  1. Lexus have finally fixed the integration so it shows playlist names and tracks but I think it's rubbish. Firstly you can't see the list of playlists so you can scroll through them. You have to select disk 1-6 then page up to the next set of disk 1-6 and so on. Thwn when you find the playlist you want you can't display the tracks when on the move - useless. Worse is when you turn ignition off and on again it displays the last playlist as LAST SELECTED and basically you are back to the beginning of the playlists. Basically if you have more than a few playlists it's a waste of time as it would take ages to select a playlist high in a big list. It's a poor effort from Lexus and they can't blame the screen or the iPod - I'm sure they can do better than this.
  2. Mine has just been in for this - just on the passenger side though. Rattle has not been fixed - just a grubby mark on the panel left by a careless mechanic. Great result - NOT.
  3. Cheers folks. I'm dropping this now. I think i'm just being a bit cranky this week as I've got a bad back. Thanks for your help everyone.
  4. I would like to run this scenario by you all.... Yesterday I took my car into Lexus to have my iPod integration fixed and a rattle on the passenger seat belt housing sorted. The day before I filled up at a local Tesco and as is normal I reset the Trip B counter. I took my car in and it had 17 miles on the Trip B counter and when I picked it up afterwards it had 25 miles on it. So Lexus has done 8 miles in it (presumably to drive around and check the rattle - fair enough no problems there). Now for the problem. I reset the computer on the morning I dropped it off at Lexus which is 7 miles from home. I remember the mpg was about 31mpg - it's nearly all motorway door to door. However when I picked the car up it was showing 19mpg (or thereabouts). Remember Lexus had only driven it for 8 miles. At the time it didn't register but today when I drove to work I noticed the tank average was 25.2 mpg. No way do I ever get that low a tank average so I did some calculations..... I have done 52 miles since the fill-up. I dropped it off at 17 miles and picked it up at 25 miles - so Lexus have driven 8 miles in it. My mpg had dropped from about 30mpg to 18mpg in that 8 miles. I worked that out by calculating petrol amounts as approx 14 mpg. I then worked out the mpg drop over the 52 miles on the trip meter. Conservatively I would get about 28.5 mpg over the 44 miles I did. For the fuel consumption to drop to 25.2 mpg over the 52 miles then they would have had to do 14 mpg over the 8 miles. The figures approximately match. Before I speak to them have I got something wrong here ? Is it feasible to get 14 mpg driving sensibly around the locality. It would have been in middle of day so no rush hour traffic etc. I would be mortified if I thought some cocky mechanic had caned my car around town and if I am right I will be getting in touch with head office. I'm not accusing them of anything but the figures do look worrying. Advice please folks...
  5. Yep. I think any owner of a new generation IS should be happy as they are great cars and are very handsome indeed. Far better than the ten a penny BMW 3 series which outnumber the Lexus by considerable amounts because What Car says they are better. The issue I have is with LexFin saying "Heavy urban traffic is where the 250 A is better. Anywhere else it isn't, IMHO." which is total rubbish. Ok it's his opinion but it's total tosh I'm afraid. My last car was a 5 cylinder 2.7 turbo diesel with similar 0-60 and far superior torque but my IS250 is miles quicker and refinement is another league.
  6. I use them all the time. Usually on country roads. Great fun.
  7. My old Merc C270 CDI was £650 a service ! Think yourselves lucky !
  8. Doh - sorry thought you meant the RX - misread this. I bet the GS450 is a right beast but.... It'd give ok mpg pootling around town but don't expect mid 30s mpg if you floored it for the 0-60 in 5 secs mullarky. You'd probably get about 10 mpg ! I bet it's blooming quick tho !
  9. I've just had a new module fitted so it correctly displays Playlists. It's better now but it's far from perfect. You can page through a load of named playlists but if when the ignition is switched off and then back on again it reverts back to "Disc 1" playlist. This means if I selected a playlist that is 35 from the beginning I have to page all the way through again - that's pants. Does anyone know an easy way to page through the playlists more quickly ?
  10. What an absolute pile of rubbish. The IS250 is streets ahead of the 220d. More lag in a V6 petrol than a 4 cylinder turbodiesel ? What are you on ? Did you drive it for 3 minutes and form that opinion ? Yes if you are used to driving a diesel then a petrol won't seem to go unless you throttle it a bit. You need to adapt your driving.
  11. IS250 any day. It's a gem. I was getting about 34mpg average in my Merc C270 CDI which was nice but noisy and unrefined around town. I'm now driving a 2.5 litre petrol which knocks spots off the C270 for performance, refinement, everything. I'm getting about 30-32mpg but insurance is cheaper, no MOTs, no servicing costs, great guaranteed residuals etc etc. Don't just look at mpg figures - work out all the costs and see what is cheaper. Also what's most important is would you be happy in a car that did about 5mpg more but was pretty much inferior in every way. Also these torque figures are meaningless. My Merc had 295lbs of torque - far more that my IS250. Yet my IS250 is far quicker in every respect. At start-up, overtaking, everything. Yes you have to give it more revs but it gets there smoother, quieter and more refined and suits a steptronic gearbox much better. No offence intended to IS220d owners but there is no comparison between a 4 cylinder diesel and a v6 petrol. Look at some of the other comments on here from people who have dropped their IS220s off with a dealer, got an IS250 as a courtesy car and was absolutely gutted.
