  1. Looks like there isnt the interest that I was hoping for .... so ..... to help andyman and anyone else thats interested, the place you want to talk to is a guy named Burl and his email address is sales@autoheat.com.au. Regards Dave
  2. Yep they are the ones. I cant believe that with all the remarks that there have been over the last few months about the clock/temp being black that you are the only one interested......
  3. All, I am investigating doing a deal with a supplier to get the screens, fitting will involve you (or your electrician friend) getting the soldering iron out, instructions will be provided. The cost will be somewhere between 120 & 150 pstg for the bits I think (dont hold me to it at the mo) Anyone interested reply and I'll guage interest. Cheers Dave
  4. 1954 Simca Aronde (1750cc I think)! More rust than metal, cost me £8.10s in 1967, tpft insurance £20, put a refurbished clutchplate in it and did 10000 miles in 8 months. Bench seats front and rear. Column change. Replaced the exhaust front to back with 2inch copper - sounded - well I thought it sounded good! Hey Ho those were the days
  5. Dave I can't see them on your website. Am I being dense? What do they look like, what is the incar bit like etc etc Cheers
  6. Happened across this http://www.breakerlink.com/index.php link whilst errrrr working today. it may help somebody, and I dont recall seeing it before.
  7. Yes, thanks Matthew - I've read them. With all that I havent spent on the car I might as well get the panel done properly!!
  8. Just been idly looking around the website, reading Pops's problems, Graybeards problems, Maneesh's solutions etc etc, and thinking about my car. I bought it in March 2001 with 92k on the clock from an unknown car lot for £9500 (a high price) not knowing anything about Lexi or this website (so I'm impulsive!). Since then, I've replaced 5 tyres (with Vredesteins - brill tyres), 1 set of brakepads still good (Halfords), a proper set of plugs for £65 (which cured a very slight misfire) and changed the engine oil (Halfords semisyn) a few times. Every time the drivers side w/wiper needs changing I can only replace the rubber - anyone know how to get the blade off, mine wont budge?? Its now done 143k miles, the oil doesnt change colour from change to change, I tow a large caravan frequently in all weathers, twice now to mid France for summer hols and I drive it every day to work and back (6 miles each way) - it goes - it stops! I get 17 mpg towing (ouch), 21ish to and from work, and 28ish on a trip to my parents in Cumbria (800m round trip) all motorways at about 85 (sorry officer 70). The a/c works within 10 secs of pushing the button, the clock is black as is the a/c screen, but hey, I've got a watch and I dont need to be told whether I'm too hot or cold - I just know! The wheels need a bit of a refurb but not badly. I've got a faint strange squeal from under the bonnet at about 1400 rpm, not more not less. (I must get round to looking at that!). My only seriousish prob is that the instrument panel doesnt light in the cold weather for about 10 minutes - soon as I get the cash together it'll be going to D's in Newbury. Was I right to pay (unknowingly then) a high price - yes I think so - was I lucky - oh YES. Am I a smug git - yes (sorry)
  9. Nope ... button on the key does nowt. Yes I know theres an on/off button just to the left of the steering column, and it makes no difference which way its switched. I can only assume that some bit of electrickery has died! but thanks for the thought
  10. Having replied to Maneesh that my car is still going strong, today my 'plipper' - doesnt! I've put a new battery in (AT 6 BL**DY QUID!!!) and it just remains silent. I havent dropped it in water or bashed it or anything out of the ordinary. Can anyone suggest a reason/remedy???
