  1. If I recall correctly amongst early marketing bumph i've got, Lexus itself doesn't actually stand for anything as such though it's supposed to imply Luxury and Elegance, but it was a refinement of the original chosen name, Alexis.
  2. I read of a few problems with sludging with the 1MZ-FE V6 in US Camry's although it does seem pretty rare, but to be honest, it's likely you'll be in for a whole lot more problems if you choose the ML over an RX. Just go and find yourself a JD PowerSurvey or similar to find out why.
  3. I'm surprised it's that low, I've got a V6 Camry (essentially the same as the RX300 minus 4WD) and I get around 27MPG and don't go that easy on it either.
  4. The SatNav crashed on mine once, which made it appear that the screen was blank but if you looked very carefully in the dark you could see it 'cycling', the aerial wouldn't go up or down either. In the end I pulled every fuse out then back in until I found the one that controlls this, once put back it rebooted and has been fine ever since, can't remember which fuse it was though -_-
  5. I don't like black interiors, too dark and they show up all the dust. Pale grey or beige is far better. If you walk away they'll soon manage to conjure something up.
  6. Don't worry about the mileage, the V6 Toyota Camry is 90% the same car and people drive hundreds of thousands of miles in them elsewhere in the world, so at 125k it's barely run in.
  7. Make sure they use the proper Toyota auto transmission fluid, normal transmission fluid can cause gearbox problems on high end Toyota/Lexus auto boxes.
  8. £8.99 is a bit pricey for a touch up stick, mine was only about £3.60 from Toyota, looks like it might be the same colour aswell, Beige Mica met according to the packet, had one of those fairly non-descriptive fancy names in the brochure though!
  9. If you take it to a Toyota dealer it will be a bit cheaper, everyday servicing on an RX300 is the same as for a Camry, same V6 engine and gearbox etc, when I took mine in for its 60k service including the iridium plugs I think it came to about £210.
  10. I'm having the same problem with my Camry, tried the same things as yourself too but I fear it'll be a strip down and clean properley job.
  11. Are you certain it's the pump and not just a dry belt thats making the noise? I get increased noise when steering at slow speeds and a bit a chirping noise from a dry belt on my Camry, every few weeks I put a bit of PTFE spray on it and it quietens it down again.
  12. Try rebooting the computer, I had the SatNav crash on my Camry and ended with a black screen. Easiest way is take the fuse out, I can't remember which one it was unfortunately, I just took each one out of the box under the bonnet in sequence (leaving a few obvious ones alone) until the whole Nav/Audio/Screen etc didnt respond, put the fuse back in, screen lit up saying please wait for a minute or so then it was fine.
  13. You could try it but I doubt it would work. The DVD based sat navs were always intended for wide screen TFT displays, the MKIV LS400 had a 4:3 mini CRT.
  14. Is there a belt than runs round the alternator, A/C and PAS, it could be slipping or loose therefore meaning the A/C won't work properley, the steering/PAS will have trouble and the alternator won't work properley.
  15. If the pollen filter is dirty it can take longer also make sure the inside of the screen is clean as greasy screen takes longer to demist, i'm not referring to finger marks but as the drivers side gets used the most its the side where there is the most build up. As for settings, for quick demist press front windscreen button and make sure the A/C is on.
  16. Not got an IS myself, but I would say its how they are since all 4 are the same. If you had an odd one or two out then it might have been replacement door skins but not if they all match.
  17. Probably due to where its been parked over time, one side of a car will always get more 'gunk' and dust than the other.
  18. Dad always takes his Lexus to the Toyota dealer where my Camry is serviced, costs almost half what Lexus wanted and all the bits will say Toyota made in Japan regardless of whether they come from a Lexus or Toyota dealer.
  19. I'm one of those who likes things to appear from the era of the car, so although the MKIII doesn't look overly dated those wheels IMO are a bit too modern. Standard MKIII ones were the best looking of all the LS400 wheels anyway, it wasn't until the 430 where they came up with one that came close.
  20. I'm not quite sure but if Toyota/Lexus state the the belt only needs to be replaced every 100k or so many years then if its the original and it snaps within that time frame then Toyota/Belt Manufacturer should be held responsible for suggesting such a replacement interval. Afterall if they said 5 years or 60k then you would have replaced it sooner.
  21. If you have a choice i'd go for the 430. Not quite the same comparisson but my dad's LS400 is just as economical as my 3.0 Camry.
  22. Not sure if a Lexus dealer will charge the same, these were form a Toyota Dealer. Should be the same but who knows, the better coffee machine in Lexus dealers might add 50% to the price
  23. My dad got some for his LS400 from a Toyota Dealer, they had to order them as they were the proper graphite coated made in Japan blades not the ordinary optifit ones they usually sell, cost him £4.xx each.
