  1. My GS430SE has the 18" sport wheels fitted which, as far as I know, were an option when the car was new. Does that mean that the geometry on my car is non standard? I think he meant speedometer not geometry, but no changes are necessary just make sure you choose the right profile tyre. If you change the rim size ie 17" to 18", you need to make sure the tyre has the correct profile to compensate. This makes sure the tacho reads correct and also acceleration doesn't suffer, all be it very slightly. There are charts on 'wheel' web sites that show what tyre profile you need for a particular wheel. For eg if your 17" wheel with tyre is 24" diameter ( 24" is big just an example to use ) then a replacement 18" with tyre should also equal 24". It's all about the profiles. Any rim supplier will give you the information. Personally, keep the 17".
  2. Do you have a warranty? I bought one through Warranty Direct and have the Extra care with the extra options for fuel ( oxygen sensors! ) and airbag cover. It is a thorough warranty, Honest John the Telegraph dude rates them as he has had no complaints and What Car sells the warranty through their mag. It might be worth giving them a ring. I paid £400 for 12 months and it is like for like a Lexus warranty for less than half price. This price includes the work to be carried out at a Lexus dealers too. I have had to clam from them through a previous warranty I had. The problem was a head gasket but as the car was a V6 they agreed to change both gaskets. The bill was over £1000 and I paid for the fluids and a new timing belt. So my bill for the work was £100 instead of £1000. The bill was also settled direct with the garage. A good company. Oxygen sensors shouldn't break as often as they do surly?
  3. Hi Tony, NO WAY! This is odd! I suppose our cars were manufactured at the same time (ish). Did you buy the same time as me, about 5 months ago? My advise is that if the light comes on again take it to a Lexus dealer, don't ring them as the problem may as you say disappear by th time of the appointment. They should check it straight away. If it comes up with the same error codes as my car get in touch with the guys who sold you the car regardless of warranty. I found out that consumers have buyers rights before 6 months where the garage has to prove that there was not a problem with the car at time of purchase, almost impossible to do. Therefore you then have a legal right to claim for repair of a refund of some of the purchase price to cover repair. I didn't have to quote any of the to the garage I bought the car from as they knew their of their obligations. Also worth giving Lexus GB a ring. Apparently the ECU is a known fault on early cars and were replaced if any had a problem under the 3 year warranty, some cars slipped through the net, like ours. I think the last time I had ECU problems was in an Austin Montego! I hope you get this sorted and that this is the last of the problems! Hi - yes dealers do have 6 months under sale of goods act but only for faults present when the car was sold - that is why we have warranties: for future problems. If the engine light was not on when the vehicle was sold or within a very short time of that sale then it is simply a fault that developed after sale and the dealer has no legal responsibility. Obviously they may well offer a goodwill solution. Always try to negociate a warranty and check its terms ie payout limits. Hi, The dealers solution, in my case, was to offer the cost of replacement of the ECU and sensors plus fitting, £3006 in total. This was good of them, in fact this was very good of them. I have since bought a warranty which includes, everything, including sensors!
  4. It could have been worse but £350 is still a lot to pay for a sensor. These things are so expensive and they shouldn't be really, a sensor really is a simple piece of kit. I still have my car to fix, nothing's progressed since the fault was diagnosed 2 weeks ago. I'll ring them tomorrow to see what the deal is.
  5. What a pointless topic. Asking for advise, most people telling you to not buy a diesel for a multitude of reasons, and you dismissing the advise. A search on this forum would suggest the diesel is, lets say, not very good. Sorry but I had to respond. I've read a few posts like this before where someone has asked for advice, received the advice then ignored it. It seems that once someone has made a decision then all suggestion is ignored. How may responses, from owners and previous owners indicated that the 220 was rubbish. Did you test drive a 250 to gain a comparison as suggested? Sorry, i'm grumpy today, but I think you have made a mistake in ignoring peoples experiences. I do hope though that you have bought 'a good one'.

  7. Hi, What a horrid start to the day. I started the car as usual and the VSC check light was lit up to greet me along with engine light and traction light. I rang Lexus who said the lights may go out after a while, they didn't. I took the car to the local dealer who plugged it in to the diagnostics and I waited. I was thinking, because the car was running ok, that the tech would simply extinguish the lights and job done. I was wrong. I was asked if I had warranty, the car is 4 years old. I haven't any warranty. I replied. After a deep breath, the chap said 'you need two oxygen sensors and an ECU'. What? It's only 4 years old, full Lexus history, 27k miles, this can't be right, Lexus never break, do they? Apparently early GS300's can have dodgy ECU's, they were revised later on, has anyone here had a problem? I got the details for the repair and the total cost is.....................£3006.22. Yes, two weeks all inclusive to Mexico worth of fixing. I rang with hope Direct Cars in Sheffield, the dealers I bought the car from 5 months ago. They rang me back and said that they had spoken to Lexus and asked me not to worry as they, Direct Cars, would foot the bill for the repair in full. I'm so relieved these guys saved the day. I thought that I would share this with you guys just to let you know that there are some dealers out there who do care for their customers and help out. I'm so relieved that I'm not facing this bill, and yes, I am going to get a warranty!! Are ECU's that fragile?
