and was disappointed when it wouldn't. Mine is an original 05 model, so maybe they have updated the software on latest versions, so let us know when you get the car if single layer DVD works for MP3 Mine reads mp3 files on dvd just fine. Dont know about dual layer tho. Someone will be along shortly that will be able to answer O. question
