  1. Forgot to add that there is also the added complication of the Atkinson Cycle being used on these engines. This is going to be fun !
  2. I'm going to get a reputation for bumping old threads LOL. I've not done too badly though, since joining up I've been slowly reading backwards through the GS300/G250/GS430/GS450H/GS460 section and I've only bumped a couple of threads Again I'm bumping this thread so that it has a definitive answer on it. The problem with the GS450H is not that it has Direct Injection, there are LPG systems out there tailor made for Direct Injection. The problem is that it has both port injection as well as direct injection. Currently there is no off the shelf solution that caters for this setup. We still need to wait some time to let the LPG Industry bed in the new Direct Injection solutions. In the meantime I'll be getting to know these engines inside and out, especially the injection systems on them.
  3. My gates (rather annoyingly) don't stop opening once they have started opening. Also I want to use custom electronics and programming to make the SMS opening feature rather than purchase a ready made solution. LOL
  4. New to Hybrids but taken on a Hybrid issue, that's brave I'm new to Hybrids myself, so I can't really advice you but as no one else had replied yet. I thought I'd ask if you slid the safety leave across as described by John below :-
  5. I have problem with range on my remote control fobs, so another solution I am looking at is running a GPRS Arduino Shield at home, upon receiving a text message the Arduino can activate the fob and send the signal to open the gate. This way I can (hopefully get range extended) but I'm unsure of how quick a SMS message is delivered. I guess I'll have to build the circuit and then experiment.
  6. I had one in my previous car and I'll be looking to do the same in my new (to me) GS 450H. I'm also looking to do an app on my phone to do the same thing with voice recognition (more as fun project rather than necessity )
  7. Oh and you mention a Grom Aux adaptor ... there is already a 3.5mm socket for a audio jack inside the centre armrest. I've actually plugged in a cheap Bluetooth adaptor that into this audio jack, so now I can play media on phone through bluetooth. *EDIT* Actually there may not be in Aux input on the pre-facelift
  8. Congrats on the GS 450H purchase, Tristan. I'm a new owner too, loving the car so far, still getting accustomed to things. Here's my intro thread :- Have you tried to set the climate control settings to opposing values for each side ? So say passenger side full hot setting and drivers side fully cold and the tried the other way round ? What happens when you did this ? Also worth checking the condition of the pollen filters. This thread maybe useful
  9. Soooo.. I picked up a Gs 450H in black (Oh Lord how did I ever end up with an all black drive .. all three cars we own are black !! Gulp !!) Need to take some proper pics but here's a taster :- Things that needs attention are :- Needs a clay bar, polish and wax Engine bay is dirty Brake discs aren't great, will look at changing those at some point. I think I may have spotted an oil leak or at least some sign of some oil dripping off the cooling pipes for Hybrid System, down the nearside of the engine Have a think about getting Android phone mirrored up on the Sat Nav screen Even though the oil has just been changed by the previous owner I'll do another change very soon. I like to do a couple of quick oil changes within a few hundred miles of each other when I first get a car. I'll count his change as one and I'll down my own one. Initial impressions are good. I'm still finding my way round the cockpit. I'm quite liking the laid driving approach that the Hybrid encourages. The 450H has replaced a Nissan 350Z so it's an all together different beast totally, although in a straight line sprint I think the Lexus may actually have beaten the 350Z I took it down to London and back on Saturday and the economy wasn't quite as good as I'd hoped. I was actually thinking of selling my '05 Accord 2.4 Type S once I'd got the Lexus but now I think I'll just LPG the Accord and keep that as well. I can get the costs equivalent of 50 to 60MPG once the 2.4 is LPG converted. It's a huge shame the 450H's can't be LPG'd would have loved to put a system in that. If anyone's interested I can do a thread on the LPG of the Accord once I get round to it, probably some time in Jan.
  10. Do you mean it doesn't have a MHL on the USB ? You could use a MIRACAST device instead though. Incidentally just as some side info for Android users, there's a app in Play Store that can actually tell you if your phone has MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) ability, just search for MHL Checker. I'm about 20 minutes from Stourbridge, under 10 mins from J2 M42 and J4 M5.
