  1. mine turns 3 on the 17th, i'm not bothering extending the warranty, fingers crossed I won't regret that decision.
  2. any good podcast recommendations? I've just finished Mafia from audioboom, very good.
  3. thanks for the advice, i'll try the suggestions, and test with my lads iphone, both me and wife has android so maybe an issue with that. Just found out you can also download for offline playback so will try that as well.
  4. Hi, Recently signed up for spotify on my phone and I have changed to streaming quality to the highest settings and through my headphones (Good quality, shure SE535) it sounds great. I get into the car however (connected via bluetooth), it sounds dreadful. Streaming of music stored on my phone is slightly better, not great however music direct via usb sounds as I'd expect. Anybody know if there any settings that could be changed either on my phone or on the car? I guess streaming via the Aux would solve it but don't really want to mess around with cables if it can be avoided. Thanks is advance, Darren.
  5. We have just changed out 05 plate RX400h, zero issues with the hybrid system. Before I bought I researched on the toyota forums. They hybrid systems are pretty much bullet proof, loads of prius's with 250,000 miles plus and zero hybrid issues. The only thing issues I could find, (I again i think still rare), were on the first generation GS450h. I don't really like Eco mode as it does make the car feel a little 'all or nothing' (ie, you do <75% throttle and it accelerates like a milk float, you give it >75% and nothing for a second or so while the engine spins up, then the car does the metaphorical equivalent of dropping the clutch like a chav in a pimped up corsa on a tescos carpark). I generally just leave it in normal, if I'm on a busy dual carriage way with a lot of speed fluctuations I will occasionally switch to sport, or maybe the odd good quiet road. Once you get you used to the car, you see how it does a lot to protect the battery, it rarely switchs to EV mode in the cold of winter and doesn't seem to charge discharge the battery as much during longer journeys (you will notice a drop in MPG's as well, then on a nice hot day it will seems to sit happily for over a mile on the battery.
  6. I had the setting activated by the dealer, didn't charge me. Just looked at the carista app. Does anyone have it. I would be really interested to know if i can enable mirror tilting in reverse (website seems to suggest you can, but my understanding is that this is only possible with memory seats (which I don't have).
  7. I have just literally had massive clear out, as had so much stuff, I can't believe how much I acquired over the years. While nothing as exciting as a rally car, as a poor student and only affording an old hand me down rover metro and the the massive upgrade to an old rover 200!, I had to do a hell of a lot of jobs myself. It's only when the brake disc stuck a second time I though it time to look to see if there is a new best practice and was really shocked to read that copperslip isn't really used anymore, just shims and grease for anti corrosion reasons. Obviously from my experience bring back the old days, I have never had a brake pad seize into the caliper before (i assume it's due to my car only really been used for motorway slogs, so the rear brakes maybe aren't regularly used). EBC Red pads on mine now, i'm hoping they will stop the alloys turning black, time will tell, at £70 a set I hope I'll notice the difference.
  8. Well having done a bit of reading last night, it would seems the number 1 cause for dropped footage is a dodgy SD card, so I'll buy 2 when I order the dash cam. thanks for the recommendation, think I'll go for that. did you hard wire or just plus into the floor level charge point. I thinking of just going into that, it's how I wired the cheapo one on the 400h.
  9. I used Delphi brake grease, apparently copperslip is considered old tech... Hopefully mine won't stick again.
  10. thanks for the feedback and picture, nice neat install. I was put off that one as I have a similar one (recommended on the IS forum) but when I witnessed a Ford Edge not stop for a roundabout, pretty much jumping it, I thought, yay, finally an excuse to the download the footage, and it was missing. Since then I have started downloading bits to check and it seems to regularly drop footage, maybe only about 5%, so think i was unlucky not get the incident. Have you ever checked yours? how well does it work. many thanks, Darren.
  11. Hi, we have just updated our Rx400h to a 2012 450h advance. Loving the step up in refinement. I was going to put a dash cam in, having looked around the web the think ware F770 seems to be the best bet, but thought i'd ask the question here and see if there are any suggestions/recommendation. Main consideration for me is for a stealthy, set and forget system. Thanks, Darren.
