  1. Honda for newest Accord got similar mats for £70-£80 if I remember correctly. There are called premium carpets or something like that. Those in GS are bigger, got better fitting system, got nice special underside to prevent movement + bigger brand premium :) You can probably buy some decent generic ones for £50 area - but how often are you going to change them anyway Just as curiosity I've just checked and mats for XF are £90 5 series £130 so Lexus price fits for nicely into segment prices.
  2. It depends what are yours expectations. I like nice proper carpets in my car. They look proper are pleasant to put your foots down on. They also got proper mounting kit which holds them in place. Same for you living room you can have something from Tesco or proper nice hand made carpet both with work. So if you would be happy with something from Halfords in your GS that fine with me. They probably wont fit so nicely will be worse quality and wont last for so long. As for mats this is one of important point of my pre buy checks-up. Does the car have proper mats ? Proper tires etc ? If so there is good chance that owner was looking after the car and wasn't trying to save every single £££.
  3. Yes I know I bought mine with driver ones missing so I was -£110 straight ahead. So just in case I got passengers and both rear as spares - maybe someone needs one ? :)
  4. As a general remark about pre/post facelift I'm very happy with post facefilt as I don't really like front of the pre model - a little bit too much 90s style :) As a addition audio system is upgraded input wise- streaming audio from BT, DAB and USB (not sure if it was in pre model). Whole system looks also a bit more modern like power flow screen. Finally I like post face lift models in general as those got all early model problems solved - like faulty pump in gear box. As for your list: -there is no electric hand brake - acceleration wont be linear in the 50-60mph area due to ratio shift in the gearbox. There will be very short (if it is longer than 1-2s be careful) loss of power. - Check floor mats as new ones are £110 :) - Some early models got some problems with VTC (change of ignition timing) so when you start it cold listen for rattling during the first 2 seconds - If car is near to 100k miles check if cooling liquid was changed in both engine and inverter - If it is near 60k or 120k check if new spark plugs are fitted (extra £200 for service to do it) Beside that good luck and I can fully recommend GS as an previous owner of 2009 2.4L Honda Accord :)
  5. Yes that is what I was saying in my own words.in heavy load petrol engine is producing electricity through mg1 to help drive mg2 and produce more torque but less bhp. There must be a clever algorithm which decide about power flow as there is many different options. Point is mg1 is producing electricity by taking power from petrol engine so to have full 197 bhp from electric motor petrol engine needs to sacrifice even more - my guess 240 bhp area.
  6. There is very simple explanation why 292 + 197 is 342 - lack of electric power :) even if electric motor got capability to deliver 197 bhp it needs a certain amount of watts of electricity. Problem is batteries are able only deliver enough watts to produce 50 bhp and therefore on full petrol engine output + full batteries output we got 342. now some of you will ask why to put so big electric motor if you can't power it up. I can see two reasons: - it must be big enough to work in opposite direction and charge batteries during braking in efficient way. - in many occasions it is better to run the petrol engine as a generator to create extra electricity to run electric motor. So we can have 100bhp engine for wheels + 192bhp engine as a generator + 197 electric motor bhp to wheels. And here is whole beauty of the hybrid system in gs - we can convert bhp from petrol engine to torque from electric motor. By that I mean if we use 10 bhp engine power for wheels we got x nm of torque but if we use 10bhp to create electricity we will have 7bhp of power but 2x nm of torque which equals to nice acceleration above 20mph when petrol engine can produce enough electricity for full electric motor potential.
  7. Not everyone will be on eBay. I'm not sure but there might be the difference in mirrors in left hand drive cars. It may just be the glass which you can probably move from your current one or maybe whole body is different. do you have version with turn signals ? Those are more expensive. Here is quick link to eBay like website: http://allegro.pl/listing/listing.php?order=dd&string=lexus gs lusterko&search_scope=category-4094&bmatch=base-relevance-floki-5-aut-1-1-1025 divide price by 5 for gbp. finally maybe you can fix yours mirror. If it is just a crack and no material is missing some glue + respray would do.
  8. You can buy it on eBay in uk but there is a lot of gs taken apart in Eastern Europe - especially Lithuania and Poland. second option may be easier to find matching colour and should be cheaper.
  9. Hi i cant tell you how hard it is to change it but I can tell you it is neither aux belt or chain. pump is electric and therefore driven by electricity. It means if there is enough space it should be to replace but it may be quite expensive part. Maybe it would be better to try and fix it ? ps. There is quite a few on eBay from Lithuania and they under £200.
