  1. The problem is that when you have unexpected trips, which is quite often for me, its very difficult. Imagine having 50 miles left and then you realise you have 100 miles to go! I doubt Toyota, being the biggest carmaker in the world will have just chosen hydrogen out of thin air
  2. That's not strictly true. The additives in the super unleaded fuels are much better for hybrid cars, especially ones with direct injection. The additives clean the carbon deposits completely if used for around 5-7k miles which builds up on short trips
  3. Surely insurance companies have to give you a main dealer "market value" than a trade value though?
  4. All I can say is the American EPA rating for my Leaf is 75 miles, and I get 80-85 miles in normal use.For a 85kWh Tesla, the EPA rating is 270 miles. Except Tesla recommend 80% charge and the car logs how much charge you've been going to and they won't honour the warranty if you have only 200 miles range on 100% after 3 years. At 80% you could get 240 but you wouldn't because the instant torque is too addictive. With conventional cars they won't drop under a certain mpg, for example if I welly the RX around I'll be getting 25 mpg and it won't get lower so I can still do 350 miles on a tank and fill up in 2 mins. If I welly the Tesla, like I did, I get 150-200 miles on 80%
  5. The price they were quoted include the battery rental, excluding the battery the car is only £75/months!! You need to check your facts!!The American EPA range rating for EVs are really accurate. My Leaf is has an EPA rating of 75 miles which is actually an underestimate - I get 80-85 miles. A 70kWh Model S has a EPA rating of 240 miles, a 85kWh 85D 270 miles. If you really hyper mile one, it'll do 500 miles+ on a charge. http://gas2.org/2015/09/17/550-miles-single-charge-tesla-model-s-85d/ The 85kwh one has nowhere near 300 mile range. Tesla firstly recommends 80% charging so thats 240 miles. If you drive it normally it gets about 200!
  6. Firstly, the Lexus RX is no Zafira - its one of the most refined SUV's on the market today and pampers you unlike Zafira's and the Prius. That's essentially what you pay for. Of course, if you just want to get from A to B as cheaply as possible, its best to get something cheap in the first place but if you want to get from A to B in style, the RX fits the bill. If you've driven a Prius, you'll know how crap that car actually is..... lol With GAP protection, they HAVE to pay unless you've deliberately given them wrong information. It doesn't matter whether its your fault or someone else, they have to pay regardless. No point getting the ding and scratches insurance though, the people who come out to do it can't seem to get it right, especially on Lexus 3 stage paint.
  7. Good points mentioned in the article especially the range anxiety - even Tesla overestimate their figures! Can't do more than 200 miles in one.
  8. Oh god you didn't buy a Genesis did you? id be rejecting it and buying another car - one reason - depreciation is going to absolutely kill you!
  9. TBF the Lexus carpet mats are very good. Ive had them in all year round for 3 years, no issues at all. But if you really do want some quality rubber mats: http://www.carmats2u.co.uk/lexus-gs300h-2014-onwards-3046-p.asp http://www.npautoparts.co.uk/car-accessories-c1/tailored-car-mats-c132/lexus-gs-300h-2014-2015-floor-mats-p90352 both 5mm heavy duty rubber so pretty good.
  10. I can't see why you would advise not using parking brake in N which means you are suggesting using footbrake rather than parking brake? I can't understand why you would advocate this policy. Parking brake is linked to the Parking Prawl. The parking prawl is usually quite weak and not designed for on and off situations - its designed to hold the car for a long period of time, not on and off, on and off at traffic lights. The trick to keeping your parking brake free from rust etc etc is to use it more often, but not excessively so. if you were in gridlock traffic, then you would probably shift to P and then put the parking brake on but not at red lights.
  11. Im not too sure what RON BP Ultimate is - I think its 95 but it still has the additives in it. May try Tesco Momentum 99 or Shell V Power to see if it cleans it up a bit. Never had this on my 8 year old RX300 so don't know why its happening on the 450h. Maybe its because the engine doesn't get used as much.
