  1. Trouble is, insurers go on what the manufacturers recommend. In a claim, if you dont have the 'correct' tyres, the claim may be booted out. My 2p
  2. If you use Firefox, you can not only delete the cookies easily, you can set a flag that prevents sites that would replace a deleted cookie from replacing it!!!! I've just upped LS430 to second place!!!!
  3. Spotted this in AutoExpress http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/56858/no...he_cc_fold.html Apologies if its already posted
  4. My '93 mk2 gives me 20-21 around town and 28 on a motorway run, its done 150k and 'just' gets normal servicing by me. No I havent got FLSH but there again it has cost me nowt except for 2 sets of brake pads and 1 set of tyres (obviously plus oil and filters etc) in 4 years/60k. Its now worth around 2.5k I suppose (oops forgot - cost me for the standard a/c and clock display problem) It goes (very well) it stops (very well). Its the most comfortable car I've ever owned and as my 2 sons say - Its just the nuts
  5. I'm with tangray1 on this, it took me about 4 hours to find it, would have been about 1 minute if I'd RTFM!!!
  6. Hmmmmmmmm not sure (for me that is) hey - its your car - fill yer boots ( or put them on in this case!!)
  7. 1954 Simca Aronde - more rust than metal (In value for money terms - the best car I've ever had - purchase price £8.10s, mileage 10000 in 8 months, running costs apart from petrol and oil - £0!!!) 1965 Thames 15cwt pash wagon - no windows but had a setee and a bar! (forgotten one or two) 1966 Rover 2000 auto a real pile'o'poo 1965 Alfa 2 seater sports (dunno the model) 1600 twincam rocket Built a Nova Kit based on a '61 bug (see http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/newlancsvwclub/...Nova_Pages.html for an example (thats not my page)) 1966 Norton Atlas 750 It felt fast then! 1964 3.4 Jag mk2 greeeat in a straight line, dont try to corner!!! then got married, kids/mortgage, crap cars
  8. A company in Canterbury (Kent) were able to reproduce a key from a working one for a Mazda that my wife had and that was a transponder key. They charged £25 and Mazda had wanted £200 to replace all sorts of gear in the car. They may be able to help, or suggest someone closer ------------------------- Acme Locks & Keys Locksmith (01227) 785551 53, St. Stephens Rd Canterbury CT2 7JD --------------------------
  9. Did Kent to Cumbria on Sunday and back on Tuesday. 310 miles each way, very fast run (used the M6 toll - WHAT an improvement) 5h20m up with an hours stop, 5h10m back with 30 mins stop (means an ave of about 72mph ), got an average of 26mpg overall. I think thats brilliant for an engine thats done 150000 miles!!
  10. Mine used to do the same (hesitate) and if I think about it at the right time it probably still does, but its so slight that I now ignore it. Dunno about the smell though! I did the plugs, leads and throttle body (easy enough job - see http://www.lexls.com tutorials), and each contributed a bit to the result. Lexls do say to drain the coolant/remove the whole thing, but I didnt! I held the butterfly open with a mole wrench externally and stuffed half an old tshirt (securely fastened to a cord) past it and into the far end of the body to catch bits and liquids, then delicately scrubbed the inside of the body with a toothbrush (the wifes of course) and the aforementioned cleaner. When I finished, I pulled the cloth out and all the crap came with it. I actually did it twice as on futher inspection I'd missed some! I think the TB clean probably had the most remedial effect!
  11. I'm 56 and only have a '93 400, but, my 26 year old son ALWAYS wants to drive it when I see him because (his words) "its just a superb motor". I love it because its the fastest thing I've ever driven (last was a Rover 827(Honda) and I thought that was fast) and it will blow away just about any opposition!! Do it, you are a long time dead
  12. Make sure that you have enough fluid in the autobox. Thats the only thing I can think of!!
  13. Well, I dont save any money cos I've never had to go near a Lexus garage (except for a radio mast and that was before I went gold), I do all my own servicing, I'm not rich, but I like to help finance the club. My 10p
  14. I know that there are some automotive locksmiths that will 'create' new keys by reading the chips on existing keys. I had one done for a Honda a couple of years ago in Canterbury and it cost me £25 when Honda wanted £200 to give me a new 'master key'. Sorry I neither have their address or phone no, but I do know it can be done. Dave
  15. Glad I was able to help, the only thing I've EVER bought from a main dealer is a new electric aerial mast for the lexxie from Lexus and that was £26 which aint so sad. So somes you win but most you lose!!!
  16. Well .... as I said ... great. Its a pig of a job to do, just take your time, allow a minimum of half a day to do it, DONT pull the old ones off too aggressively, the bottom ends can come off. Good luck Dave
  17. Thanks I will call them in the morning. cheers Robin.. ← called them, had to give give them a prompt as they first said they did not do lexus bits. ordered & collected today. thanks for your help. ← Great - errrr you collected - from CHEPSTOW!!! :duh:
  18. Well... I saw 145 on my speeedo without the button pressed (on a test track o'course ossifer) before I chickened out!!
  19. For you and anyone else interested, my HT leads fitted perfectly and work a treat, shop is : Motorhouse, 48 Holborough Road, Snodland Kent 01634 246153 A one man band, aladdins cave inside, very helpful.
  20. Now we're getting there, some good advice, thanks all, anyone got any opinions on the Panasonic a1000 or e1000? Dave
  21. Well Kazdul...... We're just getting out of a contract with a company thats given us all sorts of grief (think of the bible - first book!!) , and really not chosen anyone else yet. Its only a contract for 5/6 phones at a good rate thats required. We've been told that despite adverts, we'll get the best deal with a straight contract - no freebies, no gimmicks. Unless you know different!!! Dave
  22. Ive just been asked to choose myself a new company mobile as we are moving to a new supplier!! Now, I'm sure some of you chaps will have an idea or three which is currently the 'best' phone to get for all sorts of reasons, so go for it - tell me - I need to know what to get . My sons advised Samsung D500 or Panasonic X500. All I actually want to do with it is (strangely enough) make phone calls, but hey, tell me what I should get for whatever reason, only proviso, it must have bluetooth, and I dont really like clamshell. Cheers Dave
  23. Look at http://www.sarvalues.com/index.html it tells all!!
