  2. HERE!! HERE!! Im sorry to here after paying all that money for the car, them not being to help full.Ive phoned Lexus at Bristol 2 or 3 times since owning my Ls400,i thought it was because i had a old one that they werent that helpful about where i could get the radio code for my car.To be honest before i bought the car id phoned the service dept and the bloke was dead helpful about what to look for when buying a second hand one and saved me from buying alot of trouble.BUT since owning the car not had much help from them.
  3. Hi,im looking to buy some new alloys for my mk1 LS400.I want to put 18 inch on because im on a budget after just buying the car.The only writting on the wheels is on the outside of the alloy as follows... L JIL 15X6.5 JJ 50 Ive looked on web sites which asks you to choose your car make, model etc.Phones um up and chats to bloke(before id looked whats written on alloy).Seems theres not many wheels that will fit because of the caliper size and position,im phoning the firm back on monday with the details that are written on the wheel. Can anyone help please with info on what wheels will fit my car and whats the widest tyres that can go on the car front and back. :duh:
  4. An important warning message. Stolen v5 registration docs We advise buyers of used cars to be particulary vigilant at the present time,as a number of documents (also known as log books) have been stolen from the dvla. The documents in question fall into the following two categories: A)Those that bear the prefix AP in their serial number (at the top left hand corner of the document)and fall within the following ranges: AP 8022601 TO AP8024400 AP 9424801 TO AP9426600 AP 9430201 TO AP9432000 AP 9435601 TO AP9437400 AP 9448201 TO AP9450000 B ) Those that brear the prefix an and fall within the following range: AN 8854201 TO AN8859600 if anyone is offered a vehicle for sale accompanied by one of these documents they should contact the dvla on 0870 241 1878, or your local police station
  5. Sorry looking at the rev counter this morning it was around 1200rpm when cold, then 600rpm when warm.I cant believe how quick the engine warms up from cold in the morning up against the 24V Senator, and how much quicker the mirrors defrost when frozen.Sorry but so happy with the 400 :D :D :D :D
  6. Hi,i also met Mike Brewer,at a car show and spoke to Chris (road to hell) Rea up at Castle Combe race track when he was racing his Ferrari up there.
  7. That sounds like the trouble i had the nice cars are miles from where you live.
  8. Hi many many thanks for the info which will come in useful for me in the future.
  9. Im glad you got what you wanted Steve,i looked at afew and like you said there abit few and far between,i ended up with a 2 owners car a real honest one with all the history. The lady had it up together apart from the body work, which for what i paid for the car can be tidyed up in the near future.its just so quiet and relaxing to drive, and what with my driving ban last year its just so easy to drive slow and to the speed limits.
  10. COOL MOTOR Steve, one of them did cross my mind but memorys of old TOPGEAR programs with my old ls400 on there, think one of the reasons i bought the 400 was cos of the 50pence test they did balancing it on the engine when running. a week on nearly and im very happy with mine :D
