  1. Hi,what do you mean by ground at the back? My car sits high at the back, can you say measure how high your car is sat on the back, say from the bottom of the bumper lip to the ground, and i will measure the ride height of mine at the back tomorrow,if your rear ride height is low then the springs could be getting tired.Ive found my car with shopping and people in the back easy to bottom out.Ive 18s on my 400,do you have the same size tyres front and back or wider on the back? Im running the same size tyres all round and have no tyre rub on the back. Whats the off set of your wheels stew? If you have 235/40/18 then the ride height of the car should be the same as standard. At a guess id say your springs are tired. What tyre pressures are you running stew?
  2. Hi there happy motoring Sorry cant help you about the radio, think its different to the mk1 i have.
  3. Yea Greybeard, like you say with the lower profile the tyre does not really get chance to roll so it mantains its grip, does`nt hurt having um wider as well.Like ive been saying over the last few weeks about the car,i wanted to keep it really but if i had not took the gamble with the wheels and had to drive it all standard,i think id have sold the car, really it is money well spent, the cars sat more on the road now when driving, sort of rides flatter, corners better(i have to lock myself in the seat with the seatbelt, seats not very sideways suported) and SO much more nicer to drive. :D :D
  4. Hi,like fluff says check the lamba sensor, they over time lose the top and bottom areas of the scale,on most cars its on the down pipe off the exhaust manifold. When worn they may over fuel the car and that will give you high emissions.
  5. Hi all,as the title says, been speaking to a lexus fitter whos been working for them since the beginning of the lexus age.NOTE anyone whos going to drain and change there auto gearbox oil,ONLY USE LEXUS AUTO TRANSMISSION OIL,he tells me that if you buy any other oil how ever good it is,because some of the old oil will stay in the box, when mixed together it will turn into a sort of gel and damage the box,a new box will have to be fitted(not cheap). He says the oils look the same but have different ingredients,so get Lexus auto transmission only, youve been warned.Hope thats of some help to us all. :winky:
  6. Hi all,Greybeard putting wider tyres on all round has really got rid of the understeer and its so much nicer to drive now,ive drove the car a few hundred miles now all over the place on all sorts of roads and had very very little tram lining.Maneesh the wheels were £508 for all 4 alloys, just put part worn tyres on all round costing £170 for 4 tyres.I went for the same size tyres all round, you can get 265 on the back but because the car seemed to have bags of grip at the back with the standard wheels, putting wider tyres on the back that are wider than the front would not help i felt with understeer so i went for 245/40/18 all round,i know to have the speedo right i should have 235/40/18,they only had the 245s so ive gone with them for now.I am going to have to have the alloys skimmed on the inside of the wheels 3mm max to clear the arches on the front, now and again the tyres scrub the wheel arches.SO ITS VERY VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE AS NEAR TO THE 50MM OFF SET OF THE STANDARD WHEELS....the off set of the new wheels are 38 at present so after they have been machined they should be 41 off set. :winky: :D
  7. Now did they base the car handling on the boat or the boat handling on the car... :D :D :D
  8. the mk1 LS400 only had 205/65/15 on it,may be the mk2 onwards drove nicer think i saw that they wore 225/65/16 on um.
  9. I will change the airfilter as you say steve,i forgot to ask when i was down at the dealers today any idea how much one would cost please?
  10. I know where your coming from steve buy its more down to having more grip on the front now,the car has always been stable on the back when cornering, but i feel because of the heavy weight of the car and the soft ride theres alot of weight transfer to the front of the car in slow corners or roundabouts and the tyre width (205) and the profile of the tyre(65) made the car push wide and understeer(i hate understeer).Yea the ride is still soft but theres bags more grip at the front of the car and now NO understeer :D :D :D :D :D so im really happy driving the car.Note there is more tyre noise but the cars still very quiet againest other cars ive owned.
  11. Hi there, all you who answered my posts a few weeks ago about me not being sure weather i wanted to keep the old LS400 that at that time i had owned for about 3 weeks.Well after buying new wheels so that i have more grip all round its truely truely nice to drive. You now turn the steering wheel and the car now goes were you point it instead of understeering at low speeds, where the tyre was rolling on its wall and understeering. As you may tell i am now keeping the LS400.Ive also cleaned the air filter out which had leafs init from where the car had been stood for 6 months and the car now pulls better. The car now also looks more the part with nicer in my option wheels :D :D
  12. Hi i was thinking my self about a Volvo T5 before i bought the LS 400.Think i will be getting another 400 mk4 in years to come when the prices come down to what i can afford.Think ive got the Lexus bug now.
  13. Thanks Colin for you help,i did decide to drive down to Lexus at Bristol today and ask how much they would want for a new one......around a £150 :o . Can anyone also help with sourcing the pipe which cracks around the back of the engine on the mk1 ls 400,think the part number for the pipe is 25601 thats whats on the picture i asked them to print for me,they quote around £100 for it.they say its a long and difficult job to change the pipe the symptons are that mainly it sounds as though the exhaust is blowing around the manifold. The car still runs fine.
  14. Hi all,i had the oil level symbol light up on the dash the other night,go out and come back on again,i stopped straight away and checked the engine oil level and it was ok,the weathers **** at the moment so i dont fancy getting under the car,i would think the sensor would be on the side of the sump.can anyone give details of where its to and may be a price of a replacement sensor?
  15. Im no computer expert, messed the link up,any way if you go to auto trader and lexus ls400 national search theres one ls400 no tax or mot for £995,cheap motor just for spares, the ad says the car has a FSH.
  16. Hi try going to the alloy wheels makers sites or sites which sale wheels and put the RX300 in as your car and see if they come up on a search.try performance alloys or rochford.good luck.
  17. Looks like ive found some new best friends who may be able to help in the future :D
  18. Ive checked my ls front screen and the rubber is flush all the way around, top and sides. There is a slight gap between the strip down the side by the roof pillar and the rubber and there is very little wind noise when driving.
