  1. Result, must have been a dodgy bulb! everything works fine now, front spots as well. Many thanks Chris, owe you a few pints sometime. I knew the front spots stopped working a few weeks ago but had no idea that i was driving late at night, after a few light ales, with no bloody tail lights!! :eerrrmm: I had my Areo wheels refurbed and powder coated when I got the car last year, but the idiots failed to check them for buckles etc before they did refurb, they had loads of weights on them! Took car elsewhere to have them properly balanced, and they reckon that every wheel is slightly bent. I could have them fully sorted but would obviously need powder coating again. Have thought about after market wheels but they all look like "after market wheels", not something I want on the Lexus. Will have to wait until I kerb one of them and then its worth getting all fully sorted by a proper firm. If you were to sell yours, reckon £200 each before refurb as so rare now. Once again, thanks for advice.
  2. No!!! The Areo alloys are the dogs b's mate!!! You will regret it.... Just pulled bulb out, off down road now to sort them out, will post outcome....now where did I put my knuckle dusters..
  3. Funny enough I did replace a tail light bulb recently...could it be that simple? If it is, then the foreign bloke in the shop who sold me the bulb for £3.50 will have it inserted into him! The picture of your car is exactly the same as my is300, are our Areo wheels still available new?
  4. Noticed last week that the yellow front fogs had stopped working, last night found that the tail lights were also not working. The 10amp fuse in footwell fuse board had blown but new fuse blew right away. I assume that the front fogs and tail lights are on the same circuit? Has anyone any thoughts as to where the fault/short would be? Thanks guys.
  5. So that being the case, if the alloy wheels are not totally straight that would cause the same affect? (I know that wheels are slightly out)
  6. Generally you find that not only are the pins sticking but the chrome plating has also started to come off so you then have bits of loose chrome adding to the problem, also where the chrome comes off you then find the pins rust and corode leading to an uneven pin surface this then adds to the problem. For what they cost replacement is considered the best option with regular removal and regreasing to maintain them. Changed the pins on mine for original Lexus ones, and i'm pretty sure they were not chrome...
  7. Same on mine, sometimes sounds like a coil spring had snapped but then almost disappears. My mechanic had car on ramps and checked everything but could find nothing wrong. Only possible cause is the shock absorber. Reckon thats what your problem is but is it worth the £ to find out? Leave it as they should be changed in pairs.
  8. Thanks for your suggestions. The EBC pads work really well and dont appear to be wearing discs at all so am happy to eliminate them. My mechanic reckons the next thing to do is replace both rubber brake pipes as they can break down inside causing brake fluid fluctuation, if not that then one of the hubs is slightly warped, but how can a hub be checked?
  9. Since owning car for less than a year, its warped 4 pairs of front discs. Garage done first 3 changes under warranty. They tested all caliper and carriers and reckoned they were working fine. Brake pads EBC greenstuff, new slider pins in carriers, Blueprint discs . I just fitted the forth set and rebuilt front calipers to see if they were causing discs to warp but they are working fine. So if its not the calipers or carriers or pads, then what the hell is warping the front discs every 2 months? Both wheels and discs get to the same temperature so cant see how the warping is happening. Anyone got any ideas????
  10. Having trouble finding out the correct tyre pressure for the 225's, does anyone know?
  11. To be honest, if i was to change them would go for Bridgestones as had them on the is200 and never had a problem, although they did wear pretty quickly. First time had a car with budget tyres and can see why the things are so cheap, guess thats why they call them "ditch finders". At least now all new tyres have different performance stickers on them so one can see beyond looks alone.
  12. When i bought my is300 the fella had just had new 225 budget tyres fitted, made by Westlake (who?) Reckoned the 4 cost him £250 fitted and only bought them as he was selling the car. They look pretty good and seem fine in the dry but do give a bit of road noise. Bad thing is that going around country lanes when wet with leaves etc on the road, the rear end slides all over the place around bends. I'm thinking that this this must be due to these cheap tyres, does anyone else use budget tyres and have this problem? Really dont fancy chucking out £500ish on a decent set..
  13. Owned a is200 for a year before bought my is300 and thought that the fuel would'nt be that much more...FOOL!! The is300 drinks the stuff, lucky its got the sat nav so i can see where the next petrol station is!! Love it though.
  14. Car has done a few thousand miles since fitting the greenstuff pads and they are fine. Drivers wheel does go very black with dust though at the end of a week, dunno why as the others are not too bad. Had new carrier pins/rubber boots fitted both sides and front discs replaced so car brakes spot on, just get a dirty wheel....most odd..
  15. Hi guys, my is300 is due an oil change and although I can see the filter it is quite hidden. What is the best way to gain access to it, and is it best to use semi of fully synthetic oil?
  16. You are welcome to check mine out mate, might even let you take it for a spin if you get me a pint!
  17. google the pub mate, nice place. Sorry dude, im only a lightwieght, 4 is my driving limit but have more if you want!!
  18. Just up the road mate! Sometimes go for a beer at The Rainbow and Dove in Hastingwood (end of A414) you fancy a meet and a beer or three?
  19. Dont get me wrong, my is200 sport was a good car but not a great car and the lure of a is300 was always there. It is such a pleasure to drive, so smooth and relaxing but man that car is quick when the fancy takes, infact from a standing start it feels as quick as my Lotus Esprit Turbo! (will time a 0 to 60 later today to see how fast it actualy is) Apart from the standard kit, this car has the dimmed rear view mirror (which is so good) full leather, rear parking sensors, satvav, arm rest, rubber boot mat, auto adjusting zenon headlamps, yellow spot lights, Areo spoilers and 18inch Areo wheels. I love this car and reckon to keep it for quite a while, unless someone offers me silly money for it! Thing is, what other car would be as good as this in looks, performance and price? (no, not a BMW or a boring Merc)
  20. I sold my is200 after owning for a year and bought a is300 two months ago. Car is 2004 with 52k, fsh, in Platinum Ice. Has every original factory extra available from Lexus including full Areo Kit and wheels.(and 4 brand new tyres) Found it on Autotrader, had to travel few hundred miles to get it but what a lovely car! The is200 is no comparison, infact they are as different as two cars can be, only downside is fuel consumption on the is300. Had been looking around for one of these ever since buying the is200 as hated the manual box and lack of "power" but had to have the original Areo Kit. low mileage and top condition with fsh. Think the fella needed to sell quick as I was the only person who went to look at it after being on Autotrader for 3 weeks, so he accepted my offer of £2600. I am so particular about cars its pathetic (according to the wife) but bought this one on the spot! Okay, I did have the wheels refurbed/powder coated, front and rear bumpers repainted to make car %100 and new front discs with greenstuff pads all round which cost just over 1k, but I still cannot believe how cheap the I bought the car for, as I would have gladly paid at least 4k for it.. :)
