  1. I know I'm tempting fate but....... mine stayed spot on the centre towing a 'kin great 1500kg caravan down through France 3 years ago (very hot summer) at 70mph (the legal limit in France) mile after mile after mile......... (sorry kilometres in France). It certainly never moves in this country, towed the same 'van back from Cornwall 2 years ago on the hottest day on record (you remember how hot it was?) and spent 2 hours starting and stopping on the A303 - it never missed a beat.
  2. My first one - top of the range Sony (£229.99) - died after the warranty period requiring £120 to repair - dumped. Next one - £35.00 from Argos played everything including MP3's. Now been superceded by the latest from Asda £29.99 (gave the other to a neice cos it still works), would probably play a slice of bread if you could get it in! But they are all slim ones
  3. I can try to sort it for you. I have software (various) cables (lots) computers to stick it in (a few). If I get the stuff you want off it I'll quote you a price (not expensive) otherwise - nowt. Let me know If needed I will simply take the whole shebang and return it once done (or not!) if you are not comfortable taking the disc out.

  5. Just discovered BigFatLexus's solution (thanks BFL), sounds like it might work. My LS is getting a bit musty. So.... we've (well er indoors has) got a steam generator that powers her iron and does all sorts of wondrous cleaning. Making steam and using it is its forte, and it has a 3 litre water source. so should not run out quickly. So thats what I'll use, but where do I find the exhaust port (for want of a better term) that collects the air from the interior of the car and shoves it into the recirculatory system, cos thats where I'll aim the steam? Anyone got a clue?
  6. I'm agnostic (http://www.arts.cuhk.edu.hk/humftp/E-text/Russell/agnostic.htm) and feel that everybody is entitled to their own views. If I send everyone a Merry Xmas (at the right time of course) I would not expect any other religions to moan So to everyone that believes - have a great Ramadan My 2p
  7. Welcome to LOC Sounds like you are low on fluid - top it up ASAP. If its not then it may get expensive!!
  8. OK Thanks Scarface - I'll pass on the info :P
  9. A friend is buying a new mini one and wants a tracker and knows nowt! I can look through the ads and advise on what the ads say, but personal referring is always the best so... Any thoughts on (as the title says) best/worst/cheapest/most expensive? Anyone actually had one used to retrieve a car (or not!!)? How well did it work? Cheers Dave
  10. Question from a work colleague ... Define 4x4, does it cover Jag X type (4x4) (she has one), Fiat Panda (4x4) from a while ago (she used to have one), Jensen FF (not Button!) the original sporty 4x4. Is there a link to the article? Probabaly Fergy is correct - a loada b*ll*cks
  11. Hey,.... nowt wrong with caravanning. Sounds like I'm even older, my youngest boy got married last weekend! I've been rallying since 1993, every 2/3 weeks through the year. Join a club (ACC is the one I belong to - NOT caravan club) pm for details or we can share with EVERYONE hahahaha - they wont take the p1$$ will they????
  12. Have either of you guy's had an oil cooler fitted to your LS's? When I enquired about towing a caravan with my GS, they all said I would have to have an oil cooler fitted (being an auto) which worked out costing more than the tow bar itself ← Nope - the standard cooler works absolutely fine. Been loads of miles with vans on the back - temp guage never changes (and it would if the auto trans was overheating) - I do keep an eye and a nose on the trans fluid (just in case), but it is absolutely fine! Originally I did enquire of Lexus about towing with an LS but they were so snotty ("we dont tow caravans with Lexuses" - honest - that was the reply from Canterbury) that I ignored them and spoke to a number of towing companies, the best answer was " Well, you would need a cooler towing a twinaxle across the sahara in summer, but otherwise - no"
  13. Freeze it then it should chip off easy without damage - use summat from the freezer (that is frozen!!), hold it against the gum for a while to freeze it my 2p
  14. Stick this http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/cgi-bin...bjects/CTDSites link on your desktop, click it once a day (assuming your boss does not mind) and click the obvious button. My wife survived it, lets help some others. ================================================ Now go to http://www.grid.org/home.htm, if you can/are allowed to, download and install the United Devices screensaver, then join the LOC team headed by Matthew McNally. Nobody apart from me has joined (the team that is) this year, so lets get some more of us if poss! So far the LOC team has contributed 28 years, 159 days, 00 hours, 29 mins, and 48 secs of computing time to this cause. It only does anything when the screensaver is running, so if your machine is on 24/7 like mine, but you are only at it 7/8/9 hours a day, then thats quite a bit of power going to waste : use it for summat useful !!
  15. The bar that goes from left to right at the bottom of the seat back is the one that turns when the button is pushed. If it does not then you have a different problem to mine! On mine, the left hand spline is shot meaning only the right side goes up and down. Advice I've had on here is to just araldite the spline. I tried once but it failed - I think because I didnt clean it thoroughly (oil n stuff), I will at some time do it again after cleaning with a solvent. Good luck
  16. MY LS tows MY caravan (1150kg) very nicely thank you. Been towing with it for 4 years, its NEVER let me down. Trouble is bl**dy slow cars get in my way!
  17. MAKE/MODEL: Vredestein Sportrac SIZE: 225/60/16/Z MILEAGE: 32k THREAD LEFT:3mm ish DRIVING STYLE: 75/25 OTHER NOTES: Just replaced all 4 last weekend with a new set of these.(these notes apply to the old ones o'course). Great tyres wet and dry, would recommend to anyone. Usually need to be ordered, I got mine from JustTyres in Strood (Kent). Mixed driving including A LOT of caravan towing.
  18. Agree totally. Still... would be nice to get an 'official' line on what would happen if you didnt. Any legal eagles reading??
  19. Just to be completely pedantic..... As its a made up word, the plural can be anything you like. If it had a Latin root then yes it would be Lexi
  20. Not so sure that I'd stop for ANYONE not having blues and twos! You can never tell whos in there - orange lights are easy to pick up. Scarface may be able to tell us the legalities of NOT stopping - I would (if poss) drive to a police station and let them follow. Too much carjacking going on at the mo OK I'm a wimp!!
  21. I've just had the same upgrade (Demon Internet) to 2mb(theoretically) but my DLink ADSL router maxes out at 1152 k. The associated numbers are DS att=55 US att=63 DS Margin=12 US Margin=18 If I interpret Geoffers comments right (nice to have him back by the way), these are not good numbers. Soooo..... how does one go about errrr.... getting them sorted? Whats at fault, my ADSL modem, the line, or the DSLAM card (whatever that may be)? If anyone can make sense of what I have just typed, HHHEEELLLPPP Cheers Dave