  11. Here's the Car Solutions GVIF Interface installation guide. The instructions aren't as the NAVIKS one but this Car Solutions one is cheaper than the NAVIKS one. GVIF_installation_guide_V7.2.pdf
  12. I've obtained the installation instructions for the NAVIKS unit. Seems pretty straight forward. Lexus_GS_Video_Interface_2007_-_2011.pdf
  13. Yes I've seen that one. Currently looks like the most viable one. Will spend some time researching over Christmas period. The attached PDF is from that site and shows how to determine if your Lexus has the GVIF interface. How_to_define_GVIF_CarSolutions_EN.pdf
  14. Hi Banji, If you were asking me any question about Hondas, I'd very likely know the answer in great detail, having owned and worked on tons of Hondas for many many years. From everything from CarPC installations, gearbox rebuilds with modified ratios, full engine rebuilds for performance gains to wicked LPG installs. With Lexus's I'm actually pretty new to it all myself. I am, however, looking into getting an Android device mirrored onto the Sat Nav screen of a GS 450H. As soon as I've sussed it all out myself I will for sure share my findings on here.
  15. The Lexus Sat Navs mostly have a GVIF (Gigabit Video InterFace) so I assume it plugs into that.
  16. @Britprius/John, just seeing if you saw my message above ? I've not seen much else on the site regarding this, so I assume no one has attempted it yet ? I'm interesting in looking into this some more and would be good to hear what how far you got with this.
  17. Peter is correct, you can't use a Cable tracer on DC cables as it utilises the magnetic field generator by AC.
  18. I've got a pretty decent incline on the drive leading up to our house, I'm worried that it maybe "a challenge" for the GS450H.
  19. Out of curiosity (as I'm looking for a GS 450H) how do these fair in the snow ?
  20. Sorry to bump an old thread but @Britprius did you manage to get an Android mirrored onto the Sat Nav screen ?
  21. Nice build thread Lee. Have you done anything recently to your car ? You gotta watch them stealers, always trying it on !
  22. Nice honest review that. Electric power steering does generally rob you of that direct feedback you would normally get. I'm not sure what you mean by "imprecise" I would just say "the feedback is lacking" but in line with whats expected from a electric power steering vehicle. Having said this I only drove the car for a short while. I'll take more notice of this on my next test drive of one. Haha yes, I don't get that either I bet the heads are still the same pristine conditions as they were when the car left the factory. Can you play Can't comment on this I'm an Android user, hopefully that will work !!?? Maybe you need to fully reset the system to clear out the old stuff from previous owner ?? I'm hoping that you can play media on a phone via Bluetooth to the head unit ? Can someone confirm if you can please. I think that is expected for a decade old system. It wont bother me so much. I'm planning to look to mirror the Android phone screen onto the head unit. Hmmm that's interesting I didn't even take note of this, will do next time Yeah it is for sure. It was smaller than I expected it to be honest. I'm not even sure you could get a suitcase in there ?? OK, maybe you could ... just ! No too worried about this. Good question regarding the divider. I'll actually mostly be doing motorway driving during the week and tottering about town during weekend. For me, from what I've read about actual MPG figures, given that's a big car with a V6, overall the consumption is not all too bad. I've had a 350Z now and the consumption in that is worse. In theory the overall consumption should be on par and if not better than me 2.4 litre Accord. Maybe yours needs a Hybrid Health check done ? Yeah ... thats a kick in the teeth ! I will miss the gurgle of my 350Z for sure.
  23. Ah ! Now you've gone and thrown a spanner in the works Sandro ! Joking aside, it's good to read an honest review.
  24. Hi Lee. It'll be around 2008-2010. I have driven one yes, really impressed with the level of refinement. It's totally different to my 2.4 Accord or my 350Z but in no bad way, it's a refined cruiser, which is what I'm after. The CVT will take a little getting use to but it's nothing that I'm not expecting. I've been looking into get one for a while know, so I've done a fair bit of reading up, I don't have anything to ask at the minute. Will post up if do though
  25. Hi folks. I'm an avid Honda fan, now looking to get a GS 450H as my next purchase. A few may recognise my username from the Honda scene and forums ( @First_Lexus, hello buddy ) I know the in's and out's of Hondas to a good degree but Hybrids and Lexus would be a new ball game for me. I think it'll be a good change and something new to get my teeth into. I'm no stranger at taking engines or gearboxes apart, very experienced LPG installer, like dabbling with electronics, basically I'm not shy of taking anything on. Anyway, I look forward to interacting with some of you on the forum.
