  1. We might be of a generation that will be able to update / buy something for modern day driving and economy AND keep our LS400s too. I don't see any reason to dispel the certainty ( not myth ) that the LS will go on forever !!! It's such a wonderfully classic design and style and with the comfort of the very best, and reliability that other manufacturers can only ever HOPE to emulate. Malc
  2. Maybe, just maybe I'll be keepimg my LS400 for another 20 years !!!! OMG what do you reckon ? What on earth could one buy that is better than the existing. Depreciation stopped years ago and maintenance is tiddly. I do own another car too that's even older than my LS ..... a 1932 Triumph. Perhaps I'm in a timewarp or summat. Malc
  3. Hi, I think I might have mentioned a while ago that it was my thoughts that whatever the Govt. of the day they have the ambition to equalise the value of LPG to Petrol and probably Diesel within a few years timeframe. And to stealthily or otherwise generate whatever duty / tax they can from whatever source. Greenish LPG might be, but with electric cars ( truly GREEN ???? ) one has to refuel in short time and WAIT for hours at the refuelling stop which is a real bugger I guess if it involves an overnight somewhere, when on other fuels you could actually be at your destination. Big annual miles and an LPG conversion might well be economically viable but otherwise, well, who really knows ! Malc
  4. Just run in then ..... ... I couldn't imagine life without my LS400. Malc
  5. Can't imagine it's from a 1994 LS; mine doesn't have power ones'. Well, not that I've discovered yet anyway !! Malc
  6. Modified but very, very, very subtle please. The original model is just so beautiful. Where is your piccy taken Whysub ? Your car looks amazing ! Malc
  7. Hi, just read your post. Try Maurice / Benfur on here; he breaks LS400s. Malc
  8. Hi, I guess the real hope is that you never have to use the Warranty and that it's been a total waste of money .......... OR, would you rather get value from it and have lots of problems covered by the Warranty ! Either way you win, it just might not feel like it at the end of two years. I'm sure whatever decision you have made it is the right one for you. Good luck Malc
  9. WARRANTIES it's simple really. My experience as an erstwhile car dealer also selling warranties is simply; The warranty company would not be selling the product if it wasn't able to make a profit from the deal. The warranties I dealt with were a mixed bunch, but mostly the conditions made it often difficult for the claimant to validly claim to get reimbursed. This is a good earner for the warranty companies and even Lexus aren't doing it for the love of their client. If you want the security of a warranty company around you then go4it. Personally, I would save the warranty fees and put it towards the ( unlikely ) costs of covering whatever exceptional events might otherwise result in a valid and reimbursable warranty claim. Warranties never ( as I understand it ) cover wear and tear and serviceable items that should have been serviced and replaced in the normal course. Hope this helps in your decision. Malc
  10. Hi, good morning .......... how did u manage in all that snow ? Glad u enjoy the very best car in the world !! Malc
  11. Hi and welcome. Try Benfur / Maurice on here , he breaks LS400s. Malc
  12. I think it's just a nice friendly site and sometimes it's really good for other members to see what might be troubling others and of course, it's really smart to help out when someone's having a stressful time. Just carry on the way we are I reckon .... it's good and without compromise, it's a happy thing to do ...... just to help !!! Malc
  13. Hi, LEXUS KEYS well for the LS400 anyway ! My understanding is that Lexus put the new / replacement key orders out to the tame key cutting businesses that are able to deal with the high tech imposed by these Car Companies. There happens to be one in Margate, who replaced my earlier non-teccy key BUT advised me that they actually do the full key cutting / replacement service for Lexus because they are one of the very few businesses in the country that have invested heavily in the appropriate technology. I don't know where you are in the country but it might be worth exploring this aspect too before you invest heavily in a Lexus Dealer ordered key. Malc
  14. I had a similar problem with a Saab ( sorry !! ) a few years back in Ashford Kent town centre with the communications mast there just buggering up the workings on the electronic key fob. So it's probably not just in one or two locations I guess. Malc
  15. Hi, Happy Christmas BENFUR on here breaks LS400's Dartford Kent way somewhere ! Malc
  16. Hiya. is it an Irish originating car with that number plate ? Those wheels look good ............... bet the replacement tyres cost a fortune Malc
  17. Since when did a wife know better than a fella who actually owns, drives and adores his LS400 ??? Like a good mistress, keep the car and nurture and love her and keep her tucked away when it gets cold and unbearable ........... rent / hire / steal something with a FWD or whatever for those very, very few occassions when the LS needs a little more TLC. Or hide yourself away with your mistress ( YOUR LS ) until the worst is past ! Malc
  18. I suppose that when a lightbulb does finally go after about 150,000 miles Lexus would think it's a " major " fault ! I've only had one bulb go in about 100,000 miles of LS400 motoring. Malc
  19. Ah, didn't know it had one of those! Where will t be? Fully open the sunroof and they are at the two front corners in my 94 LS400. I just poked them gently through with a wooden toothpick ( don't break it tho ). Malc
  20. Damp headlining is probably just a sunroof drain hole bunged-up. Malc
  21. I don't know but I'll start the ball rolling and suggest it might be a very worn bush somewhere and nothing tooooooo dramatic. Malc
  22. Well, if u can't see the current level in the reservoir then it will be EMPTY ! Suggest you just top it up until you reach the COLD level and see how it goes over the next few days. Malc
  23. When the PAS pump on my 92 LS400 was leaking it eventually became an MOT Advisory ! Malc
  24. Why not try the local Toyota Dealer first ........ then if you get the same obfuscation I would look for any competent cambelt changing mechanic who would probably leap at the opportunity to do your work. Malc
