  1. Hi Ishaq, What mileage has your car done ? Mine has 85k , perhaps your engine could do with a engine oil flush before the oil change I only say this because that's what was done when I had my car serviced .....just a thought , it sounds like the oil is a bit slow to circulate around the engine, I could be wrong of course ( would not be the first time ! ) does not sound like a big problem though ... I think you get quite a bit of tappitt noise if there is bad oil circulation ....might be worth keeping a eye on or maybe a ear lol, Allan
  2. You think smart cars are bad ? Have you ever seen a G Wizz car after a crash , they disintegrate !!!!! Should never be on the roads .....they are not crash tested at all. Allan
  3. That's the difference between mechanics and fitters which we seem to get mostly these days, fitters just don't or can't repair things these days !!!!
  4. The reason they seize is lack of good maintainence, as noo bie 's advice in another post, remove slide pins every 6 months and lubricate, it does not take long to do, I replaced discs and pads on my is 250 today greased the pins re-assembled ... Total time 3hrs for both fronts including painting the calipers, this was done on the road outside my house ! So I saved myself a few bob and the job was done correctly . Bet the dealer mechanic would not have removed slide pins cleaned them , then lubed them.
  5. was it that badly damaged that it disintegrated, I can't see it either ! Allan
  6. Hi Roald, regarding the cam belt, if its the same as is200 it needs changing 60k or 5years whichever is soonest, then every 5 years or 60k, if you have no history on the car ......do it as soon as possible or risk a recked engine !!!!! hope this helps, Allan
  7. Lexus Edinburgh , front and back discs including pads postage £298.00 ,........from eBay Allan
  8. Thanks Tony for replying, a guy came into my work today with the exact same car, dark blue on a 58 plate so we got chatting about his car, between yourself and this other guy you have sold me on the benefits of hybrids , he could not praise his car enough. ...telling me he would never consider any other car now !!! So there you go, from a smart alec reply from me to liking the 450 in a few words.....might put it on my next car to get.....all the best , Allan
  9. Just to add to that list, spark plugs should be changed.. Quite expensive to do I believe. Allan
  10. If anybody is interested, the valves are hydraulic , that's why they are so quiet, just make sure you use descent oil in the engine and change it regularly .... Allan
  11. Hi tony, no worries , what car is it ? How old is it ?It's listening to that prat clarkson makes us ignorant of what the technology can offer these days , not many cars can reach that many miles with no probs, glad you love it so much cos' that's what a good reliable car deserves.... Allan
  12. Dunsta bubble June the 8th is looking good for me, makes a change for me to have a meet on my weekend off, keep my fingers crossed nothing changes in the next 4 weeks. Allan
  13. Some of us are so bored !!!!!!!!! But surely this all still applies today for any new members that might be thinking of buying a car and as you say it would have been nice to know the outcome....perhaps he bought a Beemer !
  14. Fair comment, I always thought the battery's needed replacing after 5 years or so at a horrendous price ,is this not so ? Perhaps I and a few other owners need educating on these hybrid vehicles, sounds like they are not so bad eh! You put me in my place anyway...... Allan
  15. My advice for what it's worth is walk away and get your grand back look for another car , from what I've read on this forum the 220d is not that reliable anyway, get yourself a 250 with proper history... There are plenty about , I know it's grief to keep looking but it will be worth it in the long run, I looked at quite a few before settling on the one I got. I'm wondering how reliable lexus history is anyway given some horror stories on this forum !!!!!!!! Take your time and get the car you want . Allan
  16. Hi bobby, I drive a truck all day mainly in the south of the uk and yes I have noticed a increase in the number of lexus driving around, people must have sussed out what a lovely car they are ! Hope it doesn't get as common as the BMW and Audi oh and the mercs, I think maybe Toyota would be quite pleased though !!!!!!
  17. Got mine for nothing on a porche 924 I bought 21 years ago, the plate is now worth approx £900. I sold the car for £250 !!! Mind you it's cost me about £ 360 In transfer fees over the years. Still a good investment I think. Allan
  18. I've been waiting a week now and not heard anything from dvla, of course I could have put my plate on retention but that would mean paying an extra £25.00 .....sending my log book off twice ! I know I drive a lexus but it does not mean I'm made of money !!! Plus I'm a tight arse ,lol , allan
  19. nothing wrong with private plates, just the hassle of transfer when you change your car, used to be easy when the DVLA had local offices now they have closed them all everything goes to Swansea and that takes time....... I used to go to Boreham wood office they did it while I waited about 10 mins, now it takes anything up to a month !!! its what they call progress I believe, that means you cant get rid of you old car till the transfer is complete , Allan
  20. Does anybody know if the valves on the v6 2.5 are hydraulic, shims, or nut and bolt ???? when I had my car serviced ,part of the service was to check the valve clearances , when I read the after service report it said the clearance was checked using a stethoscope !!! this must mean valves are hydraulic ,yes or no, I'm curious, Allan
  21. are you all aware that Lexus dealers sell parts on ebay !!!!, I have never had any dodgy stuff from ebay , get real people... ebay is just a online shopping plaza like brent cross or lake side.... just check the seller out before you buy. Allan
  22. hi tynhead, welcome to lexus, the is200 is a brilliant car, I had mine for just over 8 years and I loved driving it, very reliable car not to expensive to run .... look after your car and it will look after you ! one thing I would add is you might have to get some winter tyres or a set of snow chains cos my is 200 was really crap in the snow. enjoy, Allan
  23. I think you will find 245 is the width , 45 is the height in percentage , 17 is the wheel size , correct me if I'm wrong,.....Allan
  24. great news on the mot, perhaps you can start enjoying your motor a bit more now, Allan
