  1. Thanks. Hard bit is getting the old key from a breaker. The ones I've seen have all been rehoused and just been burnt buying one that allegedly came from a Mk4 but would not code at all.
  2. Decent price for a Denso. Rock auto are great to deal with from experience. If they existed in the UK their service would mean they would wipe the floor with most suppliers here.
  3. Great work! I have removed the broken aerial from mine as it was leaking into the car, and now just need to seal in the plastic aerial flange with sealant having capped it off with a solid grommet. Duck tape temp fix over the bare hole. It is a shame the hole is not round as I would simply fill that with a grommet. Never need the radio...
  4. ScousePaul:if the air suspension goes bung it can't be too much of a hassle to put in some coilovers. BC racing do them for the 430 and they are good quality, and you can specify the spring rate you want to keep a limo ride (as well as adjusting the damping and height, of course.) Having helped convert an air suspension Soarer to springs I wouldn't think it is too different and half a day's work maximum.
  5. Air suspension, I suppose. UK market not sophisticated enough back then to be offered what the US and Japan had.
  6. It's a LHD and in the US they didn't have the front fogs (at least initially.) Wheels are pre-Mk 3, too.
  7. £180 incl VAT for cut master key/ fob. Coding is extra but I think that can be done by me.
  8. Thanks, all. I have all of the instructions gathered, including the PDF of the TSB for the revised remote opening from 10 April 1998 (when the fob and key were incorporated into one unit.) So, it seems that there are three processes: 1. Key cutting. 2. Key/transponder programming. 3. Key/remote opening programming. Phew! The helpful Lexus dealer, although charging an arm and a leg, is looking like a plan.
  9. Hi, Purchased the above car over the weekend. It has one three button master key set. I want to program a spare. As I understand it from posts researched on here, the chip needs to be a Denso chip. Can anyone recommend an ebay seller that that has provided a chip set that has worked? Thank you.
  10. Aside from shopping trolley cars it's been my experience any sub £2000 car will need a grand spent on it to get it just right; more if paint is required. Many people use passing an MOT as the baseline, but as was pointed out above, that's not an assurance of safety. It's the subjective view of a tester that a car meets a broad standard. Would I be happy having a car with an advisory that there is play in the suspension? Hell no. Some would say "well, not worth spending the money on a cheap car" but for me it's worth spending the money on a safe car.
  11. Caveat emptor, as you say, and all these old girls will be hiding a dirty secret of some sort!
  12. What these repeated advisories show is a car where routine maintenance has not caught such things and it's left to MOT time.
  13. The subframe corrosion advisories had gone from the most recent MOT. Welding, perhaps?
  14. On the Toyota 1JZ and 2JZ VVTI engines it is quite common for the VVTi gear assembly to leak after 60,000 miles. I am busy addressing this in my Soarer VVTi. Could be this if you are getting leakage from the front of the VVTI UZFE (or the cam gaskets, as mentioned.)
  15. Yup, must be a UZFE as his power steering pump has leaked all over the engine.
  16. For whatever it is worth, see the following reviews of the dealer: http://www.reviewcentre.com/Car-Dealers/Harts-Autos-www-hartsautos-co-uk-reviews_2295241#Reviews Genuine customers or disgruntled competition? Car looks good, though.
  17. Thanks, Malcolm. Probably the one thing I will really check out on a Mk1/Mk 2 is rot and I'm pretty good at spotting it (long history of owning old Datsuns...) I think I am mixing up Mk1 and 2: I would definitely go for a Mk 2 with the same shape as the Mk 1 with the tweaks Toyota made. One thing that does concern me is that suspension parts availability is much better with the UCF20 than the UCF10. Knowing that items will be needed perhaps I am better served waiting for a good UCF20.
  18. I needed some new mats for my Soarer and took the old ones to our local carpet place. The made up two new front mats in some top quality wool blend carpet offcuts they had, for £70. They don't slip and look and feel great. Too good for winter! Another possibility if you want luxury.