  12. Wow really? I've been using BP regular which I would have thought is more than adequate. I'll give the additive and BP ultimate a try to see what happens
  13. Or eventually, instead of giving a grant they could add a £5k "tax" on electric cars only lol
  14. You basically turn on a heater in the lower portion of the windscreen which melts the ice if your wipers are stuck. Heats the wipers up too so really good for winter
  15. After seeing this on another forum, just wanted to know anything interesting that IS owners have discovered. It can be good or bad. Ill start off - Good - The boot is somewhat freezing all the time - great for me as I can leave my sandwiches there when going to work. Bad - After having the windshield wiper de-icer in the RX I was shocked to discover the IS doesn't have this!! :(
  16. Just been having an issue with the 450h sometimes. Its not exactly reproducible but - the car basically shudders at a standstill when its warming up. I can feel the vibration in the driver's seat and its an odd feeling. It only seems to happen sometimes. The only way I can describe it is like a light shivering which is felt through the car. Any ideas?
  17. Wow you're getting the same MPG as me in my RX - although mine never slips under 30mpg. It pretty much stays the same unless I go on the motorway where it increases to about 35-38mpg. My wife's IS on the other hand got 55mpg on the motorway when brought back from Chester. In town its doing about 45mpg but still, pretty good.
  18. But you have to understand the Toyota isn't going to come out with anything until its been properly tested by THEM! They took a long time to get onto the Turbo bandwagon (something which they said they would NEVER do) and therefore I'd expect them to take equally long to get onto the electric bandwagon. Hydrogen may well be the future, when the first Hydrogen car that Toyota make can do 300 miles, it sure as hell is going to get much better! Its arguable that Hydrogen is also much cleaner than using electric which is where government taxation may come in down the line.
  19. quick google search brought up these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lexus-Quality-German-Premium-Silver/dp/B00G39YC5G http://www.amazon.co.uk/XtremeAuto%C2%AE-Basecoat-Aerosol-Lacquer-SILVER/dp/B00U1FAM3E http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XTREME-TOUCH-UP-PAINT-LEXUS-SILVER-1F2-SPRAY-AEROSOL-MIXED-/301672060337?var=&hash=item463d0e55b1 I wouldn't use the Toyota colour - you'll be able to spot it a mile off.
  20. Something as simple as a spark plug could cause the cylinder to misfire so check those to see if their dirty or damaged. Check the plug wires and distributor caps too. You'll need to diagnose which cylinder is misfiring first. Should be able to scan for this. Check fuel injectors, they may be clogged or dirty, there could be an air leak somewhere and you could have weak fuel pump. Basically it could be one in a long list of things - best to go to a good mechanic.
  21. The only problem I can see with EVs is that once everyone gets on the bandwagon the government will start taxing it and charging for using city charge points etc
  22. It looks good doesn't it, and Porsche is hinting at some interesting tech, 800volt recharging in 15 minutes, a slightly different motor design. Apparently production aimed for 2018. All of a sudden deciding which £50K+ EV to buy in 2017/18 has become much more difficult :) EV battery technology is already good enough for 90% of divers, its just the cost at moment. Nissan can produce a 250 mile range Leaf now, but they wouldn't, because they know no one is going to pay £50K+ for a Nissan, even the GTR is hard sell for many. Interms of value for money, the Tesla actually offers the best £ per kWh!! These costs are on the way down though, so it's good news for us consumers - The Nissan Leaf 30kwh, Spark EV, and Tesla S (90) the three 'best value' EVs have all come out in the last 6 months :) Unfortunately as much as I appreciate what a good job Toyota/Lexus have done with the IS300H, their obsession with chasing hydrogen fuel cell technology means their current range of hybrids are going to be made to look very out-dated once Audi/Porsche/Mercedes start pumping out battery EVs to compete with Tesla at the premium end of the market. Toyota has openly admitted fuel cell technology wouldn't be ready for mass production till 2020 at the earliest, the Mirai at the moment is essentially a hand built car, who knows how far battery technology will have advanced by than :( Now I would buy that - 15 mins charge, perfect! Thats what the Porsche Panamera SHOULD have looked like
  23. In an Automatic NON HYBRID - at the traffic light, yes it is better to put it in Neutral. This actually helps to reduce brake wear as well and reduces component wear. Dont put on the parking brake though.
  24. Say that's it's their fault for putting a faulty tyre on the car. If they say no its not, say "OK no worries, I'll just contact Lexus UK then as I'm not getting anywhere with you". That should sort them out.
  25. Looking good! Have fun cleaning the wheels on those! Had a demo for a day and the amount of brake dust it generates is crazy!
