I can't see why you would advise not using parking brake in N which means you are suggesting using footbrake rather than parking brake? I can't understand why you would advocate this policy. Parking brake is linked to the Parking Prawl. The parking prawl is usually quite weak and not designed for on and off situations - its designed to hold the car for a long period of time, not on and off, on and off at traffic lights. The trick to keeping your parking brake free from rust etc etc is to use it more often, but not excessively so. if you were in gridlock traffic, then you would probably shift to P and then put the parking brake on but not at red lights.

Im not too sure what RON BP Ultimate is - I think its 95 but it still has the additives in it. May try Tesco Momentum 99 or Shell V Power to see if it cleans it up a bit. Never had this on my 8 year old RX300 so don't know why its happening on the 450h. Maybe its because the engine doesn't get used as much.

Wow really? I've been using BP regular which I would have thought is more than adequate. I'll give the additive and BP ultimate a try to see what happens

You basically turn on a heater in the lower portion of the windscreen which melts the ice if your wipers are stuck. Heats the wipers up too so really good for winter

After seeing this on another forum, just wanted to know anything interesting that IS owners have discovered. It can be good or bad. Ill start off - Good - The boot is somewhat freezing all the time - great for me as I can leave my sandwiches there when going to work. Bad - After having the windshield wiper de-icer in the RX I was shocked to discover the IS doesn't have this!! :(

Just been having an issue with the 450h sometimes. Its not exactly reproducible but - the car basically shudders at a standstill when its warming up. I can feel the vibration in the driver's seat and its an odd feeling. It only seems to happen sometimes. The only way I can describe it is like a light shivering which is felt through the car. Any ideas?

Wow you're getting the same MPG as me in my RX - although mine never slips under 30mpg. It pretty much stays the same unless I go on the motorway where it increases to about 35-38mpg. My wife's IS on the other hand got 55mpg on the motorway when brought back from Chester. In town its doing about 45mpg but still, pretty good.

But you have to understand the Toyota isn't going to come out with anything until its been properly tested by THEM! They took a long time to get onto the Turbo bandwagon (something which they said they would NEVER do) and therefore I'd expect them to take equally long to get onto the electric bandwagon. Hydrogen may well be the future, when the first Hydrogen car that Toyota make can do 300 miles, it sure as hell is going to get much better! Its arguable that Hydrogen is also much cleaner than using electric which is where government taxation may come in down the line.

Something as simple as a spark plug could cause the cylinder to misfire so check those to see if their dirty or damaged. Check the plug wires and distributor caps too. You'll need to diagnose which cylinder is misfiring first. Should be able to scan for this. Check fuel injectors, they may be clogged or dirty, there could be an air leak somewhere and you could have weak fuel pump. Basically it could be one in a long list of things - best to go to a good mechanic.

It looks good doesn't it, and Porsche is hinting at some interesting tech, 800volt recharging in 15 minutes, a slightly different motor design. Apparently production aimed for 2018. All of a sudden deciding which £50K+ EV to buy in 2017/18 has become much more difficult :) EV battery technology is already good enough for 90% of divers, its just the cost at moment. Nissan can produce a 250 mile range Leaf now, but they wouldn't, because they know no one is going to pay £50K+ for a Nissan, even the GTR is hard sell for many. Interms of value for money, the Tesla actually offers the best £ per kWh!! These costs are on the way down though, so it's good news for us consumers - The Nissan Leaf 30kwh, Spark EV, and Tesla S (90) the three 'best value' EVs have all come out in the last 6 months :) Unfortunately as much as I appreciate what a good job Toyota/Lexus have done with the IS300H, their obsession with chasing hydrogen fuel cell technology means their current range of hybrids are going to be made to look very out-dated once Audi/Porsche/Mercedes start pumping out battery EVs to compete with Tesla at the premium end of the market. Toyota has openly admitted fuel cell technology wouldn't be ready for mass production till 2020 at the earliest, the Mirai at the moment is essentially a hand built car, who knows how far battery technology will have advanced by than :( Now I would buy that - 15 mins charge, perfect! Thats what the Porsche Panamera SHOULD have looked like

In an Automatic NON HYBRID - at the traffic light, yes it is better to put it in Neutral. This actually helps to reduce brake wear as well and reduces component wear. Dont put on the parking brake though.

Say that's it's their fault for putting a faulty tyre on the car. If they say no its not, say "OK no worries, I'll just contact Lexus UK then as I'm not getting anywhere with you". That should sort them out.

Wow Mica Blue!? Sure you're up for that? I've had a Black RX and let me tell you it's a PITA shows scratches and it's super soft paint too. I don't really fancy the 360 degree camera so no issue there. I like the F Sport styling including the wheels and oddly enough I prefer the floating roof in lighter colours! I might throw a curveball in and get red with red :/ Only issue I can see is that my wife's IS300H F Sport is white with red leather and it may end up looking like a fleet lol

Makes decent power though, probably faster than an NX300h looking at Lexus Europe figures! :P That torque figure is pretty interesting 350NM FTW. My previous RX300 only had like 280NM or something and that felt quite nippy tbf. The reason for the screen on the dash is that you can have the dash lower down and it gives a greater sense of space. With the current RX the dash is mahoosive to say the least! Sooo, for the next year, I have to get myself a 2016 RX F-Sport (im going ex-demo this time, can't deal with losing £30k in 3 years ownership), only problem will be the spec, I want White/Red + ML + Panoramic sunroof + HUD which is probably going to be quite difficult to find unless I convince my dealer to order their demo in that particular spec! I will also have to buy a Qi adapter as my HTC one M7 (emotional attachment to this phone) is not Qi compatible lol Im not even going to drive it CBA - ill just buy it over the internet if I can find a good one in the right spec.

Hey buddy, you're in the IS200/IS300 section here so the post will have to be moved. Dont worry, a MOD will sort this out for you. Now onto your question - the best way to upgrade to another car is pay it all outright. It always works out cheaper as there is no interest involved. If the car is BRAND NEW, you can usually take up their £1000 deposit contribution offer if there is one and then pay it all off. You may have to pay interest for 3 months but that'll be negligible compared to the £1000 you're getting off. Having said that, financially speaking, a BRAND NEW car is not a good idea. Take this into account - my wife's IS300h F-Sport with premium nav and rose red leather cost somebody £37k. 2 years later and 10k miles later, I bought it for £23950 and Im sure the dealer must have only paid £20-21k for it. Therefore, from a purely financial viewpoint, it was good that you bought a 6 month old car as the majority of the depreciation is in the first year UNLESS that car is highly desirable like an F-Type Jag for example. Trade in value is always £2-5k lower than private selling so you lose out but it ultimately depends on whether you want to do that. To upgrade to a newer version, ideally you want to wait for a 6-12month old car HOWEVER, if the car is highly desirable, you may be better off just buying new if there is barely any difference in price between a 6 month car and a brand new one. Also, around 3 years with the car is a good bet. So, to recap what Ive said ill use the following example - 15 plate car Brand new = £38k. After 6 months = £29-31k. Buy it at and then use the car for 3 years and therefore, trade in, sell or whatever in 2018. That way you don't take a big hit when buying new and then whilst the car is in use, you won't get hit with silly depreciation. HOWEVER, generally speaking, its best to buy outright, sell privately and keep the car for longer than 1-2 years.