  11. I agree with all points made, yea the parents are to blame.Lets hope things get better, maybe.
  12. can anyone tell me what the LS400 handles like with 18" on in terms of grip, less understeer maybe in slow corners, its abit cold out there today(feeling hungover)for me to swap the wheels over(17"s) and try on the LS. :winky:
  13. Hi sorry to here about the damage to your motor. Its the same down my street the parents dont give a **** about where there kids are or what there doing, seems as though as long as they arent giving their perents problems they dont care.I dont mean to sound sick but it was nice and quiet down our road for a month or so last year because there was some perv driving around by the local school trying to pick up kids, yea sick but while he was about the parents kept the kids under control and kept a eye on them and out of trouble. After afew weeks it was back to normal when i think they caught the bloke.Seems like if you goto work for a living you value the things you have,if its all given to people on free hand outs things mean nothing to them.I got a bloke in our steet a job afew years ago were i was working at the time, after 2 weeks he jacked the job in,said he was only £15 better by working. He went back on the dole and started working on the side again.(sorry there i go again going off on one)
  14. Sorry to here about your motor being broken into to nice.A few years ago i had my old MR2 broken into right out the front of my house on the drive, they smashed the drivers door window and nicked my radio. The worst thing about it was that i was working up at Kidderminster and had to drive up there at 6am for work in the middle of winter in the wind and rain.My next door neighbour saw the person run off with something under his coat(my radio) and go into the house just behind where i live, told the police all this and guess what they didnt even bother to come down to check it out.Yes i did fill like going round and asking for it back, but they would only say they knew nothing about it.Both my parents are retired and i was working away so i didnt want them having more trouble well i was away working. The family out the back of us were a rough lot so i would be out numbered if i was to tackle they about the radio. The police said they knew all about the family but unless anyone saw the car being broken into there was nothing they could do(think they were to busy stopping us honest motorists). That family(scum) has since moved away that ***.The amount of trouble the breakin to my car caused me didnt end there.I had to get autoglass to come out to the site at work to replace the window, guess what i had the window replaced and later on in the day went to me car to find the new was also broken dew to the fact it was badly fitted and shattered under pressure,so then i had more trouble cos the window firm didnt want to come out and fit another replacement without charging me again!.It just makes me think why bother having a nice motor.I was thinking of making a device with spikes that would launch up and stab um in the ***** when they sat in the seat in the car,but that would get me into trouble. So i know how you feel gutted and helpless.(sorry to go off on one, your post brought the feelings all back).I hope you dont have as much trouble as i had at least they didnt take the car.
  15. Hi,ive also got the standard 15" wheels on my LS400.Ive not owned her a week and im thinking of buying new wheels for her.The condition of them are very poor.Im thinking of trying my 17" on her off my old car before i buy new ones to see what the ride and grip and handling are like if they fit.I think 20" wheels will fit the 400 but would cost nearly or more than i paid for the car!
  16. Hi,my boss at work has had many company cars and just LOVES his IS200.The only thing hes had wrong with it has been the alloys(standard wheels) which LEXUS has replaced at no charge.just wish i had the money to buy one.
  17. ok thanks, the lady how owned the car kept the inside of it spotless, she wasnt much of a driver so the front bumper has been damaged on both sides, not to much to worry about for the moment after only just getting it.not to worried cos the headlights are not the sort of thing that i would adjust to often, think i would rather get a new alarm fitted and have it rigged up to the locking to get around the problem.no worries.thanks.
  18. Hi,yea i found the electric adjuster, theres a real screaming sound as they adjust is that normal, the senator also got the adjustment but its alot quieter on the senator. Also now ive had abit of time to look at all the gizmos i notice on the key it should lock and unlock the car,ive put a new battery in the key and it dont work, does it have tobe setup again or reprogramed ?
  19. ive been running 24v senators for the last nine years, the first one was 5 years old when i bought it and i had very little trouble withit, the second as it turned out was abit of a lemon it was just lucky that i kept the first car,and ended up putting most bits onto the 2nd 24v.the LS400 first caught my eye years ago seeing it on TOPGEAR and them balancing a 50p piece on the engine and also a glass of water to show how smooth it was.i wanted one then but the senator was to me the next best thing that i could afford.so i think i would have kept the old senator if i couldnt have got the LS400.ive always loved and owned big motors, volvos(the 164 3 litres and a 760 turbointercooler),opel senators(3litre E),vauxhall royale 2.8litre(first car i owned after passing me test(on fathers insurance).so i think the LS400 was the next step.
  20. many thanks for the help on all questions ive put since the first post.it was nice to drive back tonight and be able to see where i was going after replacing the headlights on the senator and not noticing much difference, nice to have nice white lights,is there a manual adjustment under the bonnet like there is on my senator to rays the headlights on the highest setting they seemed a little low on normal dip?
  21. thats good news then newburys not to far away for me,any more details on the price and a address please.yea shes got 130,000 with all the history.looks like its got a factory alarm on it,is it any good or is it worth getting a newer model alarm fitted.also could you tell me what fuel you use is straight unleaded ok or will i notice a differance if i use the super unleaded?
  22. Hi,my old mk 1 mr2 when cold would idle at 2000 rpm then slowly drop back.the LS400 mk1 i looked at today when cold, checked under the bonnet before i started was stone cold and idled at 1000 then dropped back to 600 rpm, checked the aircon and it went up to 800 rpm as explained in another post i read some where on this forum.
