Great post Billy, this has been an ongoing expensive problem since i bought the car,, every one reckoned the caliper war the cause, even though it has been stripped and rebuilt twice without finding any thing wrong with it. The hub/bearing kit you got from fleabay i assume is not genuine Lexus, was there any problems with fitting etc?

On a slightly different subject, if new front wheel bearings have been over tightend, would this make them noisey and indeed damage them?

Mike, at last someone has the same problem as me!! My is300 has had 6 NSF discs, have fitted new brake pads (3 times) rebuilt caliper and carrier, wheel bearing replaced, flexi brake hose replaced with no joy. I was thinking along the same lines myself but will take a chance on a "used" hub. I really cannot find anything else that could cause the disc to warp, mechanics have had the car up on ramps and have checked all ball joints etc etc, but have no idea of the cause. Previous owner may have whacked a kerb or even another car hitting the wheel/hub, who knows...but I reckon that changing the hub assembly is the next step.

Really strange that you mention wheel bearing. My car never had that metalic grinding noise until both front wheel bearings where changed! I took the car back and insisted they change the near side bearing again for another make as i thought it was coming from that side,even though they reckoned the bearing was fine. Assume the garage changed it, but maybe they just left the car for the day and gave it back without doing anything, but noise is still there. Cant work it out as have changed both discs and pads for another make, even done rears as well, but this grinding noise is still there, worse at low speeds. Bothers me that noise only occured after front bearing were replaced...

Light started working again! but where is the sensor located on is300?

The handbrake warning light on the dash only comes on when it feels like it, does anyone know what controls the light? The audible warning works okay though. Not a major problem, just wondered.

Run my is300 on cheapest unleaded available. I was under the impression that the engine computer adjusts the running of the engine to the type of fuel being used..or am i wrong??

If any one wants a manual gear box from a 2002 is200 sport (done 35k) in perfect condition/working order, let me know!

Have been using the green stuff pads in mine which didn't omit any dust and braking was fine. Down side is the unrealistic cost and slight grating sound/feel which i guess is due to the higher bronze(?) content of the pads. Changed the rear discs and pads with Pagid last week and will change the front discs and pads with Pagid tomorrow and hope it stops the grating feel.

Did have this noise after changing the rear discs with Pagid one's. Had to grind part of the lip down on the hub plate ( dunno it's proper technical name) that was rubbing on the inside of the new disc. Also it's worth bending back the metal splash cover thingy behind the hub as it can touch the disc and cause a grinding noise.

Would you Adam&Eve it! Rear wheel hit a jutting out piece of kerb this morning, really made a bad noise, thought the alloy was fecked. The rim protector on the tyre took the brunt of the kerb which saved the alloy apart from a small graze on the rim, but the rim protector had a massive chunk out of it. So the tyre saved the alloy which is the main thing as cant get the Areo alloys anymore, but had to order a new tyre as cant trust a tyre with a chunk missing! p1ssed off as only bought these tyres last month

I would have used it again as no one had suggested using an oil that would get rid of the noise, but now you have and I will take your advice! Thanks for that.

Used a semi synthetic last time (cant remember the make) thinking that it would stop that brief engine noise on cold start ups but it didn't, so used the magnetec full this time. Still hasn't got rid of that annoying noise but engine feels and drives like silk. Will def use that oil again.

good choice Got 6 litres and oil filter for £39.73 from Eurocarparts, and paid local garage £25 to do the job!

Went for Castrol Magnetec 5/30 fully synthetic in the end, engine appears to be a lot smoother.

How do you mean difficult? Should be a lot easier with a new clutch..

The 300 takes just over 5 litres with filter. Is the oil you suggest full or semi?

Had enough of trying to decide which oil to use in my is300, semi or full synthetic?? Last change I used semi as thought it would be better for the engine on start up but can still hear an annoying rattle for a second or two when engine started from cold (is that normal?) Thinking maybe put fully syn in this time instead, what you reckon? Also, how the hell do I get the oil filter off! it's buried! Paid a local garage to do it last time as could see no easy way of getting to it..

Thing is, I have never really bothered to put the old anorack on and check into tyres properly. My old is200 sport was running on Bridgestones which I replaced with the same when needed, never thought about changing to another make, but the is300 really needs a good set of boots to handle the extra power. I agree that tyres react differently on different makes of cars so tyre reviews can only be taken as a guide unless they are reviewed on your exact model. Price is also a factor, a tyre for my car ranged from £45 to well over £200, i use my car daily for business so they needed to be suitable for that as well. These Vreds have ticked all the boxes and at £98 per tyre fitted aint bad! (and they dont arf look the dogs*******) :heart:

no matter what Tyre manufactures say, most high performance summer rated tyres are crap in wet weather more so if the car is rear wheel drive. I juts take it easy on my Falken's when wet and any time I try to push hard the back end kicks out round bends. only time it grips is when dry and cant fault it as its capable of 186mph in the dry if the car permits it. not in my IS300 tho.. best Tyres for wet weather I read were Uniroyals as they are designed with wet weather in mind from the go! but why push a rear wheel drive car when its wet any way?? Know what you mean, but check out reviews on these tyres, everyone rates them in the wet. I wore them in for 200 miles before trying to see what they are like in wet conditions, and I am most impressed, car feels very "planted" to the road. Just need to push a bit more..and a bit more..! Thats the only problem, being used to the back end twitching, it's getting the nerve to go faster around bends in the wet ;)

Have covered 300 miles on these tyres now, the grip is 100% in both dry and wet roads, noise is silent on some surfaces but noisy on others. (although 67db on sticker) Like the rim protection design and the tread pattern, although tread is wide and deep so end up with clicking sound as stones appear to get stuck in them! At the moment I would recommend them as the look and more important the grip is amazing, which on the is300 is much needed.