  10. Morning everyone, So I own 450h in the UK and though I was enjoying the car - well till yesterday :) im writing this post from east Germany which mean I spend good few hours yesterday on Germans motorways and I must say I can see how much of the car I was missing so far. Cruising at 120mph is so effortless and touching 155mph wasn't problematic but road must be extra smooth. My everyday 70-80mph sound silly now and that car wasn't created for that for sure :) As for mpg it was 39 up to Germany border but later dropped to 36 whole trip average - which I think is brilliant with 3 peoples and a lot of stuff. Saying all that it would be so sad to get back home to our everyday 70-80mph which is just a walk in the park for our sprinter.
  11. It all depends of what car are you buying. For GS 100k miles is nothing, but I wouldnt buy Astra with diesel with such a mileage :) i once owned Honda legend with 250k miles and drove it for 2 years without any problems. Car is still in the family and getting near 300k miles - only knock sensor is failing slowly + small leak on steering rack. saying that if you are buying car designed to last and not some 1.2l triple turbo I wouldnt be scared. Additionally if you are technical person and know something about the cars 150+ isn't a problem. Just be sure to inspect it through as you never know if it was looked after well.
  12. As for battery capacity - 2-3 traffic lights in London and battery is depleted and I still got 20 more junctions to do on conventional 3.5L petrol engine - easily 25-30 area of course outside London in smaller cities battery is charging between stops and hybrid system works well. - 30-35 averagE. It all depends what the town is what distance you are doing etc. Above values are for 450h so newer 300h for sure will be better but still 45mpg sound too good - at least in my town :)
  13. 45mpg in town ? Probably it depend on town size and amount of traffic jams but anyhow it is hard to imagine such a good value even in 300H.
  14. Of course it can I can also do it in my head but it just take a little more time. Point is both units are fine it just depend what you used to.
  15. It make sense as you used to it as people on the continent used to l/100km. Any advantage that l/100km got it is easier to calculate cost (especially if you work in km not miles) if you care about it. Lets say you need to drive from London to Manchester which is 200 miles (320km). If you car use 8L/100km then you will burn 3.2*8 = 25.6L. 25.6 *1.1 per litter = £28.16. Now how to do similar calculation quickly with MPG ? Maybe there is a way like converting Fahrenheit into Calvin/Celsius but I'm not aware of anything simple. Beside above both measurement are fine where if you fill up in litres L/100km are easier to convert into money and when you fill up in gallons (like in US) MPG is easier.
  16. I didn't mean empty like literally empty. For me empty is when reserve light show up - still like 15L in tank.
  17. If car is UK spec then UK gallons if it is imported from US then US gallons :) For 99.99% it will be UK gallons. Or just fill it up drive till tank gets empty and do standard math like in the old days.
  18. I would suggest to use https://www.lexus-tech.eu/. It is official source of all Lexus/Toyota technical documentation. Normally if I need to do something I just buy 1h subscription (3EUR) download all the manuals I need and I'm ready to go. For job like removing/installing manifold I would suggest that this will be one of the best 3EUR spent in your life :) PS. If you need to disconnect fuel line don't forget to relief the pressure gently first as you may end with nice fountain under your bonnet.
  19. As a general advise regarding oil consumption - you should ask about the oil the engine is running on. Same engine can burn a lot of some thin 0w20 but be fine with 5w30 or 5w50. Also general quality is important my previous accord was taking 250ml per 600miles of some Mobil 1 5w30 but after switching to proper type iv syntethic from amsoil it dropped to 100-150 max. Of course 800ml is way of the scale with any oil type :)
  20. I got similar issue with my old Honda legend. In general a lot of work and marking all the tubing to reconnect everything. Manifold is not only air for cylinder but a lot of vacuum channels and whole cooling system which you need to drain. It was doable in diy in Honda v6 so Lexus v8 should be similiar. and yes you should use new gaskets as you don't want to risk any air/liquids leaks out there.
  21. You are lucky guys - I'm paying £650 (with Europe breakdown) in Surrey all that with 10 years of NCD. I've just checked LV from curiosity and they will sell for £700 so even worse than my current Elephant. PS. I've also got business use included for myself which is putting extra £50-70 on top.
  22. I always was curious what drives people's to spend so much time on bulbs or other such details. I can understand detailing and keeping car in proper technical condition - what I'm doing by myself. But bulb colour seriously it's a car to drive and enjoy not a Christmas tree :) of course if you are doing it professionally for some competition and are planing to win some prize then yes but I doubt it is the case here.
  23. I also would go for oil change. Maybe while oil is still cold and thick pump got problem to build up the pressure. Try eventually warm up gearbox a little bit before driving. Start the car let it run for a while change gears few times while stationary.