  12. I have a ridiculously steep drive (car often wheel spins getting into the garage), and reverse out (reversing downhill) and never get any unusual noises.
  13. When I buy a car, as we have done with the 450 we are picking up Friday, I will pay slightly more / travel further for a full Lexus history as oppose independent. It is generally one of the first items an advert will state as it is a good selling point and some buyers do look for, so will add some, if only very slight value to the car (certainly not enough to justify the extortionate costs). I was planning on changing my IS at about 3 or 4 years old so did main dealer servicing, however now I am planning on keeping until 10+years old, i will switch to local independents. Think it depends on how long you plan to keep the car and how easy a sale you want. Personally opinion (from talking to friends and own experience), I find main dealers are more likely to do unnecessary work. one of my best mates is a mechanic with his own garage. When my Mazda went in for a Main dealer service I got a repair quote for all sorts of things totalling well over £1k. Decided to drive the 60miles to visit my mate, we went round all the items together and found the only thing wrong was a shock absorber that was starting to leak and charged about £60 to change it, nothing else they stated needed repairing. The car happily did another 75,000miles without needing any further repair work. have quite a few other stories from people that are very similar, one at a honda dealer where a bloke was charged for new brakes all round, and they didn't change the disc's as stated. He did get a full refund for the work, but had he not been mechanically minded he'd have never known.
  14. my wifes has just done 102,000miles, we decided to trade in for a 450h rather than paying funding the new timing belt and 100K service (also due to its overall condition as well, she used a pillar in a car park to find out where the front corner was, and a van used the rear quarter as a parking aid, then did one without leaving details). Hopefully you will get plenty of trouble free miles now. Hopefully parking sensor all round will protect hers!!!
  15. Hi just wondering how you got on, did you purchase one in the end. We are just about to change my wife's 400h, and have same budget (she does about 15,000miles per year). we are pretty much set on a pre facelift advance.
  16. I want to retract my earlier 'appalling' statement regarding throttle response think that was a bit harsh. it's not great, i'd say on par with a normal slush box auto.
  17. I have never managed to get it working. My understanding is (and I could be wrong) that the mirroring standard is something like mirrorlink 1.1, and most phones run 1.2 or higher and it's not backwards compatible. I tried with a few phones and never had any joy. I tried with a Sony Xperia Z3, samsung galaxy something, motorola somthing and an Lg google phone. As you can tell by the descriptions I'm not really a technophile though.
  18. I do think the IS300h is under powered. It doesn't to me feel like a 220bhp car, although I have no issue with power delivery and dont feel any change or bump from the electric to ICE. The Main issue for me is throttle response. if you plan a sudden change then using the fake gears to pre rev the engine helps, but quickly pulling out on say a roundabout by punching the pedal seems to take an age. Although not as bad as an Audi A5 CVT... I have worked in Germany for many years, and have had warnings from many a German about the responsibilities when travelling too fast on the autobahn. I believe it to be true, as from multiple sources in various parts of Germany.
  19. A bit bored at work today, so read some info on the Tesla Model 3. Since most on here have a Hybrid that is a similar size wondering what peoples thoughts are, anyone thinking of getting one? Personally wouldn't work for me (as I tend to do infrequent but long journeys), but with a potential range of up to 310miles could be an interesting proposition for a lot of people? Regarding the range I did a quick search, the model S with a 285mile range, is reported by uses as getting around 220miles at prolonged M'Way speeds, so maybe the model 3 might get 250miles on a long journey, if you're brave... Interior looks a bit like a child designed it as well, the lack of dials behind the steering is enough to put me off, looks like a cheap Citroen with an aftermarket ipad installed....!
  20. I learned the hard way with my last car how alloys can stick on. Got a puncture while the car was in a field, about 1/2 mile from a main road. I was very gingerly having to kick the wheel as hard as I could while jacked up on uneven soft ground, panicking the car would fall off the jack, potentially onto me! They don't take them off for a service at main dealers and they corrode on.
  21. haha, I know, god know's how i missed that on the original post! Blonde day!
  22. Hi, I stripped mine down when they seized, all pretty standard and very easy and just like any other car so I'm sure the tutorials for the other cars will help you.
