  1. You are not the first on here to have that problem, and I doubt the last...
  2. I'm very suprised about this, I can see it if the charger was a dumb old fast charger, but I would not have expected a CTEC to cause any damage, I doubt it could supply much of a maximum current in any event, although it does seem to be to much of a coincidence. I have a CTEC charger on my motorhome, linked to a solar panel, the car and domestic battery , so it's entirely possible that the car battery could be receiving a charge when I start the engine, and that would surely be part of the design of the thing.
  3. A visual check on fuses is worth doing, but just because they look alright, doesn't mean they are. Best to check them with a testlight, or perhaps an auto electrician could tell you if power is getting to the amp
  4. My understanding is the 430 cooler is inside the radiator, and has been known to corrode, thus mixing engine coolant with trans. fluid, and trashing the transmission. Fitting an external cooler avoids this possibility, sounds like a worthwhile mod to me....
  5. sorry Mark, couldn't resist. do you have a separate power amp under the seat, as the 400? My point being it's not necessarily the head unit in the dash that has the problem. Could be worth wiggling connectors
  6. Just on general terms, that does sound like a power amp failure. Another of the things that 430's suffer from that 400's dont!?
  7. From plexus914's link :- "never leave your foot on the brake pedal after you have used the brakes hard" Which in an automatic left in "D" when we stop, we do all the time! I now give myself an extra metre of stopping distance and let the car creep a bit at lights, so the pads aren't clamped on the same bit of disk all the time
  8. If they said you could use your existing keys they are presumably assuming the lock or barrel from your existing steering column can be used. I have no idea how a 430 steering column is put together, but I've changed a few on older cars, even cutting a slot in sheer-off security bolts
  9. I had a Mk2 with a single point system and my current Mk4 is multipoint. As a technical type, I appreciate that the multipoint is, well, more technical and precise. The single point worked fine, except when my plug leads started to go, and the plastic manifold kept blowing up, needing removed and glued back together a few times. There is apparently a nice big space in front of the wheel arch for the vaporisor
  10. My own belt, and any pictures I've seen, look brand new after 100k miles. Changing the water pump and idlers is best done at the same time, but personally I would't worry overmuch by being a few thousand miles over the 100k, or even 10's of thousands
  11. Addictive, yes, Every time I get in it, I marvel that I have one of the best engineered and built cars on the planet. Traffic queues, missed turnings, whatever, I don't care, I'm cruising in quiet and comfort. I've said I want to be buried in it, and I'm only half kidding
  12. Very nice Rudy, If my LS was to break, (which isn't likely...) one of those in an estate would do nicely
  13. Sounds like it must be coming from the transmission, if it starts when you go from N to D? Perhaps check the trans. fluid level
  14. Also with a tube on the spray can you could sneak it past the glass and give everything in the mirror housing a good lubricating- no dismantling!
  15. Parrot kit is the way to go, although there are other similar type kits available
  16. If your just planing on running trailer lights, I would think a feed off the aerial would be fine. I suspect the 25amp feed is to cover a caravan fridge, perhaps electric braking, etc. I would change the fuse for something just enough to cover the normal indicator lights
  17. How does that work for them, as batteries have a finite life. Maybe they expect most customer to loose receipt or change car. Maybe it's not lifetime, but I know they have replace 2 batteries for me now, perhaps 1-2 years old
  18. Costco do a lifetime guarantee, which they have honored for me twice (different batteries) they sell Bosch
  19. Wet and dry works, 1200 grit and T-cut, then polish, though I suspect the professional guy will get a better result
  20. I have always wanted to fit 2 of these:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281198705752?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  21. More confirmation that a dodgy battery can cause lots of odd problems and yet still start the car, odd, but keeps coming up in the forum
  22. From browsing years of posts, the belt only breaks if the pump seizes, which I think would only happen if the wrong coolant is used. I'm going with 100k miles or 10 years, change the pump and belt, and I suspect the belt will look new
