  1. Thanks for your advise. The strange thing is, it only came on once. I have since done around 60 odd miles, and everything is fine. Would the fault show up when checked, or would the fault have to be on going, Also if this warning came up again, do you think it would be ok to use the car? Tom
  2. I was just driving through town, when the Check Eng warning came on. I stopped, had a quick look, found nothing amiss. Started back up and everything is back as it should be. Checked hand book, where it says something wrong with electrical system. From what I have checked up to now, cannot find anything wrong. the warning has come only once. Can anyone out there shed any light on this. Many thanks for any advise given.
  3. As stated above from Jonathan above. The garage in Sandbach is spot on. He should be able to sort out your problem. He has always looked after me. Good luck.
  4. Hi, I have checked the rear lights. One bulb had blown as Mark pointed out. Problem solved. Many thanks.
  5. I will check brake lights tomorrow. I know the brake fluid is ok coz I checked yesterday. That was fine yesterday. If its brake light, I wander what the small amount if vibration is when braking. it never happens at any other time. The last time the brake pads were changed was about 20,000 miles ago approx, according to the history I have. Depending on how driven, whats the average lifespan of brake pads?
  6. Its just the red light. Nothing else is coming on display.Sometimes there is vibration coming through steering wheel when braking, but only now and again.
  7. Sorry you are losing your job. But don't give up on your LS just yet. You have to have something out of life. Listen to to the above. Makes alot of sence.
  8. The light came on about 10 miles ago. I drive very gently when the warning light is on. That was 2 days ago. I have not used since. I will be getting them done in about 10 days time. The garage where I get most of my servicing done will be doing it. I don't want to take the car to National tyres, kwik fit etc, because they seem a bit unsure about re-setting the warning light. Does this re set it-self once the new pads are fitted? Would it be advisable not to use until the pads have been done. I am a bit paranoid about using in case I damage the discs, As I Have done in the past. Thanks again for all the helpful comments.
  9. Does anyone know after your brake warning light comes on, how long approx before the brake pads ware down to far. Thanks
  10. I did not know that black interior was rare. That's worth knowing.
  11. There have been some really interesting comments on here about the LS400 and LS430. The LS400 seems to hold as special place in peoples hearts. I drove friends LS430 today. What a beautiful car. But for me the LS400 wins, for all the toys the LS430 have. Someone said earlier, what will we do when all the LS400's are gone. Somehow, I think that will be a long way off.
  12. There is alot of talk about both of these models. Which one really is the most reliable?
  13. I own a Mondeo as well. But the LS seems to cope better in the snow, which was a plesent surprise.
  14. I have owned many cars. Lost money on all of them, but enjoyed most. Always wanted an LS. So when one came along that I liked, which took a while, grabbed it. Since its been serviced, was really surprised to see the difference compared to other cars I have owned in the past. Shows how well built they are built. If you go a long time without driving the LS, I find I can appreciate what I have got. But true, Some are better left parked up.
  15. Good to know I am not the only one to think its ok to have more then one mode of transport. Love bikes myself, but also love the comfort of an LS.
  16. Got the LS back today. After a week without her. Just had the exhaust, washers and service done etc. Most will know what is coming next. Wonderful ride, drives like a dream. Best I have ever known. Went for a 100 mile drive just for the hell of it. Even the wife is now converted which I thought would never happen. What is it with these cars that tug your heart strings like this? people say why have you got 2 cars. I say, why have you got a car and a motorbike. One for pleasure, one for commuting or whatever. What's the differance, I say. They never have an answer.
  17. Mine is at the Doctors at the moment having the exahust weilded. I am missing her like hell. Its like having your arm chopped off. When you drive other cars, its then when you relise just how good they are. I do alot of miles in mine and its costing a fortune, but money well spent. Not sure weither to sell or not and upgrade to LS430 or LS460.
  18. Thanks for all the inputs. 1st, the LS is going no where as previously said. Owned st220 and st24 and ghia models. All v6's. Had main problems with st24. Can't fault st220. Just wanted to know what everyone thought. I have wanted an LS 400 for many years. and when the opportunity arose to find a really good one, I grabbed it with both hands. There is alot of rubbish out there. With the fountain of knowledge on this forum, which is absolutely priceless, I found what I wanted. I don't want to use this one as an everyday car. The LS would it handle it fine, but its to special for that. Its having the best of both worlds. Thanks again everyone,
  19. I am probably going to make a fool of myself here. I would be very interested to know what everyone thinks of this little problem I have. Do I spend 4 or 500 pound on my car, LS 400 1998, servicing, welding on exhaust, new washer pumps. Thats it. Runs like a train. I use LS 400 for everything at the moment, commuting, shopping, and going miles out of my way because of the driving pleasure. Or spend around 3 and half grand on a Mondeo. And use LS400 just for pleasure. I would never sell.Lexus. Took too long to find one this good.
  20. So sorry to hear about your pride and joy. At least your LS has not been written off. At least Lexus are looking after things now. Really hope it all works out for you ok. Tom
  21. Thanks for all your help. I think its the pump or fuse. It was not frozen. It just died on me when I was using it. In about 15,000 miles of hard use in the last 6 months, this is the only thing that has gone wrong on me. Amazing car!!! Tom.
