  1. Incidentally, this ebay listing shows the back of the newer sat nav units should anyone want to compare. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-IS220d-sat-nav-cd-multi-changer-complete-immaculate-condition-2006-2012-/252268709769?hash=item3abc630789:g:sCsAAOSw5dNWjG9A
  2. Yep, you buy the new disc and slot it in. It should do a firmware update as well the first time you load it.
  3. This has become an interesting issue. I also saw mention of crankcase re-breather systems and EGR causing issue, but I thought the main culprit was the fact that direct injection fuel system no long swirl fuel over the valve, which used to clean it? I have seen people debate whether an oil catch tank benefits the car or not. I am not so sure it does myself. Obviously, EGR valves are the devils work and improve the car in many ways with their removal. The videos showing walnut shell blasting are funky. I wonder how someone came up with the idea of using walnut shells to clean engines? The only thing about it is that I wouldn't be happy doing it with the head on the car. The video I saw had a vacuum hose down the bore while it was being done, but surely the shells are still abrasive if left inside? I admit I am tempted to buy a bore scope to see the state of my valves now
  4. I don't think you can buy the rubber seals from Lexus. As far as I know, they sell the entire calliper only since there are no part numbers for the individual parts. This pic shows the components: Also, as stated at the bottom, you need the white, glycol grease when re-inserting the pins.
  5. Yep, I have been told before to put copper grease between the wheel and the hub to prevent galvanic corrosion. Although all my alloys are rusted on the surface. I even had a flat tyre a couple of weeks back, so took it to the tyre shop which took the wheel off and found corrosion along the inner lip. It turns out that the rust had made the surface on the inner lip uneven, so the tyre couldn't seal properly. Never seen alloys rust as badly as the ones on these IS's. If 3 of the pins had grease, but not the 4th, is the rubber seal on that one intact between the calliper and the slider? As for doing it every year, it does appear to need doing regularly. If you service your own car, then yes, it is a pain. However, if a garage does the job, it shouldn't be a big deal to also get them to grease them for you.
  6. 19 ECU's I counted last time I looked I also had a random Check VSC message appear while driving. Stopped, turned car off and on again and the message disappeared. No fault codes logged. That was 6 months ago and nothing has happened since.
  7. Perhaps you want to thank them for answering your last question first?
  8. ahh, now here is the difference. I never said he could get an absolutely perfect car for the price. Finding a 10 year old car with a few little marks or chips would be almost impossible. My car has quite a few stone chips on the front, but I wouldn't generally consider that a problem when buying a second hand car. Having said that, I would expect at least one of the car at the Lexus dealer to be suitable, if not all of them. You also get the added bonus of the years warranty. They are also in the spec that he wanted, so it is definitely worth a look in my humble opinion. I do agree that in general, dark interiors wear a bit better, but I always held the belief of contrast when it came to cars. Dark exterior = light interior and visa versa. Although I did have a black Alfa with a black interior, so there are always exceptions
  9. Did you even read the thread before posting? Two posts above yours, it is mentioned that it is up to £7k. Also, the post above tells you that Lexus Woodford have 4 cars within spec. And yet here you are saying it can't be done? As for interior colour, my 8 year old car has cream leather that is unmarked and unwrinkled. Yes, lighter coloured interiors are more of a pain to keep, but regular feeding and cleaning will keep them looking good.
  10. Hehe, I know what you mean. Try living here and you will see what driving pain is really about. I agree that most car's sat nav's would suffer here, but Google Maps actually does a pretty good job of it.
  11. Yes it is easier to find one without the extras, but I don't think it is necessarily the case that it can't be found with them fitted. When I was looking for mine, I wanted an SE-L with the MM pack fitted specifically. It took longer, but I found what I wanted in the end. I know mine is a diesel, but it didn't cost £6k either.
  12. Full post code searches are more accurate and quicker. What I don't understand is why they weren't implemented in the IS's to start with? As for the navigation itself, I agree it is fine in a lot of situations, but have you tried it around London? Useless. I tested it by setting a route I already knew and it took me on the most ridiculous, roundabout route it could find. Having said that, I would still use it to find somewhere I don't know since I prefer built in systems to handheld devices.
  13. So you are saying that he can't get a SE-L for 6k? So what about the 2 that I linked in my post? That was just after a quick 5 minute search. Also, he does mention that Xenon's and ML stereo would be nice to have, but not essential.
  14. Well then, you are going a long way for just usb I admit that the build in sat nav leaves a lot to be desired, but it is still convenient to use at times.
  15. Why wouldn't he be able to get what he wants for 6k? As long as he doesn't mind the age of the car, what it wrong with the ones I posted?
  16. Doesn't the HDD Sav Nav also have a better screen and full postcode search? Although I agree with Eric that it is not really worth the effort at this point. You need someone who has the updated one to come to you and agree to try a swap
  17. This link shows where the two prongs for getting at the sav nav disc are: Link Used mine when updating my disc, and it would have been a pain of a job without them. As for the aux, Jack is right, just plug and play. Use an Ipod with mine and it sounds alright.
  18. These any good? Silver SE-L Grey SE Grey SE-L The only thing is that they are quite old, but this isn't a problem in itself.
  19. Seems obvious to me. It seems some facelift cars don't have the updated USB Nav fitted. Also, what Jack is wondering is whether a non-USB car can have an updated USB Nav fitted.
  20. Seems not. This is what mine looks like: https://ssli.ebayimg.com/00/s/NDgwWDY0MA==/z/9UgAAOSwJkJWkByJ/$_86.JPG
  21. Well, this is odd. Assuming James that that photo is from your 2007, you have an auto recirculate button whereas I don't? Or is that IS250 only option? Also, do all the HDD nav's have the flat buttons, or did some of the round button ones also have it?
  22. Well, this thread has some useful advice: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/103035-is250-headlight-polishing/#comment-926516 Otherwise, perhaps a headlight polishing kit, for example: http://www.amazon.co.uk/3M-Headlight-Restoration-Discoloured-Headlights/dp/B0078IHJ1K