  8. I will take a pic tonight but I shall try to describe too. 1- Sit in your back seat, turn 180 deg and face the rear windscreen. 2- Look up and you will see the roof lining, you can fit your fingers under it and feel the screen. 3- Gently take the roof lining and pull down, not too much, just enough for the spray nozzle and be careful not to crease the lining. 4- Take the silicon spray, attach the tube to the nozzle ( the tin of spray should come with a tube attachment). 5- Spray along the window up under the lining. Spray the full length of the rear windscreen, the amount needed is more judgement than anything. This should work but you'll need to go out in the sun to try, if it still squeaks just spray more. I only had to spray it once and it cured the noise. :D
  9. Hello, At last someone else who has this problem, I went to Lexus with this and they could help but at a price, in the end it was an easy fix which I solved The first thing is, is that it is not your parcel shelf squeaking. Sit someone in the back and they will tell you it is in fact the rear window. When Lexus put in the rear window at the factory location clips were left in. It is these that start to expand and rub and cause squeaking when it gets hot. The noise is like rubbing 2 balloons together. The fix is to take out the rear window and take out the clips. The problem is that this will be expensive and more so if the window breaks. My cure, and it works as I have no squeaking since I did it, is to buy a tin of silicon spray, not WD40 as this is smelly, (try Halfords). Carefully put the spray nozzle under the roof lining near the rear window and gently spray along. Do not saturate and be careful not to crease the roof lining! Enough spray is when you start to get a few runs on the window, wipe this away and your'e done! I did this after the window started squeaking, but since spraying silicon spray I haven't heard a squeak for weeks! Let me know how it goes!
  10. I saw one at Lexus Sheffield in a metallic white, very beautiful. The car on display had a ticket price of almost £44K !!!! How many will sell?
  11. Hello. 1) Yokohama, not run flat 2) Do you have to still do this? I thought directional xenon lights were different. Not sure though. 3) 80k service should be around the £330 mark. It's a full service but the expensive plugs should have been change during the 60k service. I just found this on the AA web site: Modern high-intensity discharge (HID) or xenon headlights These can't be adapted by applying an external mask. Fortunately, many feature an internal 'shutter' that can be moved into place by a screw or lever adjustment at the back of the headlamp unit. But some designs are less convenient and the dealer will need to make the adjustment. You'll have to let us know if you find out how to do it!
  12. Hello Tony, I paid £129 as I got a 10% discount. I think there are 5 dvd's covering the whole of Europe.
  13. It doesn't know about M1 J29A though Now you spoiled it.................. ;)
  14. Ha, exactly my problem, although my old nav DVD was from 2005 so I had a lot of missing roads etc!
  15. I installed my sat nav DVD today and to my delight the disc updated another feature. My wife rang when I was in the car and I could hear her, very loud, so loud I had to turn the volume down whilst on the move! I thought that the phone volume was rubbish, very quiet indeed, but the new disk has solved this! I am also pleased the nav now knows the roundabouts on the A1 have been removed and that Sheffield has new roads! Cool.
  16. Sorry about this but it's a new one on me. Hopefully someone will have the answers for you. Are you sure it's not the sun woofer bouncing around? Might even be the rear shockers? Phil I have just been out and threw my mate in the back seat. He said it was definatly the window, at the top where it meets the roof trim. I spoke to Lexus and they have heard of this too and suggested the window removal but this is £££! I'm going to buy a tin of silicon spray and spray a little up in the seam to see if this helps. It is an annoying noise but it isn't all the time, just when the sun is on the rear window!
  17. Has anyone had to take out their rear window to remove some clips and did this cure the problem? I have also heard it could be the leather armrest rubbing, any info would be good!
  18. Could be the Iridium tipped plugs that will need changing!
  19. Hello. Whilst driving yesterday a squeak occurred. It started after an hour of driving in the Sun. It was a loud noise, like rubbing 2 bits of polystyrene together very quickly. I got my wife to jump in the back seat to see where the noise was coming from. She said that it sounded like the rear window rubbing, not the door windows but the big rear window!!. :o She said it wasn't the parcel shelf but defiantly the window!!? I was going to take the car to Lexus but after an hour the noise got quieter and has now disappeared, very odd. I have read that the rear window seal can cause a noise has anyone had this problem?
  20. Hi, yes they are bought CD's. I thought that they would have had the Info needed for the car to read it, oh well. It would have been a nice feature but I suppose I can live without it. I have a new problem though, I will start a new topic!!!!!! Thanks for your help!
  21. Hello, Does anyone know of a fix for this. When I listen to a CD and press the view disc and track info I get the disc and track info screen but it is blank. This happens with any CD being played. It's a minor gripe but I'd like this to work!
  22. Does anyone know of a fix. When I listen to a cd, MK3GS by the way, and I press title info on the display, the title and track info displays but with no info. This happens with any cd I'm listening to, it's no big deal but it would be good if I can get it to work!
  23. I tried the moving mirrors up, down, left and right. Hey presto, it worked, my mirrors tilt down in reverse Thanks for the info!!!!!!!! :)
  24. I will try this tomorrow too! Both my mirrors stopped tilting when selecting reverse but I have had a change of battery recently.
