  1. Hi i bought my 55 plate SE-L in April, and in July it needed 4 new tires, and front discs and pads. after the change i started getting slight shuddering through the entire car when i go above 50mph. i thought maybe the wheels hadn't been balanced properly so took it to another company and had them balanced again, but it was still there. i had all 4 wheels refurbed about a month ago and they balanced them again and it is still there. i don't feel it through the steering wheel though. i then thought maybe it was pressures, so i bought a digital pump, and check the pressures almost every day now but it makes no difference. It also seems to be worse when the car is cold and i accelerate a little harder, like entering a motorway etc. i don't think it is the brakes as it is there all the time, and doesn't get worse when i brake. any ideas before i take it to Lexus? cheers
  2. i use the turtle wax wet look spray, although i take the spray off and use a paint brush and old aerosol lid. i find it works the best out of all. i have also just bought and tried the maguires spray, and used it in the same way with the paint brush and container, and it seems to last even longer than the turtle wax product. i did try the gels, but i find they don't give the glossy wet effect that i like, and the cheaper products have no effect at all. i would throroughly reccomend the two products mentioned, just remove teh spray lids and pour a bit of the liquid into a container and paint it on. this also seems to make the bottle last longer as you are not spraying everything else as well as the tire lol. J
  3. hi if the system is the same as the one in the se-l, then you can only play original dvd movie or music discs. it will read cd mp3 discs only, but i cannot get any dvds i burn to read which seems to be backed up by the manual. it would have been fantastic if it did but i certainly can't on mine. hope this helps. Jason
  4. glad to hear this is working for others as well as myself :) i got caught in heavy rain yesterday after i cleaned the car thoroughly on saturday, and the only part that doesn't need cleaning again are the wheels LOL. this stuff is magic!
  5. I've been driving since i was 9, rally driving since 10 (both my parents were rally drivers before i was born so it's kinda in the blood) and i passed my drivers on my 18th birthday - you have to be 18 in South Africa, and my brother gave me his BMW 3 series for the day to celebrate. i can honestly say even though i had been driving for nearly 10 years, i was bricking it driving through town that first time on my own LOL.
  6. hi ya i use autoglym shampoo and super resin polish as it gives a really good finish. i also apply extra deep gloss finish on top as an extra layer of sealant, and it used to work really well on my black avensis. turtlewax ice is also really really good for every day waxing (i apply it every time i was my car which is around once a week) as it is so easy to apply and remove. i only use t-cut once every 6 months to remove scratches and renew the finish, after claying the car with either turtlewax liquid clay bar or an actual clay bar. basically i use autoglym for everything except wheel wax, tyre polish and scratch removal - turtlewax is my choice for those. hope that helps. as you can probably guess i am a little OCD about keeping mine better than showroom condition lol
  7. Hi all i have always suffered from the old lexus problem with brake dust. i had to clean the wheels practically every time i used the car. then on one trip to my favourite store - halfords ;) i found this product from turtle wax called nanotech wheel wax in a green bottle. i decided to try it, and boy what a difference!! i have tried so many prducts and none of them worked, but this one really does. i now only have to clean the wheels when i clean the rest of the car, which is once a week normally. even when i drive in rain, the wheels don't get nearly as dirty, i would go as far as to say they are 90% cleaner than if i didn't use it and still washed them once a week. i have been using it for a couple of months now and recommend it whole heartedly if you're like me and like your car spotless lol.
  8. Congratulations!!! i too have an SE-L auto. and the only thing i will be replacing it with is a newer SE-L auto lol. I'm certain you will have many thousands of wonderful trouble free motoring in it! can't wait to see the pics :)
  9. Hi and welcome! i'm on my second IS, first was like yours, and now i have a 250, and they are awesome cars. i'm sure you will be very happy with it!
  10. i had a 200 auto before my 250 auto, and although i loved the 200, i feel the 250 is better in every respect. the power, handling, comfort, build quality, looks, everything. the 250 is awesome and adapts so well to different driving styles. if i am in normal economy mind, it is silky smooth and very fuel efficient, but flick over to manual, and use the paddles, and she comes alive. i never drove the 300, but wouldn't have gone for it as i felt the interior was a little dated and boring, and i love all the toys i get in the 250, like the reversing camera and touch screen etc. i loved the 200 as i had always dreamed of having one, but i love the 250 more. the next one will probably be the 250c as i have always wanted a convertible but didn't like the aged look of the sc430.
  11. Hi i have a sony ericcson c902, and it connects perfectly every time. this is my 4th sony ericcson and i can recommend them wholeheartedly. i'm also on o2 and have been for years and years, and wouldn't go to anybody else.
