The IS200 doesn't have hydraulic tappets. I noticed something this morning. Over night it was not as cold as other nights so this morning the noise wasn't that bad. I turned off and turned on the engine again and it was ok? Is it something I should be concerned about? If I change the oil, what oil should I use? I would like to use synthetic but I would like to know what brand do you guys recommend..and what grade? Given the fact that is a bit colder outside, a thicker oil should do the job just fine ? Please advise... M

Hi mate, I use Shell Ultra 5W-40. However, this problem occured just few days ago and it worked just fine so far. The oil filter is K&N one so no chepies there....

Hi guys, Just recently when I start the engine in the morning I can hear a strong tapping metalic noise from the engine. I've added more oil yesterday but still no go. The engine goes away in few minutes or if I turn on and off the engine few times. I've added some water as per Steve's indications inone of the previous posts and it worked, however the engine was off only for 1 hour. I will see what's the deal in the morning. The strange thing is the engine is very obvious if I wake up really early(5 am) and is very cold it will make the noise, but if I wake up later(when is getting a bit warmer) is going ok. Is my car trying to tell something?:)) like don't go to work so early. Is there anything I can do? Change the oil ? I've already top it up and I think the oil is quite clean(still the clear honey colour). I used Shell syntetic one..would that be cause ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. M

Scott_R has these on his Lex they are not RHD but he had them converted but it did take a fair amount of work iirc, there are a few is200/300's on cardomain with those gatling gun style headlights they look stunning imo. Here's one - CLICK ME I love this Lex it's stunning :) shows those projector headlights off really well too (Custom IS300 JDM Headlamps with Oracle Halos and Q45 Retrofit Projectors ) Mate, i found them on ebay for 1bout 250 including shipping which is quite good. Now, I will need to convince my wife that "we need them". Linky :D Linky then!!!!

Don't you just hate that? I had a similar problem when a lady backed into my car and drove away. I was lucky enough to have someone who saw her and got her number plates and left a small note on my windscreen.(I know ...these sort of people are very rare). i could've sort it out my self, but I let the insurance comapny to take care of her. In the end she forked out around 500NZD..enough I think for being stupid. gutted for you mate. Did you kill her? :))

Hi mate, you might want to have a look at this: Linky and decide your self if you want to go down to that path. There is tihs guy in NZ who sells his 3sge blitz supercharged for 4000 NZD which is somewhere around 1300 quid but it's up to you. You might find some superchargers on that website. I could help you out with that , if you find something as I have an account with TradeMe and I can sort it out. Cheers

What's the fuse that controls the interior centre light?

Wow, the answer straight from the man himeself...I can't get better than that. When you say it was a pretty good fit , did you use any force to fit it ? I am afraid that if I use a 3 inch one (73mm) it would be way too big and it would look quite stupid on the throtle body. I will see how it goes.

I am trying to install a pod filter on my Lexus IS200 and I came accross to some really cheap silicone tubes. i have a 3" pipe that I am going to be using to have the same setup as Aztecbandit (before he went to supercharger route). Does anybody know the diameter of the throtle body(intake)? Would a 3" 90 degrees do or I need a smaller size? or a reducer (73 cm to 60 cm). Thanks for your help.

They were not hard for me to install because Stav did them when he was up at mine on Saturday Thanks guys & girls they do look well smart. Also liked the way Stav has got some extra ones mounted in the centre of the dash, where the air vents were. Think I would also like to do that aswell. In my opinion i think they would look better on the centre of the dash where the sat sav sits. I've seen some real nice black or CF on ebay a while back. 3 of them oriented to the driver would look really nice.

Can you check the relay in-place on the board ? i.e. using a multimeter, finding no current coming out of it in the normal situation, then when you turn the fog light switch on, whether anything is coming out of it then ? What year is your car ? '99

Yep, I checked the relay and it was working fine. The dash light I think it has been taken out or something by the prev owner. I will replace some bulbs in my dash just to make sure I've got everything but as I said before, they were working fine. HEEEElp

They look really nice Mr. Mole. Was it hard to install them? I think I will get the NOS carbon fibre ones(since I am going with carbon fibre inside the car) as they are on special at Autobarn. I will post a pic of the once I got them.

How about the normal tail lights (not fog lights), I presume they work ok ? When you say the front ones don't work, does the dash light come on when you switch them on ? I wonder if the problem is with the switch on the stalk. The tail lights work ok. When I switch the front ones on the dash light doesn't come on...never have but the fog lights were working fine. When I switch the back ones on, the dash light comes up. So, how can I check the switch on the stalk? Thanks for your help in advance mate.
