  1. I'd assumed the thread had been started by some dodgy AI bot and I had therefore resisted the urge to reply. Clearly you are human after all. :D You should get the car checked. It might be something as simple as the tickover being set too low or the car being on an incline. On the other hand it could be something more serious, like a problem with the torque converter. + 1 .. get the car checked ... Out of curiousity .. is the IS 250 AWD available in the UK??? My understanding was only the RWD was available in the UK...
  2. I am not trying to smart here ...just bored at work .... now that the question is answered ... lets try spotting the other cars in the car park .. Merc M class in silver and Golf GTI (mk 6??) behind the lexus BMW 5 Series in Black and 3 series in white looking straight ahead from the windscreen of the Lexus .. possibly Alfa Romeo GTV Spider in maroon looking in between the Lexus and A5 VW passat in Black and Ford Ka in Red next to the A5... Ford Escort in Blue and Honda Civic in black looking straight from the boot of A5 and possibly a Ford transit in white next to the honda... i spotted the easy ones ... any others???
  3. Hi there, the transmission has P,R,N,D and S, right? when it is in D, there is no speed.. one of my fd has 20km/h when the transmission is in D. Correct me if I am wrong ....I think what you are trying to say here is when you put the gear stick in Drive 'D' your car doesnt move at all unless you use the accelerator ...... but your friends does upto 20KMPH without using the accelerator????
  4. Hope this helps 1. What is the average MPG on the 220d and 250? I used to get 47 on my Mondeo but in the past year it has gone down to 39. I currently own a manual IS250 SE- L and i get 28-30 MPG combined consistently, my colleague whos has got an Auto F-sport manages 32. Not sure about the 220d but based on reading the forums, it manages between 35- 45 on the combined mileage, again this is not my personal experience, but just from the forums. 2. When did the facelift occur, 09 plate? Yes. 3. What are the differences in trim levels? (picked this from Parkers) In addition to the standard model there are SE, SE-L and Sport trim levels. The equipment fitted to the standard car includes a six-disc autochanger and 13-speaker stereo, keyless entry, cruise control, electric windows, electric heated mirrors, tinted glass, climate control and 16-inch alloys. The SE model adds eight-way electrically adjustable seats with an inbuilt heating and ventilation system, leather upholstery and 17-inch alloy wheels. The SE-L specification adds rain sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, auto-dimming mirrors, electrically adjusted steering column, powered rear blind, illuminated scuff plates, xenon headlamps and high quality wood trim. Sport model has 18-inch alloys and memory settings for the seats, wheel and mirrors. In 2008 the trim levels were changed to SE, SE-I and SE-L while a new sat nav pack was introduced which includes a rear parking monitor. In December 2009 a sporty F-Sport model was added which gets a sports grille, a rear spoiler, sports grille, unique 18-inch alloys, sports seats and an IS F style steering wheel. At the same time, a new optional sat nav system was introduced which uses a 40GB hard drive. 4. Does the multimedia pack come as standard in any trim level of car or is it just an optional extra for and trim level? No, it doesnt come as standard (Again picked from parkers).. All models feature a 13-speaker stereo system although this can be upgraded to a thumping cinema standard system, complete with DVD satellite navigation and a monitor with reversing camera 5. Am I right in saying there is a 7yr/100k (which ever come sooner) warranty on the 220d engines only? What is it like on the petrol variants? Does it need to be a Lexus service history? IMO, the petrol engines are bullet proof .. not heard of many issues, i keep exetending the warranty though to be on the safe side . 6. When viewing 220d's I should check to see if the heaters work. Check for that emulsified white gloop in the water reservoir. Anything other telltale signs of a blown head gasket? last not but least, from the list of cars you selected, i will go for the lexus or the Mazda 6 (163 PS or 185 PS)
  5. Good heavens. That really does look impressive - almost mirror like. :o I've clearly got a lot to learn. :D Well .. it has to be....no wonder the SV Crystal Rock Wax costs £795.00 a pot ... But IMO the SV BOS (£195) is good for Lexus and SwissVax do a wax specially for Lexus vehicles called SV Finesse and costs about £90... havent tried it so far... will do this year and post some pics up ...
