  1. Thanks for the video. I think that's the guy from carbuyer. He does some nice reviews.
  2. Yup. Located under the steering on the left hand side, next to the traction control button. I have to admit I have never used it.
  3. Hi normski, I am afraid I am not very mechanical minded so don't know how to check this. I have booked it in with a lexus specialist that I've read good things about on this forum; Albin B Motors Lexus have told me that my VIN was not affected by the above. Does anybody know if it's safe to keep on driving like this till its sorted? I know it's safe on hydraulic steering wheels but there isn't too much information around regarding the electric ones
  4. Autosol seems to be the most popular choice. I bought it but haven't got round to trying it.
  5. There are a few ways to prove that the paddles are limiters. One of them is as follows: - Change the display on the car so that you can see the gear position. - Drive your car at 20-30mph and put it in S. You will notice a big '4' pop up on the odometer and your gear position screen should show 4 too. - Kick down and watch how the car reverts to the second or third gear to gain speed without you touching the paddles. So basically what you did is limited the top gear of the car to 4. The shifting was still done by the transmission. A true shifter would stay in the chosen gear until you downshift yourself. I am pretty sure there is a page or two in the manual which explains that the paddles are limiters.
  6. Sorry I missed this. It doesn't make any strange sound on full lock.
  7. Thanks for the reply guys. The is250 has an electric steering so low fluid and a faulty pump can be ruled out. Tyre pressures are correct. That's the first thing I checked. I will try my local garages to see if they can make anything of it. There are no warning lights on the dash. It is quite puzzling.
  8. AFS works! I drive in the city mainly and this is probably the reason I didn't notice it at first. It was easy to spot on an unlit road.
  9. Started two days ago on the M25. The steering is very unresponsive and it takes some serious effort to steer the car. Had been reading about the power steering recall and rang my local dealer. He said he could not see any recalls or service campaigns due on my car. He advised I book the car in for diagnostics at 90 pounds and assuming it was the power steering rack I would have to pay the full whack. Don't have warranty as it was a private purchase. Does anybody have any recommendations on how to escalate this or what to do? Any estimates regarding the cost of fitting a new power steering rack? Moral of the story: Always buy your car from a dealership. Sure I saved some money but not a happy bunny right now. :(
  10. Courtesy cars are free unless you wreck them. I know it's a bit of a pain but on the bright side you bought your car from a dealer. Could have been worse. Hope it's sorted next week.
  11. I just can't stand unwanted lights on the dash and 'AFS off' is one of them so it is definitely set to work. It's probably my eyes but there is a good chance that your car being a recent MY has better software and/or hardware for AFS. I think it would be a useful feature if the number of degrees it tilted was better. It will be interesting to see if the new GS has AFS and if it has been improved.
  12. The swiveling must be pretty obvious for you to notice you have it. Pretty much non-existent on my car. I'll probably have to mount a camera up there to see if it moves or not.
  13. - I am pretty sure the high beam does not have AFS. - Lexus have a very poor implementation of AFS. It's easy to prove AFS works on other cars. - The is250 has the headlights aimed too low in comparison to other cars with oem factory xenons. I personally compared it to an audi b8 and bmw e93. Hence, I've adjusted mine to an extent whereby they still point downwards but overall I think I've managed to raise them by two inches when pointed at 25 feet from the wall. I have never been flashed and no problems at MOT.
  14. 2 options: - Get some H11 Osram night breakers or philips diamond/xtreme vision bulbs. - Get a 35w H11 HID conversion kit. (preferably 4300k or 5000k) Either way installation is time consuming due to lack of space available.
  15. Factory xenons will have auto leveling and washers as standard. AFS is not a xenon requirement and more of an add on. Hence some MY's will have it and some wont . The easiest way to find out is to use the satellite switch. Keep pressing right and if you do have AFS you should come across the option to enable or disable it.
  16. @ bluenose A few facts about the 2nd gen IS headlights: - If your car has headlight washers then you should have HIDs. This is the easiest way to tell. - The projector on the car is bi-xenon too. This means that on high beam not only will the separate halogen bulb illuminate, the xenon projector will produce more light too. - The car has AFS which activates at speeds excess of 10mph. The projector moves a few degrees left and right with the steering wheel when turning. - The car has auto-leveling. - The bulb type for the dipped beams is D4S. - By default the headlights are aimed pretty low. There is a nut at the rear end of the car that can be used to adjust the height of both headlights simultaneously.
  17. In terms of ranking Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 is currently the best tyre in the market. Unfortunately I don't think they do a profile as high as 60.
  18. There's two gs250's down the road from me. Depends on where you live. I've seen plenty in London.
  19. It is possible. I found this ages ago and had it bookmarked for future reference in case I ever wanted headrest monitors. If you google 'Dalco car audio' you should be able to find their website and get a quote or something.
  20. Just drive the car enthusiastically every now and then to keep it free of carbon build up. If buying a used car I would certainly recommend using a fuel additive or something like sea foam to clear the engine. If the car is driven in miss daisy mode all the time which is probable given how smooth the transmission is when driven gently, some sort of carbon build up should be expected. Nothing too serious.
  21. Don't think double din kits are available for the is250. It is possible but some sort of custom fit will be required which may not look so pretty. Google 'is250 double din' and you will get the picture.
  22. It's a second generation IS, probably a 250 or something. Silver is probably a colour that brings bad luck to this car. There's two damaged ones on auction at ebay at the moment.
