  1. I think if i wanted a performance SUV I'd go for a Cayenne. I love the refinement and luxury ride of the current RX and from what I've heard this next one is even better. Perhaps it will even be like my old LS600h (but probably not)?
  2. We had a constant beeping a few days ago, and I found out it was because the back seats were not fully locked into position. Someone had accidentally touched the switch in the boot and they had move a little bit from their normal locked position.
  3. I've not had the chance yet, but very pleased to hear this. We have our order in and we are hoping to pick up the 450h plug in takumi spec in late March, fingers crossed.
  4. I hadn't realised the 40mph limit either. This helped me answer a question from Mrs S about this. Thanks for that!
  5. Just read this, so hopefully that the RX450h will be equally good if not better:
  6. Thanks for the comments so far. Spottedlaurel - we haven't had time to try the NX450h. I have heard good things. TBH, I'm trusting Lexus on this one. If the car is a dog to drive when we test it in Feb/March then we'll just get our 'bond of interest' back again. No problem with that. Ken R - delighted to hear that you have a good report about the NX450h. I would hope that the RX equivalent will be even more refinement that its NX relative. I've been playing with some online calculators to see what the potential saving of doing around 15,000 miles a year on fully electric power. Does around £500 saving over a fully petrol/hybrid sound about right? We've never had a PHEV of any type so it will be interesting to see what we can manage.
  7. Well, we've really enjoyed driving around in our current RX450h. We've done around 21k miles having bought the car when it was a year old. But the opportunity to buy a new plug-in hybrid has proved too much, and today I paid a 'bond of interest' (fully refundable) at my Lexus dealer in Stoke and we are in the queue for a new RX450+ plug in hybrid. They are estimating the car will arrive in Apriil 2023 - we'll see! We are super excited about this. We went for the dark grey external colour with the new sepia interior. We haven't enjoyed living with the lighter interior in our current RX. It looks great but does not like family life, and definitely not the demands of twin 2 year old grand-daughters! We do around 15,000 a year. I reckon at least 2/3 of these are local trips around our town, local countryside etc and will be entirely done on electric power. So, looking forward to saving a bit of money there. The significantly better 'benefits in kind' from a tax perspective were a major factor in our decision too. Anyway, I'll post pictures in due course but had to share the news here. This will be our third car from Lexus Stoke (our first was the LS600 and the second our current RX). Every dealing I have had with this garage has been first class. Honestly, I think that whole customer service thing that you get from Lexus is second to none. It is a major reason for why we have been committed to the brand for such a long time. Next April, if anyone is after a 3 year old RX450h with around 40k on the clock and a FLSH I'll be posting an ad once I've renewed by gold membership.
  8. This is definitely the way to buy one of these cars, i.e. from a trusted member and with full knowledge (or as full as possible) of the car's history, servicing, etc.
  9. I like his videos. But not sure I'd be taking a punt on that LS430. I think he said it had 17 service stamps but still needed a whole load of residual work. Not sure who was meant to be looking after it but I reckcon quite a few corners must have been cut.
  10. I bought my LS600 from Lexus Stoke (around 5 years ago now). At the time, it had done just a few miles less than 100k. They gave the car a full 3 year manufacturer warranty. I appreciate that this car has a few more miles (and I guess it won't come with more than a 1 year manufacturer warranty as a result), but I think it is testament to the quality of these cars that Lexus are confident selling them at that age and mileage through their main dealerships. I sold my LS600 privately when the main dealer warranty expired and we now have a new-ish RX450H. It is also a brilliant family car, but it ain't no LX600.
  11. I think if you are buying an £85k Bentley you wouldn't be that worried about the running costs? Certainly there is no doubt which car wins on looks and the on the sound it makes though!
