  1. Have you used the correct interface leads to connect the parrot to the head unit?. would have thought that should mute the head and allow the parrot to be heard.
  2. Impact socket ( slightly smaller than the collar, short extension and a wrench. Don't bother taking the collar off, just smack the socket on ( the collar will collapse ) then with the extension bar and wrench you can remove the nut/bolt. you may find you need a breaker bar rather than a wrench.
  3. Dis-connect the battery? the doorlocks still work with the key to enable the mechanic to leave the vehicle secure if he's done and gone before you get back.
  4. you can display the 'tank avg' OR the 'trip avg'. the tank avg resets when you fill up, the trip avg resets when you press and hold the display button on the steering wheel while 'avg' is displayed in the panel.
  5. Like I said on a previous post John, one option is to remove the internals as the mot will only check that a dpf is fitted, not that it is working. Why bother to replace?
  6. Hot or cold weather no difference, Climate control on 1200ish. Climate control off 7-800ish. This is on a diesel.
  7. From what I've read on this the working life seems to be around five years. I have also read that there are moves to get this included in the mot ( if it 's not there and should be, it will be a fail ) so replacement seems to be the best option. Don't know what a genuine part would cost but there are suppliers on the web that do a replacement for around £400. The other option (and this is only a theory ) is remove the dpf, take the innards out and put it back. this way if it does become part of the mot, it will pass because they will only have to check it's there not that it's working and because it's still there and connected it shouldn't affect the ecu.
  8. Listen to Phil_1985. myine does this no matter what additives I use and irrespective of the outside temperature or the state of cleanliness of the egr valve. the Only thing I have found to lower the idle speed until the engine is fully up to temp is turning off thr climate control.
  9. It's more than likely the aircon. Try stating it up from cold and immediately turning off the aircon, should reduce the idle speed to around 7-800 (ish).
  10. If your tyres are balding around the centre line then they are overinflated, underinflation will tend to scrub the outer edges of the tyres . Normski's spot on with the reccommended pressures for the sizes you quote.
  11. Oh god, don't tell me bankers are buying these now. we'll all have to sell up.
  12. I know this may sound daft but, did you replace the battery yourself? if yes then did you re-connect all the positive side leads(there should be 3 I think). I cleaned my egr a while ago and forgot one of the leads and it gives the same result as you're getting.
  13. Mine does it as well from cold, with the a/c on and from cold it idles around 1200. turn the a/c off at cold startup and it should be around 7-900.
  14. The particulate filter is starting to block. The easiest way to clean it is to take the car for a decent run at high revs ( choose 4th gear and stick to 70ish ) stick to the speed limit and go for 50 miles or so. Doing this gets the engine hot enough to burn the soot particles off inside the dpf, The vsc light should extinguish itself when the particulate level falls to an acceptable level.
  15. looking at the pics in the link Mark, I'm pretty certain that the hooks fitted in my 09 are different and 'curl' over the top of the carpet more, try some of the breakers and see if they have any off a later model. For the cost it might cure it for you.
  16. If it's just a single key mark across the door skin, then you would need to have the whole panel repainted. For that I would have thought somewhere around £60 -£80. the door shouldn't need to come off but , you would need to leave the car with them for a couple of days. the work would take maybe an afternoon but then the paint needs to be left to dry and harden thoroughly hence the couple of days.
  17. Hi Mark, I drive an 09 plate 220d. As C2ESH said, for comfort, quietness and spec level that comes as standard you will not beat it. There are or can be some problems with them just as there can be with any make. No the mpg figures aren't the best for an oil burner but apart from that not really any different from the Germans in terms of running costs. If you decide to buy one, get the best you can with the best service history you can and remember that the "220"d stopped either '09 or '59 and was replaced by the 200d which I think was a detuned version opf the same power unit. I can say that if you do go for one of these, you'll enjoy driving it, get out feeling as fresh as when you got in, and you won't be surrounded by lookalikes.
  18. Check the footwell carpets aren't wet as that is a common cause of condensation. Every time you get in the car in wet weather or after washing the outside you are putting quite a lot of moisture down there and it takes a while with the heater on hot and directed down to remove it.
  19. Turn th a/c off until the engine is up to temp. engine revs drop to tick over when you do this. ( at least mine does )
  20. you can get better mpg from a diesel jaguar, and that's saying something.
  21. You get about the same as me for a very similar journey. mine was serviced in july and I don't use additives.