  6. Have a look at this link, done by a Pro in portugal... hope it helps .. Lexus IS250 Detailed
  7. Depending on level of swirls, there are various stages of cleaning and levels of polishing, finishing and waxing or sealing that needs to be done. You might have to do all the steps in my previous post. I am sorry there is no one word answer for the question. may be this link from Dave @ Detailing world .. is probably the best link for polishing the car ... My link Just out of interest.. whats the colour of the car ?????
  8. Take it to Lexus ... .... 9 out of 10 times they would get it done with their preffered vendor of windscreens.. I think its national windscreens... and I must say I did not have a good exprience with them in Jan this year ... they came to replace the front windscreen on my IS 250 and after its done i could hear the engine directly inside the cabin and it started to leak near the rear view mirror ... and couple of days later they replaced it again and this time its wind noise at speeds over 40 MPH and then a week later they fitted a new one again ... looked good for a month until i took on a motorway and wind noise at 70MPH ... I would watch them closely whilst they are working like you said ..
  9. I would personally not put fairy liquid on the car even if its just on the windscreen... I would recommend to get a PH neutral shampoo .. not the ones sold in halfords ...... there are a number of brands available online and are reasonably priced.....thats always the safest for any paint work ... give up on sponges and go for a noodle wash mitt and try the two bucket method.. one bucket with the shampoo concentrate and clean water and the second bucket with just clean water to rinse the wash mitt every time before you soak the wash mitt in the shampoo bucket... this way grime just stay in one bucket and will never go back on to the car.... and as for your comment on shabby alloys .. i would recommend a smartvax rimvax or PB's alloy wheel sealant... apply it on the alloys and you will see that the brake dust never sticks to the alloys like before ... and a tyre gloss if you want the wet and brand new look ... and a QD for once a month topup ... the best and easiest way to test if there are any swrils on the car is in night at a petrol station which has the bright halogen lights ... This is what normally i do and my product choices for the customers cars or on my IS250 as an yearly treatment ... in my case I do this just after MOT 1. Wash the car with pressure washer 2. Apply Snow foam with I4D snow foam or autobrite... trust me this removes a lot of the grim out 3. Clean the wheels with wheel cleaner - I use Valet pro Bilberry wheel cleaner 4. Shampoo with wash mitt and britemax clean max shampoo (two bucket method) ... never sponge .. thats just a personal thing.. but i have friends who are full time professional valeters using sponges... 5. Dry the car with MF cloth 6. Clay the paint work with Dodojuice born slippy lubricant, this picks up safely all the grime that gets into the paintwork and prepares the paint for the next stage 7. inspect the paint work for imperfections, scratches, swirls with bright LED 8. tape the car up for bits that dont need polish .. logos/ plastics etc 8. depending on the damage use the relevant polishes and polishing pads to correct the paint - 3M and Menzerna range are my choices 9. give it another wash with clean water 10. treat the plastics and all the black bits with AF revive or C4 11.chrome and metal bits with Britemax metal twins 12. work on the interior (thats a whole process in itself) 13.dress up the engine bay with Aerospace 303 protectant 14 wax the paint with AG HD wax or Swissvax BOS for a nicer cars 15.wax the wheels with smartvax rimwax apply some I4D tyre gloss to the tyres 16.Clean the glass and windscreen with 3M glass cleaner this all takes a minimum 6-8 hours and that should make the carlook glossy and great, if anything betterlooking than brand new... i had customers when they had their cars detailed with 30 miles on the clock And as for the weekly work on my IS250 ... I keep things simple .. 1. wash it with plenty of fresh water ... the self wash centre at tescos .... ( i am in a flat now and dont have access to a hose pipe) 2. Dry it with MF cloth 3. Apply Britemax QD every alternate weeks or once a month depending on usage of the car and top up alloy wheel wax once every three months.. i got to be honest.. i never found a alloy wheel wax that lasts longer than that .. and the wax once on the paint work every spring and autumn Hope this helps .. or PM me your number .. I can call and explain if you have any specific doubts .. i love talking about detailing cars ...
  10. + 1 I would not want the dealer or any one else clean wash and clean the car... I am a part time detailer myself...and as all Lexus models have soft paint as opposed to other german rivals which comes with hard paint..... its very easy that the car's paint might end up with swirls with one bad wash
  11. I got the alloys of the IS250 refurbished recently and repainted them in anthracite ... well more of smoked chrome actually (the same colour that's on the new LR discovery, will post the pictures ... I find them much better than the flaky OEM silver ones the centre caps still have old colour
  12. That's Perfect... thanks mate Just asked the seller a question, to confirm if the grill is pre 08 model( i think the pre 08 and post 08 ones are bit different and dont fit each other), it looks pre 08... but just wanted to be sure before i place a bid ... thanks once again No problem mate. here is another brand new one and has part numbers listed: My link placed a bid :) .. 6 long days to wait before the bid ends ...thanks once again ...
