  1. Please see the attached picture Now my question is, when I slid this jack from the front and under the cross member jacking point in the previous picture. Once the car starts to lift, won't the downward force of the car make the jack slip out of place and push it out since the wheels are free moving? Or are the wheels supposed to be free moving so the jack can adjust it's position with load and arching of the cart? thanks.
  2. What millage does manual state for gear oil change and differential oil change in UK/Europe where conditions are different.
  3. Thanks. To confirm the jacking point, in the attached picture, is the yellow circle the jacking point ? It looks like where the manual says but .... it doesn't look like that strong... is it ? Also once you jack up and place the jack stands under the pinch weld, where do you place the jack itself as a safety ... say if you are changing oil.
  4. I am thinking of getting this: http://www.sgs-engineering.com/garage-equipment/trolley-jacks/tja25-aluminium-trolley-jack Max height of jack when not up (out of box ) is 144mm. It has a max lift of 460mm. Question: when I slide the jack from front under cross member... won't the jack slip out when jacking? ... Like jack will have downward force on it and the wheels of the jack face the front... Not sure if I am explainin my concerns right...
  5. I also agree with Steve. No combustion happening and battery seems OK. Don't do too many cranks. Leave it. I would pull the spark plugs and check the air filter as well. Get OBD tool and see if it says anything.
  6. OK. But is it the correct way to jack the car by sliding the jack from the front or does one have to do it from the side... I don't know how one can get access to the cross member from the side. Any example you have of a very low profile trolly jack ? Which do you use ? The objective is to jack up the car from the front cross member so both tyres get lifted up. then use jack stands below pinch weld. Thus we rule out jacking it from one side by pinch weld. Which means we are only left with cross member.
  7. I have discussed something similar before but this time it's a different question. Jacking car from the front. Now there is a spot just after the oil filter and before the oil pan. there is a shield sort of. I think it's the cross member ?? Anyway... I thought to jack up a lexis one would slide the floor jack from the front I. e. when you stand looking at the vehicle from bonnet. And then use the previously mentioned point and jack up the car. this will raise the whole car from the front. However this leads to two questions -Floor jack, will it slide under all the way there and will I be able to pump up the jack? -Contacted a floor jack manufacturer and he said floor jacks are meant to be used from the side and is not meant to slide under the vehicle from the front... if so then how would one jack up a car and put jack stands under the pinch weld? Since he said pinch weld is used for jacking the car up...
  8. I would suggest leave the factory as is. add a subwoofer to your system in the trunk. This way you reduce the bass from the stereo which you give you more head room before distortion comes in. If you are into audio system like me then first use an oscope and play test tone and narrow done which frequency causes distortion. if it's low (<60 Hz)then you need a subwoofer 12inch and my suggestion will work good. If it's 100hz or less 10inch. Else you need to diagnose further. I am keeping it short and skipped a lot of details.
  9. kodiak Sky thanks. That is indeed a very kind offer. I contacted lexus eBay and they said they can list it for me to purchase. Which means they can post it to me.
  10. made a call to lexus Edinburgh. Part number is 6921753011-E3. Comes painted. 10.38. They don't ship it so I will need to collect it...
  11. There is a tab... sorry not a hinge. When it broke I couldn't get it to seat properly and there was a gap. Easy to get off as well. I made a pseudo tab using epoxy. it's holding up but there is still a gap. Strange why lexis went with something like this fragile. It's meant to be seated and sealed or does driver side a little gap ? Water ingress worries me that it will get rusted. Or I shouldnt worry and move on ?
  12. Today the car keys stopped working possibly due to dead batteries so I had to use the key mechanically. When I popped the cover (I don't know what it is called) I couldn't put it back on. I noticed one of the hinges broke off. I can't find the broken hinge. Is this cover available from lexis for 4T5 color ? Hoe much does it cost ? Or should I improvise and use epoxy to make a hinge ?
  13. I was hoping that as well but the guy said he won't touch it. .. Said there chip marks so get the whole thing done. I mean he is right there but if I am painting the whole thing I am doing it to lexus spec and nothing less. His other valid point was that the paint is not off the shelf and is expensive. so buying just for touch up won't do him good and I think that's his reason. He won't make money off me just for "smart repair". My other option is to first get some paint then find a local to do the touch up job. I don't know the quality of that can be better than my own hand... not saying I have done this before... just I am willing to put more elbow grease and spend lots of time. But that can either end in pro work or a disaster. I'LL Google and see if I can find a professorial who does quality work and convince him to get it repaired.
  14. Showed it to a "smart repair" and he said he won't do a smart repair and do the whole bumper for 200. If I am doing the whole bumper personally I would prefer it done to lexus standards. So my best option now is to try what I can do myself and if it looks ugly get the whole thing done when I feel in a rich mood. And I don't feel that. Also found out 4T5 paint isn't available from Halford.... the smart repair shop said the paint isn't off the shelf...
  15. pictures attached. The first one I can put my finger inside the damaged area. picture doesn't show it at night time. second picture shows the damage which is like a damaged done using a hacksaw.
  16. Crap... damaged it with a kerb Can't sleep anymore because of it. I want to fix it myself as it will help me relax. Should I sand it, then use the Halford David Isopon bumper filler, prime it and then paint it? Can I find rattle can paint that can match the color of the car ? does Halford custom make can paint ?
  17. dave1 No offense took place, ever. A simple quote was made after days of making purchase that triggered an alarm. Insurance company confirmed to me they have no way of knowing if anyone has committed any offense. Reason IS DVLA due to privacy regulations do not share any information with insurers (thankfully). I know someone who has a uk provisional license and has 3 year no claim bonus and had even a tracker fitted the first time he got insurance. He took test once and failed badly. Joke and a half. ha. Honestly I do not see much difference between insurance and extortion. That's another topic.
  18. EU license belongs to better half. It does not come with paper part. EU license number is different than DVLA standard and does not work on their website. Tip: if you want to trouble anyone, get a quote on their name and put a big offense. Let them sort it out. Keep on doing it till the break. Works good if it's a non UK license. I am sure it increases premium for future as well given insurance companies want to make money by hook or crook.
  19. The catch is while I have a full UK, the "offending license" is an EU and does not connect to DVLA database. There is no records on the system for this license. How on earth does anyone deal with that? The only way is to exchange the EU license with a UK one but that will take months. And I will be charged the premium in a week... I know when money is taken away it never comes back, at least easily. Admiral Group is the one I went with for multi car.
  20. The subject line was to vent my anger :) I am learning a lot about UK car insurance how it is not connected with any system and how easy it is to drive without insurance, forever. But I won't discuss that here just now. My problem is ; I got insurance and paid in full for it. days later I get an email saying it increased and I have to pay x amount in a week due to motoring offense. Thing is there is no motoring offense. Better half for some knowledge sake wanted to check the effect of motoring offense so just got an online quote. This alerted our insurance company and they put the premium. A hefty premium. I tried to clear it up with insurance company that a quote is a quote and one changes things just to see effects. one might want to buy a car but would change mind due to insurance. and to know insurance one needs quote. But nah... talking to a wall. I personally think we let these insurance companies off too much. I am so much disappointed after making 5 calls now that I do not have the energy even to explain things here . Has anyone here dealt with such situation ?
  21. I see cross drilled rotors... is that ISF? If not then why cross drill why not stock ? I am tempted to get ISF style body kit but someone said to me to earn more and get a real ISF... :)
  22. Can't light sand and spray brush take away that ? I would say it would cost about a 100 from a local. DIY you need air compressor, air brush, paint and lacquer. One of these days I am going to buy a compressor and give it a go.
