  1. Hi, Just out of interest, what is the mileage on your car that necessitates wheel bearing replacements ? Malc
  2. 8 years of driving an LS400 .............. never had a worry about driving in the wet. Drove very, very carefully in the snow this winter too ..... didn't like it much but I got home safely when all around me was mayhem on the M2. People driving like utter looooonies and their cars all over the place and STUCK and DAMAGED. If you're lucky ..... and you drive carefully and sensibly, then you just might avoid the avoidable wet and snow problems. Maybe age and experience is a factor in all of this ..... I have been driving for nigh on 100 years ( I jest, but it has been a while ! ). Malc
  3. Have I understood this correctly? Does it mean that you have to drive continuously for a whole hour at speeds between 31mph and 62mph just to reset the TPMS? Or is is several drives totalling one hour? I tend to check and reset tyre pressures weekly and having to drive for an hour just initialise the TPMS seems to be a lot of effort! Now you see, technology gone mad .................. that's the main reason why my LS400 is soooo old ........... simple technology and do you know, the tyre pressures very rarely need checking ........... manually ! Good luck when u buy ur LS430 Malc
  4. Cambelt ..... I only ever paid for one to be done on my 1992 LS400 a few years back at 120k miles. I didn't go to Lexus ............... bonkers price ..... although I understood then that the booked time for the job was @ 4 hrs....... which is unrealistic. I had the job done at a local non-Lexus garage and it took the best part of 8 hrs ( really , it's a dreadful job to do ) and the total cost, including discs and pads all round and two new tyres was still a little less than the Lexus cost for the cambelt alone !! Simple choice if you're concerned about the economics of it all. Malc
  5. Oh well, pass on by .............. there's always another one waiting for you ! I spent the best part of 6 months finding my " new " '94 car. Malc
  6. Shame, would £1500 buy it and spend £500 to get it much better and keep the car. Coz if it's otherwise superb !!!! it wil last you another 5 years minimum Malc
  7. Hi, from my own personal experiences of driving a 1991 LS400 for 5 years to @180k miles and now my present 1994 LS400 for 3 years and approaching 35000 miles, I would say that the crux of the problems are @ 150 / 160k miles with suspension stuff and alternator and leaking power steering reservoir ( linked to alternator issues ). Normal tyres, brakes and battery fair wear and tear BUT absolutely bugger all else to cause anxiety. The dash lights on the 93/94 models and the early to 92 time and temp indicator lights wear out too. These can be fixed relatively modestly cost wise by Vince on here. Otherwise I can't think of anything thats going to cause you any grief. Hopes you won't be able to prove me wrong either ! Good hunting. Malc
  8. Has it been so long as a a month ? say £10 a day then ! = £3650 pa ................... how much extra fuel costs might you have saved. Let alone excess depreciation. Wise decision I'm sure to return to the LS ...... . welcome back ............. let this be a stark warning to others that play around and decide to be unfaithful ! Malc
  9. Hey, I often do ! But I've also had a few gestures from other marque drivers for some reasaon or other And what's more, I recall ( just ) as a kiddie ( in the 1950's ) being driven thru' the Lake District when the AA Patrol guys on their bikes and sidecars used to acknowledge their Members too. Not too many cars about then maybe. Guess I'm too old for this forum or suffering from summat strange as I can actually remember that far back ............. How times change ! Malc
  10. If it was done later I guess it's OK to ! But if not then no doubt you'll factor in the likely cost. Previous owner had mine done after 10 yrs ( in 2004 ), but at only 3104 miles tho'. I think I'll probably wait to 66,000 miles before I have it done again ...... maybe in 3yrs time, now done 34500 miles. Malc
  11. [font="Comic Sans MS"]It is the 430 which is 10years/100k. Previous models (LS400) were 7years/63k. I had a mark 3 and 4 and this was the information in the hand books. Many thanks
  12. Hi, just to calrify please ... .. is it 100,000 miles or 10 years for a 1994 LS400 too ? Thanks. Malc
  13. It looks really good; it's so nice to see such a lovely stunner ......... mine needs some tlc too but not sure I'll go too far down the road of " spotless " like your's. Well done. Malc
  14. Hiya, can't understand why it's taken you so long to find the very best car in the world to own and drive !!! :winky: Seriously, I've been driving the LS400 for 8 years now ( this my 2nd. is a 1994 and now at 34k miles ). Just about faultless motoring, safety and comfort and yours at 57k miles not even run in. Spares can be expensive but if you're lucky you'll never need to replace anything ......... I don't jest ... .. well, maybe brakes and tyres, battery and an oil change, but not much else for a very, very long time. The cambelt might go to 100k too, but it might need changing at 10 year intervals tho' and that can be espensive but there will be a non- Lexus guy who could do it not tooooooo expensively for you I'm sure. Just sit back, relax and thoroughly enjoy Rolls Royce motoring at a fraction of the cost. Pay what you feel is right for the car, there's little depreciation left to worry about at this level and price ! Happy motoring. Malc
  15. I remember people saying that the Govt., over the past two years or so, has been threatening to bring the tax on LPG right up to make the cost per mile on par with petrol and diesel. Hope not BUT I would certainly factor this into the equation when deciding to go for an LPG installation. :tsktsk: Malc
  16. Hi, Cambelt is 10 years and 65 or 100,000 miles between changes. Strange, the old thought process was 60 and 65k miles but on here somewhere they are now saying 100k miles intervals. Malc
  17. Sell the wife instead ? Sory to hear of your sadness and devastating news. Malc
  18. Hi, I've always kept my pressures for these size tyres at @30 psi and they seem OK from comfort and wear levels. But not had them at any other pressures I'm a bit stuck to comment otherwise I guess ! :) Malc
  19. Hi, for me and the missus from Feb2010 I paid £447 + tax and with a £100 xcs. The windscreen cover xcs is quoted at £25 for their approved company ( £40 otherwise ) and that is the xcs I paid for a replacement w/s on another of my cars this year with the NFU. But it was back in Februaury ! Malc
  20. Hi, as ever I guess it's your age and postcode and garaging etc. As I said before, I find the NFU good for the past 4 years and being a Mutual a Policyholder gets year on year benefits from the company profits .......... reflected in maybe reduced premiums ! Also I would always go for fully comprehensive, mainly coz of the windscreen cover. £25 xcs with the NFU. Can't begin to imagine what a new windscreen would cost on a LS400 ! Malc
  21. Sounds like a good result , but nothing less than you deserve tho' ! Did you get your £1000 back from the breakers for the gearbox sent back ? Hope so ........... and I would tell the Dealer that for all the grief suffered the LOC would expect some sort of compensation ............ freebie wheel bearing job, to at last, after such a long time, getting you back into the car that you will love and cherish for years to come ............. and that the LOC are seriously keeping an eye on the final outcome and would expect nothing less than total satisfaction. Try it ... you might be lucky :winky: Malc
  22. Would really like to know how this resolves ! Thanks. Malc
