  1. Can someone just comfirm that if i want to replace my water pump the cambelt needs to be removed? Im just confused because its not driven by cambelt, and from what I can see its in front of cambelt anyway.i will replace cambelt if nessassary its just ide rather not if pos because of exspense and its good for at least another year. Also if I replace water pump what belt does drive it? Alternator belt?
  2. wooops this has happened to me so i should of suggested it! sorry. they tend to bend and sit snug in there! In fact I recently bought some number plate led bulbs and the first pair i bought had that stupid plastic surround and they would not fit in the housing. had to buy a 2nd pair with the bair type.
  3. I was gonna get a double din, but ended up getting a IS with navi and have read it can get complicated! so gonna get a GROM and for the rear view camera get a new rear view mirror which doubles up as a screen
  4. that is sooo weird. I have no idea sorry.
  5. I get 22 mpg all town driving.and thats with a sticking brake, so may improve after I sort that. I used that app on my phone. Its a bit ofa drop from 30-35 in my focus auto but dont care. Love my IS :)
  6. Well im gonna get it looked at, at another garage for a second opinion next week. im not convinced just changing the caliper is the long term fix (like read on other posts)
  7. I noticed factory HIDs do come on instantly, but we bought very cheap kits so could be the reason. but i also read that cars such as the new range rover has halogen bulbs JUST for flashing function, then BI-xenon for high and low beams. so i guess not instantly enough.
  8. My CREE Q5 side lights were about 15quid, thats actually good for CREE. bit annoyed tho because there the projector type and i found out the IS bulb holders point outwards, not forward. anyway back to the subject, ive received dud LEDs many times from cheap Chinese sellers, they tend to send replacements no quibbles. but one time one didnt work and I pulled it apart and found there was too much glue and stopping the current, had to pull it off, worked then.
  9. I think that will be the next thing to try if it does get bad again. already greased up like mentioned. Im gonna give it a good run tonight 100mph+ up the bypass :)
  10. yeah im prolly gonna wait now and just get my water pump and timing belt done this time next year. meh, it'll be fine.
  11. I bought some CREE Q5 7 watt 501 LED side lights for mine and work perfectly. try switching the bulbs round, the polarity's have to be right with LED type bulbs.....
  12. I dont know if i should just wait until i get the timing belt done on mine. Problem is its not due till end of next year will my pump last that long do you think? what will happen if it fails all together? EDIT: just realised its not driven by timing belt! DO'H :iraqi-info-minister:
  13. My belts due a change end of next year so thought ide better check! I was dreading the sight of a half belt! but luckily its all good. It got its belt done at lexus stockport the first time so im guessing they new of the fault and change the tentioners on mine :) Also anyone wanting to have a quick check, you only need to take the 2 left side bolts off to prise the cover enough to have a peek. saves taking the air intake all off.
  14. Ive got stuff like that around my water pump and my water pump needs replacing. It is making a noise at idle and if i touch it with a screw driver i can feel its rough. If your is running smooth i wouldnt bother unless your cambelt is due a replacement, makes sense just to slap a new pump on. they dont cost much.
  15. Just wanted to compliment whoever owns the gorgeous LS400 I saw in shrewsbury a few days ago (if your on here) the rims where black like genesis VIPs or similar.
  16. ok just hear me out. I know this has been covered but im still in mystery. Yes my driver side brake was sticking. ive seen its common, so of course i thought new caliper. However I took it to the garage just to be sure and we looked at it together, took it all apart and everything seems fine. The pistons sprung back very nicely and the caliper was free and clean. So grease it up, cleaned the pads and put it all back together. Its as good as new and have been driving for about 3 days with both calipers stone cold even driving through town. However today I noticed the drivers side was very slightly warmer, jacked it up and the wheel is slightly stiff and stiffer than the other, but nothing compared to what it was originally. so im guessing the problem is returning? but the caliper is fine, the pistons are free, the slide pins are clean. so what is the REAL cause of the IS sticky brake? My mechanic said to change the pads if it happened again, but there nearly new although were cheap ones. Has anyone actually found out the problem? or have we just replaced the caliper without thinking twice? Ill keep an eye on it
  17. Check this website out: http://wheelwright.c...heel-visualiser Ive played with it for fun. You can select your car and most alloys and it will generate a image with the rims. I checked and dotz rapier are on there and so is the IS200. Theres a few other sites too that do the same. You could also photoshop it yourself by taking a side picture of your car and pasting the image of the dotz over the OEMs... anyway i had a look and the dotz rapiers look good on the IS i think. Darker alloys will look good on your platium ice IS and the rapiers have silver accenting too to match the car. look awesome. good choice.
  18. mines just started but the cars 12 years old so surely a recon that is practically new is going to last at least another 10 years until it happens again?
  19. I know this is a oldish thread but just wanted to know one thing, because this has just happened to me! drivers side, font. very annoying btw especially from a lexus, anyway am i right in thinking only the drivers side tends to have this problem? because i was going to get both done but would rather just get the one done to save the pennys! and i will be going for the recon from bumpy rides too. thanks. even tho my dad said hes just replaced the pistons when its happened on his cars but cant seem to source them....
  20. I changed my boot lid on my old car (ford focus) it was easy, i bought the shell and just swapped everything over. cant imagine it being any different on the lex
  21. If i was staying in the country... i would definitely upgrade to a 300 for the simple fact its gets same MPG as my IS200 auto, its a no-brainer. but only being 25 ide have to wait a year or two anyway
  22. Fold up each corner of the boot liner and it pops out. btw is the boot light missing out of yours too?
  23. Yes halogen bulbs are capped off at the end, but i noticed my HIDs arent, but i find it hard to believe the reflector is different on a IS with factory HIDs, im pretty sure there is only one part number for replacement headlights. Could you take a picture of your headlights close up and maybe bulbs too for us so we can compare the setup. I always thought if there are bulb defusers (metal cap over bulb) you can get away with retro fitting HIDs. After fitting them to my IS too i felt they were already designed for HIDs because when i put some in my focus the light like you said was scattered and had to point headlights fully down, but on the IS i dont and find the light is contained much better. Ill try and get a wall shot too at some point to better compare :)
  24. btw has anyone noticed my bumper is sagging a little on the right? lol
