  1. Well, mine unlocks with the keys in but not with the engine running, safety I spose but slightly OTT.
  2. I sorted the exact same prob on my '94 by replacing plugs and leads. Original spec plugs from www.sparkplugs.co.uk and leads from anywhere but Lexus!!
  3. Hi and welcome, see my previous reply to Bison, same link! ← Thanks DavePruce I will be getting in touch with maria. whilst i'm on is this a job I can do myself if so can you give any tips ie how to remove old one from dash etc. any advice would be greatly appreciated and again thanks. ← Not a job that I would like to do myself having seen what Derek had to do!! However, it really is 'ONLY' a soldering and fiddly job, but you'd best have good tools and LOTS of patience. If I were to try it myself now, I probably would use Cat5 Lan (or similar from such as Maplins) cable as that is probably the thinnest (a factor - believe me!). This page http://carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalLexusLS400str1.htm will help with the removal. Good luck Dave
  4. Done A happy Christmas to one and all Dave
  5. I have the same problem, if you turn the heater control up 3-4 degrees does yours come back, mine does? I dont think the new clock/temp would have any effect because they only report what the system is telling them, also had mine replaced and its made no difference I'm beginning to think that mine maybe the temp sensor wherever that may be, (if anyone knows where it is, can they let me know please) but as I dont do that many long journeys, it doesnt cause me much of a problem Cheers Dave.
  6. Update. I didnt drive it much Sat or Sun after I'd completed the job, just made sure it would start and run!! Today, drove to work and its made a lot of difference, tickover smoother, pickup better and just has more 'sparkle'. Hopefully its made some difference to the fuel consumption, that was gradually getting worse!! Dave
  7. ITSAPIG! About 2 hours! If you follow the (very good) tutorial at the link to LexLS its all there. In my PERSONAL opinion you dont need to disconnect the battery to do plugs and leads, but thats personal choice, and I did them one at a time - disconnect one - replace it with a new one, rather than take all off then replace all. The lead set that I got was NOT a Lexus set (£180) but one made by Sovereign that I got from a local car parts supplier, he has dealt with them for years and has never had a problem, so I got them (£69). They fit well and do the job. Be VERY careful removing the old leads. On number 5, the shroud came out leaving the bit that goes on the top of the plug still on. Had to go and buy a VERY long pair of longnose pliers to get it off! I did my plugs a while ago in the summer and got them from sparkplugs.co.uk. Good price excellent service, I'd recommend them to anyone. Good Luck Dave
  8. Its OK, I've found what I was looking for at LexLS.com. (I actually looked there yesterday before I posted here and completely missed this link, getting old I spose!) A link to the correct tutorial here (How to Replace the Spark Plugs & Ignition Wires - 91-94 LS400) http://www.lexls.com/tuneup.html and right in the middle is a pic showing exactly what I wanted!
  9. Sorry Andy, cant find this item at all, any chance of a direct link?
  10. Can anyone point me at a pic that shows me the locations of each end of the plug leads. I changed them today very carefully, one at a time. Trouble was I got interrupted in the middle and when I returned there were 2 ends off!! I think I put them back correctly from memory (should have drawn it first! Hindsight - very exact science!), but while the car certainly goes better than before, it seems to have a slight misfire, or maybe Ive got used to the old bad leads and a new set just make it sound different. Whatever - a definitive pic would put my mind at rest, but I cant seem to find one. Any help gratefully appreciated Dave
  11. Well, my LS changes down with speed reduction and usually (feels like) it ends up in second. I have a feeling that it always starts in second unless I boot it, in which case there is a minute lag then its off to the horizon at great speed!! I've had other autos in the past all of which do the same sort of thing (but with much less pizazz of course!!)
  12. Talk to Derek at D's Autos (http://www.dsauto.co.uk/) he works wonders with lecky stuff on Lexi, and does a lot of work on imports
  13. I was putting 2 stroke in my Lambretta for (I think) about 2 bob a gallon in 1966, 20 Embassy were (again I think) about 1s 11p, I got £4 10s a week as a shipping clerk...... Hey ho, those were the days, used to be able to go out every night, smoke, drink, pay me mum, and run the lambo (see above), even saved some! Try that now!!!
  14. Hi and welcome to the club My '93 has exactly double the mileage of yours and half the number of stamps!! BUT unless you have dealer headed paperwork to back up the stamps, you really dont know whether they're true or not! But lets assume they are, you seem to have picked up a rarity! GU14 I dont know, but there are a few members living in that part of the world, hopefully they'll get back to you This is a great forum - hope you pick up some good info. Dave
  15. Well.... the deed is done, Mark 2 clock and A/C panels are go!! It took a bit longer than Derek thought it would, but hey, it was the first one! If you want it done - talk to D's Dave
  16. If its a mark 1, D's autos will be able to help (01635 297979 or 07796 268848) Dave
  17. Really glad you're OK. Maybe someones watching or its just a very well put together solid car, either way, you'll probably not forget to belt up again!! Dave
  18. Hi Attached (if it worked) is a scan of the dash layout with legend. If you need more just ask Dave
  19. Yep ... but then again it always has! It wasnt one of the problems, but had it been, it would have been sorted out with the mods that Derek made Dave
  20. Thanks go to Derek at D's Autoelectricals in Newbury. Nice people, nice/lots of coffee, a lot of work for a good price, and it works fine. All I need now is the clock and AC screens fixed and all is OK. :winky: Dave
  21. Hi Greybeard Yes - but that is for a MK1, the link I've provided is for a MK2, which CURRENTLY nobody else that I've heard of does. The MK2 is different Dave
