  1. A hundred and fifty miles an hour,I thought the LS was governed to 133 ← Maybe Jap imports, my Mk2 1993 has done (ahem) 150+, in Germany obviously!! (ossifer)
  2. Bits of info that you think initially "Thats useless, what a pointless piece of info!!!"..... until you need it. So to get us started ........ When you coil a cable attached to a tool (hedge trimmer etc), start coiling from the machine end, then the cable doesnt get all tangled up with it trying to unwind itself because the machine wont spin, but the plug will!!!! Try it and see Now lets get some really bizarre bits of info going - you never know - you might see one thats of use to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Yet another IT person, sorry. Been IT'ing since 1968 (as others have pointed out, yes they were about then ), however now my watch has more power than the first machine I worked on!! (ICL 1901A, 16k of 6bit ferrite core memory, 1x8 meg disk, papertape, and we ran what is now a VERY LARGE security company on it in Fulham). COBOL contractor all over England 15 years in the middle. Now I build SQL based websites - hey - someones gotta do it - and it feeds me and the wife! Got my LS400 '93 in 2001, service it myself, still brings a grin when I hoof it. Its done 152000 and the way its going it'll see me out! Cheers Dave
  4. Telegraph Road - Dire Straits But then I'm old
  5. Passed 'bike' test first time 1965 on a Lambretta !!!! Passed car test first time 1966 in a Hillman Minx!!! My dad was manager at Putney BSM so I got free lessons - only drawback was I always had three other instructors in the car with me, two training, one teaching, it made for a few laffs I can tell you. Putney was where instructors were trained then.
  6. My wife took 14 teenagers from school to Cornwall for a week coupla years ago. They went in minibusses with other drivers, she took mine as escort and added a coupla kids. The kids were perfect - no mess - no damage. The wife? She locked the only set of keys she had with her in the boot with the doors locked while they were at camp!!!!!! Called the AA out, and it took 2 of them an hour and a lot of sweating to get the keys out. I was actually quite pleased with the outcome!! Shows that security is still good!!
  7. Anyone fixed this? If so, whats required and where do I get it (please, not Lexus!). Is it an easy/moderate/fiendishly difficult job?? At the moment I've just pugged them up to keep them quiet, but the time will come sooner rather than later when I will have to sort them. Cheers Dave
  8. Now returned from the holiday! B) B) B) The Lexus stealers best offer was order a new lock and get it the following day for 75 squid - no use whatever! As a last resort I went to my local garage 100yards away after I'd stripped out all the dash around the lock, he came back, turned the lock to to Acc position (the key must turn to Acc for security), and poked a small screwdriver (could have been anything about 1 cm long and about 3mm thick - an allen key for example) and the whole lock just pulled straight out! "Take it to MCS in Gillingham, they'll strip it and repair it for you!" So I did, for 15 squid they stripped the lock, made me a new key, repaired the jammed .... err.... bits, 30 mins later I went home and slid the lock back in, all was rosy! We went on holiday and had a great time. Any competent locksmith will do the above for the same sort of price. Incidentally, MCS say they can repair/replace any Lexus locks and associated electronics for about 2/3 price of Lexus. I will update this post with their add/phone soon as I can find it!!
  9. Agree entirely with all you've just said justin, however, in our (LOC) defense, we as a group are not usually quite so rough on either a marque or a poss newbie. Maybe it caught someone on a bad day, and Rover have just gone bust!! Even if you dont source an LS, I'm sure you'll have some good times in the Vitesse, I know I did in my 827, and I had a run against an 827 a few weeks back, it was not so shabby, I had to reach 3 figures to beat him, (private roads only o'course!)
  10. Anyone experienced : 1 - ignition key suddenly only goes in halfway (drove home from work fine, went to go out later and this problem) 2 - WD40 - working the key in and out gradually got it to the bottom of the barrel (3/4 hour) 3 - 20 mins later I can just about get the Acc position and it seems to be going no further. We go on a fortnights holiday in the car tomorrow!!!!! (or not) Anyone any ideas????
  11. here http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/EFI/throttlebody.html is a good tutorial on TB cleaning (also other tutorials). I did mine last year - much improved response etc
  12. Sorry lsnut, my car before my LS400 was a Rover 827 F reg with 120k. I had just been made redundant, my new LR Disco had been taken back by the finance co, and I got the 827 for £350. In the 8 months that I had it, NOTHING broke, NOTHING needed replacing, went like a rocket. HOWEVER, the LS beats it to a cocked hat, best car I've EVER had!
  13. PCV Valve - http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/emission/pcv_valve.html I need a new one as mines clogged. Lexus Canterbury want £18, JagGraveyard in the states via Ebay, new Bosch item - $9.99 + $3.00 p&p!!!! Even if I have to stump up for VAT thats about another quid! Aint we lucky in this country!!!!!
  14. On my 93 LS there is a button about where your left kneecap is that will turn it off
  15. Dash not lighting is a prob with blown transistors/diodes (summat like that) Lexus witll charge £1k+ to replace the whole thing. There are plenty of posts on this site from people that have had the same problem and had repairs done for much less than Lexus prices.
  16. I have no trouble at all with tyres wearing out. I currently have a set of Vredesteins on that I have had for over 31k and they are still not illegal and still give good grip in the wet and dry. They are not that expensive either; 120 ish each last time I looked.
  17. I feel for all of you. I was out for 8 months in 2000 (I only have 35 years in computing to fall back on), then got a good (?) job in a £30m turnover company that was closed by its Yank owners last summer. I now work in a small (5 emps) company in Maidstone. . . . . So far ---- So good
  18. Sorry guys, read it again. A carriage return has been inserted wrongly , it should read thus (I think) : At a modest 75-power magnification Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.
  19. I just scraped mine on the near side (doh) and to replace them colour coded .......... £400 front £350 rear!!! Mine (1993) have not aged or changed colour unless they've all done it at exactly the same rate!! I had a quote from a good local sprayer who has said that he could do all the panels and the bumper covers (they're plastic as well) for about £400. Dave
  20. Look here http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...er&f=48&t=4245& Doesnt sound easy tho!!!
  21. Thanks for the comments and commiserations. Decisions to be made!! Chris S. can you better the prices??
  22. Coming out of the carpark at work, all twists and turns on gravel, the edges marked by railway sleepers stacked 2 high, creeping along, had to go close to avoid a car turning towards me, round a corner and ,........ crunch .... too close!. By the time I heard it I had a 'bruise' about a foot long and about 8 inches high across both nearside door plastic panels. Oh good I hear you say, its a plastic panel - Yep, a plastic panel, Lexus Canterbury quoted £400 for the front and £350 for the rear! Thats without fitting! Spoke to a local (good and recommended) sprayer who cant match the paint but could do all round with a close match - bumpers and 4 door panels - for about £400. Its meant to be going at the end of July!!!!! Any thoughts???
  23. Read it http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/main.j...6/04/ixmot.html I suppose he could have been nastier in places but I doubt it. So how true are his bad comments??
  24. Clicked and passed on. My wife had breast cancer, had 20% of one removed, and has now been clear 6 years. :D I will do anything to help the cause. My thanks go to everyone that does!!
