  1. "This car definitely encourages a sedate/stately driving style" Indeed, but burying your foot in the carpet on a quiet straight road with no junctions is an interesting experience too....don't worry, it won't rev over 6k, you have to try it at least once...
  2. No, unfortunately doesn't use the touchscreen, comes with a RF remote. But the display is perfect, the garmin unit sits in the boot over the original GPS unit, haven't looked closely at how it is wired in. There's a switch on the dash to go between GPS and Lexus input
  3. My car has a Garmin GPS fitted that uses the display, so it is possible to have it display a different source
  4. Very nice, I had a wheel bearing go, that might be your humming noise?
  5. The only time I have ever seen my VSC warning on the display is after having the battery disconnected. Odd things apparently happen when the battery is dying, might be an idea to check the battery connections or try another battery. Although you would think a battery problem would show up cranking the car, this is appears to not always the case....
  6. I think I read somewhere if it's the 60k 6 years cycle, then the water pump is changed every 2nd cycle. For 10 years, 100k, its every time. The only failure I ever read about was supposedly a seized pump that destroyed the belt. My belt looked like a dirty new belt when I had it changed, perfect condition
  7. I am maybe being too cautious, but I don't start the car until the wheel stops moving, as the starter motor load drops the voltage, and I don't like the idea of running the motors on a lower voltage
  8. I suspect the LS400 Mk4 is the best of the best, mine was 400 odd miles away, LPG, fancy suspension, colour I wanted, bought hours after it appeared on Ebay, it was just what I was looking for, so hit buy it now and wasn't disappointed (not that I'm recommending this way of buying a car....)
  9. Treat yourself to a 400 Mk4 with LPG! and just laugh if it gets a wee scrape or dunt. That's what I'm happy with anyway!
  10. Clear indicators and side lights look cool, for sure. Bronze tint on the side back windows?
  11. You will see it if you take a wheel off, There will be a thin wire going to the brakes for the wear sensor (if its still there) and another going to the sensor, in at the hub.
  12. You will love it. Every time I drive mine I'm amazed I have such an awesome car
  13. The sensor I'm pretty sure bolts into a hole in the hub, and gets readings from a notched plate that turns with the wheel. Maybe try cleaning/ reseating the connectors to the sensors?
  14. My LS400 Mk4 on LPG returns 21 (calculated) long term. That's with a fair bit of motorway and dual carriageway driving. I can get an indicated 30 if I fill up at a motorway service station and cruise sensibly, but the indicated MPG is what I would be getting from petrol, not what I actually get on LPG
  15. Sounds a bit difficult, but I read somewhere that if you fill the pipe with fine dry sand, it can be bent without kinking
  16. 3) The way I understand LPG is that, with today's gas prices, you are unlikely to recover the installation costs for a considerable time, ie many many thousands of miles (personally, I would like to spend less on petrol, however, I'm yet to be convinced about LPG...). The trick is to buy one already converted!
  17. I think the likely point of failure is the water pump bearing, before the cam belt. Of course it would be daft to change the pump and not do the idlers, tensioner and belt
  18. Neither of my cars had the engine management light on with LPG. I suspect it's the sign of a badly set up system
  19. I meant 5mm in total. There was an occasional knock if you went over a bump with just the right amount of cornering, the removed arm's bush has a deep split in it, but otherwise looked in good condition
  20. Lower front ball joints, creaking when turning and when the suspension moves up/down for me. They have been leaking, I poked a hole in the rubber with a spike and squirted in some 3 in 1 oil, from an aerosol with the tube on it. One side has since started up again. I had the top ball joint off while I was fitting a new bottom strut, and didn't detect any slack on the bottom ball joint
  21. Jeremy, Just done the stop go reverse test and my observer tells me the side Iv'e done is not moving and the other side is def. moving. What sort of mileage on your car?
  22. Have an assistant put the car in D, roll forward a bit, and then brake, then R, roll back a bit, and brake. You watch the gap between the tyre and the body. I have only done one side so far, haven't had the chance to check as above as yet. Still got a bit of a pull to the side on light braking, but then its straight on continued heavier braking
  23. A very messy way of getting the old ones out is to burn out the rubber and hacksaw the sleeve...
