  1. I'm paying 69.9 ppl at Morrisons in either Falkirk or Livingston. My local Shell garage, 2 minutes away from me, are charging 81.9 ppl. They don't see any business from me. Tc
  2. It is too low for current legislation and any new installation has to comply with a minimum height specified in the new regs. It's an MOT failure if it doesn't comply. Pre legislation installations are ok. I have a wheel well 90 litre tank whch suits me better. Had a cylinder tank on my Scorpios but would have preferred the wheel weel tank on them as well. Tc
  3. Can't help on the towing figure I'm afraid but would like to ask where you got the towbar. I need one for my 430 so I can haul the bikes around the country but so far have only found Lexus as a supplier - megabucks!! Tc
  4. I recon that the fuel tax should cover basic insurance and road tax. Gets round the issue of uninsured drivers on the road and also means that the folk using the roads and poluting the most pay the most. Keep the registration and MOT process and hammer the folk who run around in cars with no MOT. I'm all in favour of getting a new registration whenever a change of owner takes place as well. That way we know who has the car cos you can't drive it if you don't register it. Tc
  5. I think that the guys on here who are suggesting that the pressure is too low could be right. Dependant on the vaporiser they fitted, it might not be able to supply enough gas to power the engine properly. Ask if there is a low pressure sensor fitted (there should be one fitted so that the system cuts back to petrol when you run out of gas) and if there is try this - as you come onto the slip road for the motorway slam the throttle to the floor and allow the car to accelerate at maximum until you are above 70. This uses maximum fuel and if the LPG system does not switch the car back to petrol while doing it, then you can eliminate pressure as a potential cause. With my Cosworth Scorpios I had to have dual vaporisers fitted to be sure that the pressure could be maintained. I only have a single one on my LS430 but I haven't had any issues unless I am almost out of gas and then I get the symptoms I have just described. HTH Tc
  6. Are you thinking about fitting it yourself? If not I would recommend Profess Autogas in Cardiff. They did my LS430 when I bought her and I have nothing but praise for them. Spot on job and completed in a day. HTH Tc
  7. I have to say thank you to all the contributers here. I don't think I have laughed as much in a long time - almost cried at one stage. My sides are now hurting and my thighs are red with slapping them. Absolute genius!! Tc
  8. I think you'll find that in the case of most older vehicles, and in particular heavy beasts like ours, it's not so much what your car is worth but more the amount of damage you can inflct on vehicles of a lesser quality than ours. If you want to see the truth of this, check out how much TPF&T costs compared to Fully Comprehensive. Tc
  9. I would suggest that the cats are glowing red hot because you are spewing unburt fuel into them and it's burning there and as a result you cats are now destroyed. The loss of power could be related to this in that the internals have probably worked loose and are blocking the exhaust. Not a good place to be mate!! HTH Tc
  10. Turbochargers need an intercooler, superchargers are relatively simple compared to the turbo and as they are not driven off the exhaust don't require one. Bit pricey for a used system but maybe I'm out of touch. Not convinced I'd want to put it on my car. HTH Tc
  11. I can only say that Profess Autogas in Cardiff were fantastic. I took the car in at 8am and got it back at 5:30 the same day. The car has been flawless in its running and performance. £1300 to have the job done and I don't regret a penny of it. There will always be arguments as to how much you save etc but I know that each time I do the calculation on a penny for penny basis I am getting the equivalent of 35 - 40 to the gallon. That has got to be good for the size, weight and engine in the car. I would recommend these guys to anyone considering a conversion to LPG. HTH Tc
  12. Hi Mike, I've followed your posts with interest. I'm on my third LPG powered car spanning over 10 years, 2 Ford Scorpio Cosworths and my LS430. The Scorpios I converted myself but when it came to the LS I decided that Profess Autogas in Cardiff were the boys to do it. Never had any issues with the Scorpios and I'm delighted to say that after a year I've never had any issues with the LS either. I get the money equivalent of 35 - 40 to the gallon and never really try to calculate the town and motorway mpg. I would recommend a chat with these guys and potentially a trip down to see them. I'm sure they will be happy to help you. HTH Tc
  13. Hi Sir John, Love the explanation but it does require a bit of clarification. The Scots who left and traveled South, and indeed all over the world, didn't do it to look for work. They were actually forced off the land by a chap called "Butcher Cumberland" and the government who sat in Westminster. They would have been quite happy to stay there. Rant over and apologies for adding stuff not related to the thread. Tc (a proud Scot)
  14. Hi Guys, Many thanks for the advice. I'm not going to be towing anything like the limit. Just need it to tow the bike trailer (getting too old to be running up and down motorways for hours on end) I guess it's a visit to Lexus at the weekend. Thanks once again. Tc
  15. Hi Guys, I've searched all over but can't find anyone who can supply a towbar for my 2002 LS430. Has anyone on here managed to fit one and if so can you share the details please. Tc
  16. Hi guys just to say that I have put some BRAND NEW parking sensors for the LS430 on sale here ... http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=73192 Tc
  17. Generally the dipstick in mine is sat behind the steering wheel
  18. Hi Mike, As said before in here, there should be no noise from the gas installation at all. Gas running is silent except for when the system initially cuts over from petrol to gas and then you might hear the click of the solenoids as they release the gas flow to the evaporator. You should not be smelling gas on your clothes a day after filling up either. Having fitted 2 of my cars with an LPG conversion in the past 8 years, I have to agree with the folks on here who said take it back to the installer and have it checked out. You are indeed driving around in a timebomb if you have a leak. LPG/air mixtures are much more explosive that petrol/air and a smell of gas should NEVER be ignored. Tc
  19. I think the clue to this is on page 2 of the post where you say that the problem occurred after the coolant was changed and that it it a lovely pink colour. I'm betting that it used to be a blueish colour and that the garage that did the coolant change didn't flush the engine as they should have. When you then top up with the nice new pink coolant you find that the new and old are not compatible and that a sludgy compound is formed which then goes on to block the waterways. I suspect that your problem is not in the matrix but in the pipes and waterways feeding it. I believe that there is a flushing agent which will get rid of this for you but I can't remember the name of it. HTH Tc
  20. It could be the cat causing the knock. If the core is lightly loose then it will rattle like pinking under acceleration. Had that on my Scorpio and confused me for ages before I worked it out. Tc
  21. Pete, Thanks very much for the info and you are absolutely correct, that's exactly how it works. Genius!!! I love this car!!! Tc
  22. I've had a fairly good root around the site looking for any information about this but so far haven't found anything so please forgive me if I missed it. My problem is that I can lock the my LS430 using the buttons on the door handles but so far I am unable to unlock it using them. I've looked on here as I say and also had a search through the handbook but nothing has leapt out at me from either source. The system works fine with the key remote and it locks and unlock as you would expect using that. I know that I'm being picky but continually taking the keys out of my pocket just to unlock the car is a pain. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks in advance, Tc
  23. Hi Steve, Firstly let me say how unlucky you are to have that happen at this time of year and secondly that in my opinion you are taking a major risk running the car with the driveshaft in that state. There is a chance that the CV joint could disintegrate completely and the damage that the shaft whirling around can do is not something you want. If you can, leave her off the road until you get the replacement part or drive very, very carefully. HTH Tc