  12. I had one. It was a great motor. I loved it. Mine was pearlescent white with a silver bumpers and skirting. It had bluey-grey leather - it was beautiful. Need help looking for a good one ? It's a Lexus mate.
  13. I may be able to help here. I have just dropped my IS250 SE-L Auto MM at Lexus Stockport to have my iPod module changed. They have given me an RX450h as a courtesy car. My thoughts on the 10 mile trip to work from the dealers (mostly motorway and a couple of miles of A roads). Feels very heavy. Don't like the interior half as much as mine. A few rattles when going over bumps. Steering seems to have a lot of play in it and is very light. Quick pick up at low speeds. It's very quick ! I got about 35mpg when driving it sensibly for first couple of miles. When I got to the A34 bypass national speed limit I floored it to 70mpg and it flew ! However that few seconds of flooring it took the mpg from 35 to 25 !!! When I later got stuck in some traffic the mpg went up to about 29 - very wierd. Road noise is worse than mine and mine is noisy on rough surfaces. Engine noise is nice but again I prefer my IS250. Not sure it's my cup of tea and I wouldn't swap it for my IS250 which is a total gem. Also the dealer said the IS250 should be hybrid in a couple of years !!! Ooh yes please.
  14. Sounds like a complete twunt to me What a fantastic idea. I want that on mine. Firstly it lets people (usually 320d drivers) know they are driving like an idiot. Secondly it shows off luxury Lexus features that cars like that can only dream of (or cost a small fortune to retro-fit). I think it's a damn fine idea.
  15. Has he got the ultraviolet lights fitted to the underside yet ?
  16. If you can get the panel out of the door and the switches out of the panel it would be worth finding a furniture restorer. Failing that you need to flatten the clear laquer unitl its flush with wet 2000 grade on a flat backing (I Evostick a small piece to a hard rubber, or for really small jobs a small disc stuck to the end of the rubber eraser on the end of a new pencil). The surface will go matt but will come back by polishing with the burnishing cream or Brasso. cheers Tango. I'll give that a try...
  17. How did you do that??? They come out easy enough...never tried to remove the switch gear from the panel though I was vacuuming the car with a hand held Dyson and thought I had the brush attachment extended. I vacuumed over the wood panel and the brush wasn't extended so the hard plastic attachment put a big scratch on the panel. I have used the Lexus touch up kit to put a line of clear lacquer on the scratch and the scratch has completely disappeared but there now is a raised bump where the lacquer is. If I could somehow buff the lacquer so it's fluch with the rest of the panel that would do the trick. Or I could try to remove the lacquer and put a smaller amount back on. Not sure what's best here...
  18. Oh hell I've just put a deep scratch in the passenger window controls wood panel :shutit: I've just tried to put the touch-up kit clear laquer on it to no avail - it looks a right mess. Help ! Brasso ? French polish ? How much is a new panel I wonder - anyone know ?
  19. Despite mine not showing the playlist names which Lexus are going to fix the sound quality is superb. Get one !
  20. I can't use my Paypal anymore because the sharks limited my account due to some scumbag laundering money through it. I had debt collectors ringing me up and I couldn't get in touch with anyone at Paypal to sort out. The company just disgusts me as they don't seem to have any support when things go wrong.
  21. Ha ! I agree. A Lexus is not a car to be Kev'd up. Before anyone called Kevin gets touchy about this I believe down south they call it Gary'd !!!
  22. I've sorted it by ringing Lexus Birmingham. They've said there are two modules, a multimedia one and non-multimedia one and they think they've fitted the non-multimedia unit. Then Gino at Stockport said there is another different connection to fit. He's booked my car in and sorted a courtesy car and will fix the iPod and the rattle in the passenger seatbelt housing. I'm just a bit sorry I ranted and raved a bit.
  23. I'm starting a new thread here as a similar one is quite a lengthy one with all sorts of different discussions on it. Can anyone help me out here on what to do.... Lexus Stockport fitted a Lexuscare iPod integration unit into my IS250 SE-L Multimedia as part of the agreed deal. However it is not correctly integrated as it only shows Disks 1-6 and no track names - smyggy had stated this was the case with his iPod integration in another thread. Then Scott had his fitted and it looked all ok - track names and the playlists show up properly. So smyggy went to Lexus Birmingham to get them to sort his unit out and they did by fitting a new module (or some update whatever). Scott and Smyggy provided screenshots of the problem integration and the fixed one. I sent this information via email to Lexus Stockport so they could ring Birmingham to ask them how to fix it. I waited a month with no response from Lexus Stockport and basically had a ding dong with the service guy. He said he'd rung Birmingham who denied doing any such thing !!! I also reiterated the information posted on here by Scott and Smyggy. What more can I do to convince them they need to sort it out ???? Aaaargghhhh I'm going mad.
  24. I've still not had my iPod integration sorted out. The service manager rang me up to say "sorry that's how it's designed and there is no software upgrade". I told him it was nonsense and emailed the screenshots of Scott's system. I said "in any case it's shows all the features that are missing from mine in the manual". I told them that Lexus Birmingham had fixed Smyggy's and the service guy said he'd see what he could do. Well it's over a week now and I've heard nothing. Surely it's just a quick call to Birmingham to ask them what the module is that needs fitting ?
