  1. 'El Reg' has been the Private Eye of the IT business for several decades
  2. Same here but costlier because inner London
  3. Well far be it from me to ***** on this love parade but where I am, it's the cars holding the bike riders up. YMMV! 🤣
  4. Top man! Come on over to LFGSS, you'll get more love for your bike riding there!
  5. Thank you! I found a promising-looking one, of correct mileage for age, and decent spec. I cannot be without the Mark Levinson sounds! And as you say, priced lower than the hybrid.
  6. How then, gentlemen, do you rate the GS250? I do like this powerplant in my IS250 but with age the car overall has become...rather floppy and wrinkly. I imagine it is rather slower than the IS because heavier but that's not of first importance — the 'feel' is the thing.
  7. PM will pay him out by blocking his advancement in UK politics
  8. Unlikely. He will be fired in the pre-recess reshuffle and will be off to Silicon Valley, where he will join Sir Clegg in making some real money.
  9. Thank you for derailing this dull thread
  10. Saw this car again, parked in the same neighbourhood — it has been repaired
  11. I just revisited this thread and would like to thank @doog442 for his even-tempered and stalwart defence of common sense and decent behaviour among road users of every kind. Like all of us here, I enjoy driving my Lexus, but I am in the minority I think in riding a bike, a lot, in London and its environs. As a driver, I appreciate good manners and good judgement by other road users. As a bike rider, it makes or mars my day — and I live in hope it will not destroy it. I write as one who has held a driving licence and used it for more than 50 years — and, of course, ridden a bicycle for even longer. I hope to be able to do both for a good few years more. The guy on the bike in front of you is another human like you. Just take your foot off the gas. Be cool, be nice. It's not a problem.
  12. As I understand it, the high-pressure fuelling components of 2006/7 cars are prone to internal corrosion when fed with fuel that has a higher moisture content. In later cars, these components were improved by the addition of an internal anti-corrosion coating. My assumption — and I admit it is an assumption — is that when the fuel system of my car was rebuilt, these later parts were used. @Texas if it would be helpful, I can look out the the very long invoice with part numbers. PM me if you need to know this. Referring the sunroof issue, the leakage of water into the electronics can occur when the drain from the sunroof surround gets blocked with crud. Unsurprisingly, rodding this drain through is not a scheduled service item.
  13. Does your car have a sunroof? This seems a bizarre question but my IS250 suffered from a similar series of problems to those described in this thread (though I have not followed it in detail). The problem was finally traced to leakage of water from the sunroof surround into the electronics — extremely rare it appears, not least because so few IS250 have a sunroof (OK moonroof). And yes, the cost to fix the problem was nearing £4000. However this did include, possibly factitiously, new fuelling components, so I can now use E10 fuel with no qualm. It was cheaper than scrapping the car and buying a new Toyota Corolla.
  14. I've had lots of experience with Lexus Edgware Road and feel that their lead tech Sunil probably knows my IS250 better than any other of his customers' cars. It was after all occupying a berth in their workshop for three months in 2020! They dealt with a deep-seated problem that proved very costly, but their customer-service chap Ash prevailed on Lexus GB to supply the extremely costly replacement parts at deep discount (not least because the car has a a GU reg and is a former in-house car). They have deep expertise but of course are motivated to monetize their customer relationships so you have to watch out for suggestions for possibly factitious extra work. Labour rate is not cheap but they do know their stuff. And they are very civil, it hardly needs be added.
  15. I was not aware of this either but my IS250 (full LSH) does just qualify. I shall make enquiries. Thanks for the heads-up!
  16. An outbreak of good sense. The 'new' Highway Code essentially says: 'Be a decent human being when using the road'. Seriously, it's worth trying.
  17. Indeed very interesting! Like you a long-term owner of the IS250, I find myself distracted by the allure of the 250C. It would be something a return to days of yore when as a young man I used and toured extensively a Peugeot 304 Cabriolet. It was used for all sorts — eg to fetch a dozen or so 4m lengths of floorboards resting on the windscreen rail; a decent load of bagged manure in the capacious boot; and a race bike that with the wheels off would fit across the rear parcels shelf (no passenger seats). I would not dream of so abusing a Lexus IS250C however. 😅
  18. That's all very well but those first two places are quite weird
  19. Ah, premium fuel. Here we go again! Can we use E10 petrol in our early-build IS250 cars? Lexus's advisory says no. I say yes, leastways in my own case because the entire fuel system at the top of the engine has been replaced with new, which has an anti-corrosion internal coating. So far, so good. As to lack of power — phooey!
