  1. I was thinking about this, having had both installations in the past, though not on Lexus. For me, using the spare wheel well leaves you the choice of carrying your spare, or leaving it out if you need all of the boot space, after all, many cars now run with repair kits or spacesavers as standard. A fixed tank, obviously, leaves you no choice, though in it's favour usually offers greater capacity, meaning less fill ups.
  2. Must be wrong about installation then. I'm a member of a motorhoming forum, though I rarely go on there since switching from a coachbuilt to a campervan and caravan combo, and a lot of people on there use refillable bottles for their gas, 6Kg bottles exchanged with calor are ridiculously expensive comparted to filling your own at a garage. Some on there used countrywide, whereby you get a key that you can use 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, and supposedly at good prices. I've never used them, so I'm just passing on what I read, as opposed to recommending them, so please do your own checks. I always found Morrisons cheapest when I ran a Primera on lpg, though Asda weren't bad either.
  3. I'm not 100% sure on this one, but has anybody else noticed an increase in installation prices? I looked at Profess in Cardiff and Mint in Newport a few weeks back, via links on here, then looked again yesterday and I THINK they are both higher. Maybe expecting a rush with current and predicted petrol prices.
  4. Well done David, hope you enjoy your new car. Interesting you also came across the steering column problem, it does make me wonder just how common it is.
  5. I guess it's a case of how many starts it's made, rather than how many miles, though I'd certainly check my battery connections for tightness and especially cleanliness, before stripping anything else down, especially as you mention it's worse when damp.
  6. AVG stopped the linked page opening with a threat alert, I know that sometimes these can be false alarms, but thought I'd better post in case it's correct.
  7. I've seen many arguments about this on various motoring forums. The general opinion seems to be that any vat registered garage can service vehicles without affecting warranty. I've even seen it said that you can use non genuine parts of good quality, though personally I'd always go for genuine parts with receipts for same. The fly in the ointment is when you want goodwill repairs outside warranty, obviously a full dealer S/H will always trump a non dealer one. Here's an article that seems to say as much http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/general-advice/right-to-repair-campaign.html
  8. Just looked again, is it me, or is there quite a difference in shade between o/s/r door and rear quarter panel? Still a lovely looking car though.
  9. If they only last a year, surely they are not "fit for purpose", assuming not high mileage, so might be worth tackling the supplier? I'm not sure about this, but haven't I read on here that somebody found it cheaper to import suspension parts from the USA?
  10. I knew as soon as I saw the thread title that you meant that one on ebay. I'd just been looking at it an hour ago, and thinking the same. Check item no 230736491318 for a good set of LS400 pics.
  11. Agreed as well on the electrics, probably safer. My Accord bumper had to come off to remove the crash bar behind as the towbar replaced it. Personally I'd cut it on the car, but the last one I cut, following the fitting diagram, needed more cutting when I came to offering up the bar. As Steve says, offer it up as best you can to get an idea, and cut conservatively - you can always cut a bit more off if needed. An extra pair of hands doesn't hurt either. Good luck.
  12. Did it not come with fitting instructions? If not, you can often find them online via sellers websites. I haven't fitted one to a lexus, but have done a fair few over the years, and most are fairly easy if you're reasonably handy, though the last one I did (04 Accord Tourer) did require bumper removal and cutting. However my Toyota Hi Ace didn't. Be careful with the electrics, it's easy to cause expensive damage on modern vehicles, so check carefully what's required in terms of wiring kit, the days of splicing in a few scotchlocks are gone I'm afraid.
  13. Just looking in my handbook it shows 2 master keys, one without remote buttons, and says dealer can use either. It also shows a metal tag with a number which can also be used to make duplicate keys. Mind you, even if this is the case, it'll still be no giveaway from a dealer. On an Accord tourer I owned, I bought a full used key and a new blank, combined the old innards with the new blank, got the blade cut then took the key to Honda for programming to match my car. The mobile locksmith who cut the key reckoned he'd be able to program it, having done other makes on his laptop, but failed, so had no choice but to get bent over by Honda. Whether you can do that with Lexus keys I don't know, but it saved me about £50 on the Honda.
  14. I saw this one come and go! You didn't hang around did you? Agreed it's a bit pricey at first glance, but sounds to have been very well cared for, and you'd have payed a shedload more to do all the mods yourself. Love the wheels, did you go for the spare set as well?
  15. Can't say I'm surprised, auction ended with high bid of £4,900 and believe it or not, reserve not met. Sorry, but this one hasn't looked kosher from the start. Seven more LS400 went on sale today according to my ebay email, bringing the total to 35 currently. There's a low mileage Celsior for spares or repair among them, failed mot on shocker and headlight apparently.
  16. Go to a proper locksmith, that's what I did when the shoe bar key cutter type places said they didn't have the equipment. Cost me six quid, though I did have to take it straight back as it wasn't quite right to turn the ignition, so try to park nearby if you can.
  17. Anybody still following this auction? It's now at £4,900, though I can't work out from the bid history how or when it got there, bearing in mind the bids showing on the 21st, how come it was still showing at £3,800 yesterday. I much preferred when you could see the bidders name and check their history. Classified seems to be a better bet these days, or go to a real auction and cut out the middle men.

    Ls 400 Wanted

That didn't take you long, looks a nice unmolested car too. Looking foward to hearing your experience with the LPG.
  19. I wonder what a 14 year old pays in America, I believe that's when they start in some states. Interesting thread.
  20. Valve problems would normally cause oil to be burnt, so blue smoke. White would normally point to water getting in to the combustion chamber. Black would point to overfuelling. Are you losing coolant?
  21. Ok, I'm posting in this forum because this is the model I was searching for when I found this ebay foible, but it's probably true for other makes and models too. If you click on Lexus, then select ls400 from the model selection panel on the left, currently you will get 20 cars. If you type LS400 in to the search box instead, currently you will get 30 cars. I have no idea why this happens, but thought it might help anybody searching for a car. Edited to add, I think it may be that cars listed as ls 400 don't appear if you use the panel, only ls400 (no space between ls and 400), manually searching gets both.
  22. Good decision I think, there are plenty about in that price range, with lower miles and decent history, enjoy your search.
  23. Forgive my ignorance, all down to my advancing age but where is it being advertised? Mike http://www.parkwaybirmingham.co.uk/used-cars/lexus-ls-4-0-v8-4dr-auto-birmingham-201206448987971
