  1. torque wrench should always be used for tightening wheel nuts, saves cracking your alloys or stretching the wheel studs ! Allan
  2. Gutted for you Stuart, its so wrong that you have got to pay for some other idiots mistake, like the others I would maybe go for SCC,....But if the guy has no money there seems little point in doing that because that would cost more money out of your pocket....... Hope his bike was bent more than your lovely Lex !!!! Allan
  3. I think that I have been misunderstood , my point is that it is a known fault with the calipers seizing so surely it SHOULD be part of the service ? It does not take that long to lube the slide pins , Lexus are not the only manufacturer to use this design on the calipers therefore this must happen to other vehicles ? Or do other manufactures lube the pins as part of the service schedule ? I also have had to replace both rear calipers on my 250 , and like John got my calipers at a bargain price from Lexus Sheffield, for less than the price of reconditioned ones, I think Lexus probably ordered in hundreds too many in light of the problem and now they are desperate to unload them !!!!..... Allan
  4. if the caliper pins are lubricated as part of the service this would not happen surely ?.... Allan
  5. Ive heard of new engines using a lot of oil but my is200 never used any oil between its yearly service, mileage was 96k when i got rid of it, and i used to give it some stick on many journeys from London to Cornwall ,1ltr per 1000k seems quite a lot ?.... Allan
  6. A loose slide pin on a lexus caliper that must be a first !!! .... I agree with noo bie it is most unlikely to be be slide pin loose, good call on the jack being loose but the jack is on the right hand side of boot, maybe something fallen down by the spare wheel in the boot.... Allan
  7. Defiantly agree with normski, in fact it was noobie's guide that inspired me to do this job myself after being quoted £570.00 to replace discs and pads on my car, in fact I found one of the rear calipers was seized solid and beyond repair, the service agent never mentioned that to me at the service ! So I decided to replace both rear calipers all four discs and pads, time taken in total approx 4hours and I know the job has been done properly, also saved myself about £300. Labour... Well worth looking at this guide, thanks noo bie....... Allan
  8. Nice to have something different tho David and you can smile at the cost !...... Allan
  9. hi muzy, cost of a full service is between £200/ 300 depending on if anything extra has to be done ie: brake fluid change approx £70, coolant change approx £80 to £100... discs and pads cost is anywhere up to £200 per corner depending where you go to have it done ,(not to hard to do yourself ) hope this is of help to you and others..... Allan
  10. i'll agree with that brakes need bleeding properly, the clips holding the pads will not make a scrap of difference and i doubt that they cost £75 !!!!!!!! new rear calipers from Lexus only cost £99.00 each
  11. hi lucasz, I just got rid of my is200 and bought a is250, tell you what i'm missing my is200 so much it is a brilliant car you are going to love it, but remember look after it well and it will look after you, you have chosen well and got yourself a future collectable, I think anyway..... Allan
  12. nice to put faces to the names and have a natter about our cars ,till next time...... Allan
  13. See ya there..... Allan
  14. Eric don't panic mate, the clutch is not a massive job, ( gearbox out though ) is the judder that bad ? Reading some of the posts on the forum it is something you can learn to live with, have you tried giving afew more revs when pulling away ? I was reading that this can help , do you know a nice friendly mechanic who knows his business that can maybe drive the car and give his opinion ? .....I did start to get a judder on my is200 about a year or more ago which had me worried but it never got any worse and like others have said you do learn to live with it , have you tried slipping the clutch a bit to maybe clean the clutch plate slightly ? If after doing this it improves then it would confirm that it is the clutch rather than anything else...... Allan
  15. Eric try a search on this forum for judder when pulling away , there are lots of posts on this and some cures involving slipping the clutch a lot ! ..... Allan
  16. Another thought is gearbox mounting broken or propshaft bolts loose.... I'll keep thinking for you mate, hard to diagnose without trying it ..... Allan
  17. Are the rest of the gears smooth when you change up /down the box ? Also can you change down into 1st gear ok , if you can and the rest of the gears are smooth I would still suspect the clutch plate or flywheel worn , maybe the springs on the clutch plate have weakened ..... Allan
  18. Eric , when you say 1st gear is jumpy and sluggish what exactly do you mean ? I used to get a bit of judder on my is200 but the gear changes were smooth, are you sure it's not a worn clutch.... Allan
  19. The Lexus dealer reputation is fading I think !?... We are hearing more bad dealer stories each week. Come on Lexus get your act together..... Allan
  20. Another thought is maybe alternater bearings... Allan
  21. Also check the drive belts for the power steering pump... Allan
  22. Have you tried car breakers ? Have a look on eBay there are a few breakers on there with is250s.... Allan
