  1. I got my 220d last June 2010. I saw smoke from my car in winter 2010 and also a lot of posts in these forums on smoking Lexi. however, these posts and my cars smoke disappeared in summer. could it just have been low temperature causing the smoke.
  2. The way I see it, having AC light on in the button doesn't really mean the AC is cooling the car. It means that if the car gets too warm, the AC will help bring it back into your desired temperature. Otherwise the climate control will not works as the heater will be able to warm the car but if it heats it too much it cant cool it. I have the AC button on all the time, no mist ever and no feeling frozen inside the car as well. I think its just designed to be ON all the time.
  3. do also make sure that you turn on AC at all times. it does actually helps remove the mist from screen and moisture from car
  4. I have even better idea and very cheap. I got my self two slightly used 245/45/17 goodyear winter tyres for £100 fitted (FROM EBAY). if i get same models for the fronts for about £80, i'll be sorted for this winter for £180, instead of £800 if bought new. tread is about 5-6mm. Seller told me all are import from another European country where any tyre under 6mm tread is illegal so all these tyres make their way to UK. My rear tyres were needing a change any way as they were very , very, close to legal limit
  5. 1. I think best thing is to get the EGR valve cleaned every time you get the car serviced. Back alley mechanic would charge £40-50 for the work on top of normal servicing. 2. I have discovered that Fuel filter changing is difficult to do so it wont get done if you dont ask for it specifically. So do that when you get it serviced next as it is important. 3. I am no expert but I think that there is another filter at the end of the exhaust pipe (where catalytic converter goes in petrols). It is called diesel particulate filter i think. This filter collects unburned carbon and passes it on to 5th injector which will pass it to engine to burn it away from time to time. (other forum members please collect me if i am wrong) 4. have same question as you for the 19inch wheels 5. Best bet will be to see if any ones breaking a car on ebay and ask them for the plastic insert.
  6. mine went away by itself. may have been a lousy fuel or something like that. i recently (and much after the stutter problem had gone away) got the egr valve cleaned and fuel filter changed + regular service. change of fuel filter was 2 weeks after all other work had been carried out and the difference between old and new fuel filter on the drive of the car is amazing. its much smoother after new fuel filter
  7. last year mine got stuck 5 times on the same road. thanks to some very nice people in the the cars behind me who always got down and pushed the beast :) for remaining of the snowy days I used the micra. I do think the spray ON traction spray from ebay helped traction a bit, i used it when the snow had started to melt and turn into ice. do invest in a shovel and some rock salt if you live at the end of the lane where no other cars have compacted snow for you.
  8. Just a reminder to all If you bought the car in this summer, you will be surprised how bad it is in snow/ice due to rear wheel drive and high torque plus the traction control. Sometimes it just doesn't move. Its that time of year that the prices of winter tyres start to hike. So Get some winter tyres ASAP or over the wheel socks if you prefer them and / or a bottle of spray on traction get a snow shovel and a few bags of grit before they run out of diy stores just be prepared in advance. don't get caught out this winter
  9. dont know if it helps or not but my son locked our only key in my wife's nissan micra nissan refused to do any thing about it until i towed the car to them. so i contacted a "locksmith". they arranges a guy to come over, Minimum charge was £123 for one hours work and then double that for two hour etc Well i wasnt home, but wife tells me that it took him 5 mins to break into the car (how safe) thier contact iskeytek locksmiths, national head office, 6 acorn business park, ling road poole bh124nz 01202245000 www.keytek.co.uk i am based in leeds so that may have been a regional rep
  10. All OK except SE has both Heated and ventilated/airconditioned seats. Having bought an SE, I do now feel I should have gone for the SE-L just because of the parking sensors. Parking this car with its limited rear view can be a bit of a problem without sensors.
  11. I wouldn't have moved if I had choice. Love it here in Fife. Anyways, is there a good indie garage in /around Leeds for our Lexi?
  12. after all the bad reviews the lexi get, its good to see some positive news now and then
  13. moving from Fife (post code KY16) to Leeds (LS6) insurnace of IS220d goes from £400 to £800 a year insurance of my wifes nissan micra goes from £450 to £1000 whats wrong leeds??? at this rate I may sell the lex and buy an electric scooter :)
  14. Thanks I didnt reset the ECU, but changed my driving style. What a difference. In town I was getting 32MPG. Now get 38. On Mpotor way I was getting 37MPG now getting 45. I'll try resetting the ECU and see if that makes any difference as well. But thanks again, it was very helpful
  15. more revs help, but the stutter turns into a quick vibration. but it's still there. i think its time to get it checked out by garage. thanks
  16. Hi all Car 220d seems to have delveoped a stutter when pulling away in first gear. It happens for a small moment but the whole car shakes and is quite anoyying in town driving as have to stop so many times. Sopke to friends and every one has different suggestion. Some say it is a wheel alighment problem, others say it hints to blocked fuel filter and others suggest blocked injectors. I personally feel it might have to do something with the clutch or gear box. Has some one experianced this problem before, and any suggestions for me please? Thanks
  17. there was a new software for the ecu (engine control unit computer). I think it improves engine performance in the lower revs. some lexus garage update the software for free when you get service from them. otherwise you need to pay for it to be updated.
  18. In my limited understanding of this, I think the way it works is that there is an internal temperature sensor . If the internal temp is more than what you have set on heating then cool air would blow (air con if switched on) otehrwise, warm air will blow. Now the internal temperature can vary a lot independant of how it feels. It may feel quite cool to you but there may be a different temperature pocket sat around the temperature sensor. Again that is how i think it works, I dont really know this for a fact
  19. a quick look in autotrader private ads shows that there are cars like your spec advertised privately at £14-15k. Problem is that prices differe region to region as well (i,.e Scotland vs England) etc. Some dealers are selling these at £15k as well.i.e. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201112382500398/usedcars?atcide=emgm3&logcode=emf
  20. Hi I am declaring this survey closed now. I am linking excel file of final results for any ones reference. http://www.axiz.co.uk/lexus/LEXUS.xls
  21. if you can buy a new service book, you can ask the lexus delaership for service stamps if you know what dealership it was serviced at. mine was missing a stamp, sent it to lexus delearship and they sent back with stamp and milage.
  22. I guess it is one of those questions for which you will get help if either 1. some one had this porblem as well and was possible to fix it 2. some one is a mechanic and remembers how he/she fixed it otherwise will be difficult to help you in here
