  1. I can't find a link on how you guys checked mot with millage. all I can see is the status.
  2. When changing brake pads do we need to change the squeal plates (I don't know what they are called... I am referring to the two metal shim on the outer side of each pad. Do these shims comes with the brake pads from lexus or does one need to purchase them separately ?
  3. I see..OK. I have seen very old cars in other countries with stock exhaust with no rust. So salt and water does it. I guess one tip I would like to share is people should crawl under their car when the sun is out and they have a few minutes to spare. If one suspects a weak or broken hanger they should get it fixed. last year I evaded 290 pound (non oem) charge on one of my car when I noticed the tail pipe hanger was corroded. surely it broke few days later. I made a clamp by buying parts from b&q. Now I am sure other hangers will go the same way but I can evade the expense if I keep at it till the whole car falls off. I suspect cracks and holes emarge after hanger gives in.... just my assumption.
  4. oh so you went there and saw the car ? How is it BTW ? And how on earth one does so many miles in such a short time frame? Is it worn out car? did it get two or more oil changes per year or something ? ...thanks.
  5. Hmm... Why do exhaust fall off only in the UK (and maybe europe). How to slow the process ?
  6. the pcb picture you posed, is that behind the marked red area or is it on the other side? Have you tried holding this marked red plastic in light ? I am wondering if this is infra filter. The silicon gel is the diffuser assembly i am guessing now.
  7. Where is the sensor? I cannot understand where the silicone pad sits. :( Is the silicone pad flexible ? Is it translucent? Just for someone's reference, replacing the chip will not do any good. It's most probably a micro controller and a new one from Farnell will not have any code on it to function. Good to know you made it work.
  8. I am confused on how this thing sits... I am going to ask daft questions... Is this the rear view mirror assembly ? That shouldn't have a rain sensor should it ? Isn't that auto dimming mirror assembly or is it a speared box ? I am going to visually see what my car has tomorrow. There has to be a lens.
  9. Thanks. Unfortunately the pic isn't showing the markings. I am interested in knowing what the big chip is. It looks like a microprocessor or a micro controller given it has a crystal near by. Do you have a picture of the other side as well? I cannot see any lense...
  10. can you please post pictures of the pcb in more detail. I wish to see marking on the chips. Trying to make sense of how all this work's. Thanks.
  11. can you send some pictures? Rain sensor works by refraction of infra red light. So the diode position is vital as the light refraction changes with water droplet.
  12. Hi How does one check the water level ? I can't see it through the white plastic. The battery I have is not sealed and is traditional exide lead acid battery. I will top it up with tesCo de ionised water.
  13. to end this, car can be lowered on bricks. or one can use bottle jack under control arm.
  14. I always wondered if one can go to scrap yard and take one out from a car and use that.... will motor hog or alike do that/ allow it ?
  15. I am going to ask a general question. Not specific to Lexus in fact I want to replace control arms on my mazda3. I am going to raise the car from cross member center and place jack stands under pinch weld. Now I just learned that one needs to load the suspension before tightening the control arm. So that it rotates in its natural place. If I tighten them with the front of the car in air, it will not be in the normal position and when I bring it to tarmac, the rubber bush will stay twisted. First bump or pot hole will break the bush again. Now if I lower the car to ground, my worry is that there will be not enough clearance for me to go under the car and tighten the bolts. How does one do this job ? tools I have floor jack, bottle jack, jack stands, breaker bar 26inch (inthink), standard tools and hammers. Thanks for input.
  16. I think there is some seal not placed properly or headlight is cracked. I would take it out. If not properly done, it will rust the reflector. I think there will be a pool of water at the bottom. anyone know if these lights are sealed all the way or is there a breather hole?
  17. Hi Ishaq One tip I can give is look for rubber seals and cracks. You can use a hair dryer to make it dry but that doesn't solve the issue coming back again. carefuel with the dryer as not to get carried away. use your hand to control the temperature. Also turn the beams on full. How bad is it btw? I wouldn't try baking and sealing headlight unless I am OK with buying a new one. It's one of those things that go wrong even with practise.
  18. thanks again. Two more questions :) Do I need to use a piece of wood between the saddle and the cross member to avoid any damage or marks ? Notice the jack I have , the saddle has rubber in the middle but has claws around it. The other question, is there no way to jam the front wheels? sounds too scary relying on chocks only. I use chocks from Halford. They are not that impressive compared to the big tyres of lexis.
  19. OK got it. I don't have any 100% flat ground anywhere near unless tesco car park... There is slight slant not seen by eyes but if I lower the hand brake in neutral geat the car moves forward. Is that not acceptable if I chock both the wheels?