  13. Easy to change... Manual explains everything... I paid £3 for a battery at halfords about 18 months back ... no problems till now .. congratulations for the new one and good luck...
  14. That's Perfect... thanks mate Just asked the seller a question, to confirm if the grill is pre 08 model( i think the pre 08 and post 08 ones are bit different and dont fit each other), it looks pre 08... but just wanted to be sure before i place a bid ... thanks once again
  15. Have you asked for a price at your local Lexus dealership?? You may be surprised. Yes .. Lexus Guildford quoted me £103 + VAT + Labour ... So I am assuming round about £180-£200 ..... ... still trying at the local breakers yard if I can find it for cheaper ...
  16. hi all ... any ideas where can i find a plastic chrome grill surround on IS250 (2006 model) tried ebay, google and a few breaker yards ... but no luck ... thanks in advance
  17. I am planning to get the alloys (standard 10 spoke 17 inches on the SE-L spec) refurbished as the front two are badly curbed ... at the same time i am thinking of a repainting them after looking at a ISF recently... imo slightly darker alloys looks good on IS compared to the flaky silver ones (yes they are flaking again)..... my choices are .. smoked chrome or anthracite coal... the car colour is Sargasso Green ... did any one here got the alloys repainted ... i would be glad if anyone can post few pics of before and afters.. and any recommended alloy refurb specialists in Surrey?
  18. My car is with Lexus Guildford today, again for the same problem.. the sound doesnt fade towards the rear speakers ... so may be the amp or the sub is blown ... luckily the ML audio is covered under the extended warraty ... so hoping no big bills ... fingers crossed ... i will let you know how much it would have costed at the dealer later when i pick the car up today...
  19. Hi Guys, I recently bumped the lexus into a pickup truck in slow moving traffic and cracked the front grill surround (chrome bit) and small scratch on the bumper. please could you let me know if anyone has a unwanted chrome surround for the front grill on a IS250 (55 Reg). Also does anyone know where can I find touch paint for the colour Sargasso Green ? (halfords dont have it ) Cheers
  20. Apologies if you get disappointed... but that sounds like a lot to me £431 + shipping + fitting ... I got all four of them fitted for £410 at the bracknell tyres
  21. I am planning to take the IS into mainland EU in the coming long weekend... I understand that the car needs the headlight adaptars so that it doesnt dazzale the oncoming traffic... but i cant find any specific adaptors that go with the IS.... anyone have any thoughts on what needs to be done or had previous experience in taking the car in EU... Also is it necessary to have the big GB sticker even when the car has EU symbol and GB lettering on the registration. thanks in advance
  22. How did the fitting go ??? hope no issues..... i got my car's windscreen replaced last month with National windscreens and they did not do a good job...first time i could hear the engine revving directly into the cabin and it leaked near the rear view mirror ... they had to replace it again and now i hear wind noise on the motorway .... only because did not do a motorway run until yesterday after fitting the new windscreen (nearly 45 days)... i cant ask them to check it again and again ... so would ask you to take the car to a car wash with a pressure hose and a motorway blast and check everything is ok ...
  23. I have got Toyo Proxes T1R's. The grip in the wet and snow was really good. Noise levels were loo too compared to the Dunlops the car had previously. However, the T1Rs are relatively softer compound compared to other tyres, so the wear is higher compared to Dunlops or Bridgestones ....may be its due to the extra weight in the boot (still got 100kilos of sand and snow showel in the boot).. looking at the way they are going they may have only 80-90% life compared to the Dunlops or Bridgestones... but i might be wrong... heard good things about vredestein ultrac sessanta as well.. i will try them next time ...
  24. Nearly 6000$ Link: RGM Super Charged IS250 These Guys were able to take the IS250 to nearly 375 BHP. Althought their numbers seem bit a wrong ... they reckon the standard IS250 takes 10.6 seconds for to do 0-60 and 7.46 for the supercharged...