  12. I've dealt with Lexus Stoke for several years now, first with my LS600 and more recently with our RX450h (which has just completed 19k miles). Yesterday afternoon, rang them to ask about fitting two new Bridgestone tyres. I was quoted what I thought was a very reasonable price (and around £40 less per tyre than my local tyre fitting company). Turned up this morning, tyres fitted, nice chat with Joel who sold us our RX, admired a beautiful Bentley they had in the show room, and back home by 11. Great service as always from Lexus Stoke. No post is complete with a couple of pictures, so here's the RX with new tyres: and here's the Bentley:
  13. Couple of main reasons spring to mind: 1. Porsche main dealer customer service was awful (and I mean absolutely terrible). 2. There was no way that the one year hybrid Cayenne, at around £35k more than the one year old RX450h, was worth that additional money imho. It was an amazing car to drive, and probably. more engaging if the truth be told, but the eye-watering price makes the RX450h look like a complete bargain. I also think that the stellar reliability associated with Lexus is worth considering. Bills for an out of warranty Cayenne are not going to be cheap. Cheers, Jonathan
  14. Our first dash cam is being fitted by Lexus tomorrow. Please to say that I'm getting a 10% discount thanks to the gold membership here. I'm hoping their one won't fall off! Hope you got yours fixed ok.
  15. Congratulations on your new car purchase! The journey towards a new car purchase is always fun (in my experience anyway). We are picking up our new, preowned RX450h tomorrow from Lexus Stoke. We drove a Porsche Cayenne (eHybrid) and a Q7 along the way but the 2020 RX450h we settled on was simply the best in terms of comfort and drive. Some great tech in it too. Will be a great family car for the next 5 - 10 years all being well.
  16. Right, trip to the Lexus dealer in Stoke today. Final decision - we went for a one owner, RX450 in black metallic with cream interior. New shape with new front grill/fog lights and updated infotainment system etc. Just over 10k miles. We had the option for a new one in exactly the same spec, but my view was that Lexus prepare their new cars so well it didn't seem worth paying the additional £. On balance, we thought we wouldn't use the 7 seats and with them up the boot size is next to useless anyway. Certainly couldn't fit a buggy for my twin grand-daughters which was one of the main reasons for thinking about that. Anyway, picking up Friday so will share some pictures then. Very happy to be back in the Lexus fold.
  17. OK, drove the Cayenne. Great car, but we have decided to go down the RX450hl route. Does anyone know when you have the 3rd row of seats folded flat whether the parcel shelf extends to cover the whole of the boot area? We forgot to check this at the dealer yesterday.
  18. Yes, there is that. Lexus always wins for reliability. I was probably not quite as positive as I should have been in the previous post. The RX was a very nice drive indeed. Just surprised that the electric motor noise was so evident under acceleration.
  19. Hi, Test drive completed. A little underwhelmed tbh. Noise of electric engine under acceleration was quite pronounced but everything else was quieter. Definitely louder in the cabin than my 2008 LS600h. But very comfortable indeed. Third row of seats are electrically operated from the boot. I don't think they come out but they do fold flat. As you all know, really only suitable for children although I did manage to get in 😀. The car we drove was a 2019 model with around 16.5k miles. They are asking £40,700 for it but I'm really not convinced. Cayenne test drive tomorrow. We'll see what that is like. Thanks all, Jonathan
  20. Interesting! Thanks to both of you for your comments. Lots to think about. Off for a test drive now but no decisions today. Cayenne test drive tomorrow.
  21. Hi all, Looking to purchase a pre-owned RX450hl from a Lexus dealer shortly; probably looking at a 2019 model and test driving one tomorrow. Just wondering what joy any of you have haggling over the price for these pre-owned cars? I love a good haggle. Any stories or ideas about what is achievable or realistic appreciated. Thanks all! J
  22. Thanks for the fulsome replies. The car looks very tidy indeed. I've advised my friend to look for a good example from a forum such as this. Good luck with the sale.
  23. Well, it's not for me. Asking for a friend. We are off to try a few Porsche Cayenne when the showrooms open on the 12th April in light of my LS600 sale recently. Oh, and a RX450h. Nice choice to make between the two.