  12. Hi Ya NICE CAR!!! looks great!!!! i use my sony ericcson, blackberry, and XDA Stellar in mine and they all work fine. i haven't tried a nokia, but i can reccomend sony as i have had three or four now and they have been great.
  13. I'm 30, and i'm on my second lexus IS, i had a 200 se auto first, and loved it, but when the new gen IS came out i loved it even more and wanted one soooo bad. i had to wait two years, but i finally got one in April this year, and i absolutely love everything about my SE-L, including the wood trim. i love the look, the feel, the power and there is absolutely nothing about it that says old man's car to me, or any of my friends. i think it's people that are jealous that call it that so they can feel better about themselves LOL. i am waiting a couple years now to get the 250c as that would then give me both my dream cars in one - lexus and convertible!!!!
  14. welcome matey! like the car. i had an is200 before my current 250 and it was awesome, i'm sure you'll have many happy miles with it :)
  15. welcome to Africa! the government can do whatever they want to, and there is nothing you can do. logic and fairness don't come into it. and the rest of the world isn't interested in doing anything serious about it cause there is nothing to gain from it...like oil. actually, it didn't take long for people to adjust, and apparently it is cheaper to live now that everything is in USD, but only for the middle to upper income earners. the low income or poverty line families were screwed either way. now you know why so many of us got out years ago and started our lives fresh over here where we still have a chance...
  16. i've got my parents over from Zim at the moment and they tell me the Zim dollar is no more. they are now officially using the US dollar and what's worse, is that all the zim dollars that were in the banks were simply deleted - as in you had millions in your account on the 31st, and the government announced on the 1st that the dollar was no longer legal tender and everything was gone and you had to start from scratch - seriously! my aunt lost all her pension - everything. it was only because my folks own their own business and had been trading in us dollars for ages before that they had very little impact. absolutely crazy isn't it!
  17. i'm gutted!! i was looking forward to this and meeting other owners, and now i have to go to South Africa on business and will miss it :( hope you guys have a great time!
  18. Hi Ya i run my car on Tesco 99 most of the time, and the normal 95 at other supermarkets when i have to, and i hardly ever use the 'Brand' names and i haven't had any problems at all - hope that helps
  19. hi on my 250 auto i get about 350 round town and about 480 to 500 open road, and about 400 if i have a mixed month lol i've quoted the best figures i've achieved over the last two months ownership, but i have to say it really does vary from tank to tank, sometimes i don't even manage 300 off a tank, but that's usually when i've been bored and have been 'enthusiastic' with the acceleration ;)
  20. i still love it lol. i think it adds that final touch - like a statement of pomp and ceremony that says you are about to experience an exceptional car :)
  21. good man lol - wish mine had adaptive cruise, but the next one will.
  22. like i said, tho, you have to be very disciplined and not floor it from every traffic light and circle lol. i do think it's an incredibly efficient engine especially on the motorway. if you do get one and can afford it, go for the multimedia - it is awesome with the reversing camera and plays dvd movies lol.
  23. i currently get between 30 and 32mpg round town and between 36 and 39.5 on the motorway - with an average combined 35 since i bought mine. i am very gentle with the accelerator 95% of the time tho lol.
  24. Hi Tinka i have a 250 auto, and i can tell you i wouldn't swap it for all the BMWs in the world except maybe for the 3 series convertible, but now that the 250 c is coming out i won't even have that problem. i drove all the german rivals and i found that the lexus was the best all rounder for everyday driving. it is soft enough over the bumps to be comfortable, but is really agile and sure footed at the same time. i firmly believe that unless you are going to be doing serious track time etc there is absolutely nothing between them as far as the drive goes. i used to do rally driving back in africa, so i still like to accasionally 'stretch her legs' and i still get the excitement and thrill from the lex. where they are worlds apart is in the spec, and the attitude of the dealers to customer service. when i specced up the bmw to have anywhere close to the spec of the lexus it was at least 3k more, and i was disgusted with the attitude of the few dealers in my area. they all treated me like they were doing me a favour 'allowing' me to drive and purchase their car. with lexus, i was treated like royalty from the second i walked through the door. i have many friends and colleagues with the bmw and they have far more problems with theirs than i have ever had with either of the lexus models i have had - the worst problem i have with mine is a few rattles :). and another point to make - everyone and his mate buys the 3 series and they are now more common than mondeos whereas with the lexus there is still a air of exclusivity ;) anyway, that is how i feel and i would wholeheartedly reccomend the 250 auto any day. good luck