  11. Thanks for the prompt Tim750r, I went and checked my tranny oil (pulled some out on the stick) I wiped it on my fingers (yuk) and it feels/smells nice and clean, and its a nice clean oily colour, so I dont think I've got a problem, but its due for a change anyway on mileage. Cheers Dave
  12. I think Lexus are just covering themselves when they suggest an oil cooler. My '93 140k LS400 tows a large caravan frequently in UK and now twice over 1000 miles in France and the temp has NEVER moved from centre spot where it always is. (hopefully I'm not tempting fate...........) Dave
  13. Mast is easy! Unscrew the top of the fixed part of the aerial (where it goes into the wing) and you should be able to take the mast out when you switch the radio on to push the mast out theoretically. If the bit that engages with the cog inside the aerial motor is broken (a long plastic strip with teeth on) then I'm not sure how to get the broken bit out, but I've just replaced my mast for 20 odd squid. To get the whole thing out you need to get the trim in the boot nearside wall off then investigate further - something I havent had to do! Dave
  14. I have towed a Buccanneer Elan 15 (22 feet end to end and 1215 kg) for all 3 years that I've owned mine, averaging 3000 miles a year towing. Orig radiator, no mods to A/C, goes like a train! Sorry, the towbar maker has stopped doing one for the LS. I know another member had one fitted earlier this year. I have lost their details unfortunately, if Mari (the only bit I can remember of their name!) reads this then maybe she could help Regards Dave
  15. I have a quite steep downslope drive into a very narrow lane with limited visibility, so caution is very definitely in order! I negotiate the last few yards before the road at about 1MPH or less, and if the discs are cold and damp (after a winter night) the brakes make a very nasty juddering sound and low freq vibration through the car. As soon as I use the brakes at any sort of speed, it goes, not to return till the same cold damp conditions occur! I've physically checked both the pads and the discs, and all is OK. HTH Dave
  16. Update..... I checked the timing tonight after another warm day, and it took less than 2 minutes (not 5) to cool the car. I'm with Maneesh here, you probably need your pipes behind the dashboard looking at, probably split and all that lovely cool air is being wasted!! Dave
  17. Yep, thats what happens with mine! It just does what it says on the buttons and all evenly. Yesterday (first time this year) got into my car to come home from work, its been in the sun all day, temp reading 22 outside (about twice that inside!), turned on A/C to reduce temp in the car and within about 5 minutes it was nice and cool....... it just works! Cheers Dave
  18. Sorry Colin, I have to disagree! On my LS400 '94, I have to hang on to the cap (a little exagerated but not much!) to stop it being blown across the forecourt. If it was a vacuum, then it would be difficult to remove the cap! Surely the pressure is there to aid in petrol delivery to the engine, a partial vacuum would do exactly the opposite..... Cheers Dave
  19. Apolgies Maneesh, just checked, you are correct. (Doncha just hate a smartar**) Dave
  20. Sorry chaps, all 4 have always worked a treat, trouble is the switches for the fronts are just where I used to put my phone (on top of the open (unused!!!) ashtray, so often turned one or other on by mistake. Fine in winter, not quite so clever on a hot day!!! Dave
  21. Filled my '94 up yesterday after the light had been on about 5 miles and put 73 litres in. Tank is theoretically 80 litres (should be same as yours). HTH Dave
  22. Sorry, never seen that problem. Sounds more mechanical than electrical ie a dirty bearing 'holding' the needle or somesuch Give Maria at dsautoelectrial a pm, maybe they've heard of it, they've certainly done a lot of work on Lexus instrument panels Cheers dave
  23. Just a thought, when my instruments finally reappear, all the needles are briefly 'at rest', and as indicated in my other post, the trips dont appear to function when the dash lights are off! So..... it may be that your problem is actually allied to the same transistors as mine, except not all of them. Maybe only the one that affects the needles moving (but I'm guessing) Cheers Dave
  24. My dash lights have been getting progressively worse over time (ie takes longer to come on) and I'm probably like other LS owners - fanatical about MPG so I check the trip frequently. I travel 11 miles each way to work, 8 on a motorway. Anyway, Sunday, filled up with juice (Superunleaded at Sainsburys, good stuff), reset the trip, and thought no more. Monday, no ice, so didnt start the car early to warm up (and get the dash on) like I normally do, drove to work, dash didnt come on till I was almost there, checked the trip out of habit on arrival -- 2.5 miles-- !!!!????. I will continue to monitor it, but has anyone else noticed that the trips dont seem to work when the dash lights are off?? Dave
