  1. I guess it may be more a case of compromising and maybe getting them fitted minus labour if the car is still under warranty. Lexus are usually eager to please their customers. However....aim high and you may land halfway up.
  2. Hi All Have a bit of wind noise coming through from the drivers and passenger front window area. Is usually above 60mph and dependant on wind direction. Not rely what I expected in a Lexus but other than that its been a brilliant car. Might try and blag it under warranty as I bought extended 3 yr cover with the car. However in case I have to do it myself, any idea of which seal will need replacing? First is running around the body. Second is running around the doorframe. Third is running around the area where the window lines up Any ideas? They aren't cheap from the dealer.... Guess it may need all three doing? cheers
  3. Reassuring 🙂 Possibly looking at another GS in a couple of years. Do fancy a late 450h F sport too. Couldn't find any when I looked a few months ago.
  4. I think there is as much chance of finding one of these as there is a post 2010 Honda Accord EX GT. Apparently available......but just not to me or you it would seem.
  5. Hi All Have to admit I'm a bit of a sucker for being precious about dashboard noises but just noticed something recently from behind the clock area. Sounds very much like a slightly noisy fan. Have been in tech IT for 20 years so its a very familiar sound. When I give the dash a tap it changes the noise slightly. Turning the engine off the noise is there for about 10 seconds before 'spinning down' to silence. Something to do with cooling the stereo unit I wonder? Its pretty minor but I guess it always has potential to get worse! I did get 3 years of warranty with the car so I wonder if its covered by that? Cheers
  6. Lets say stiff upper lip lost the day. Counted around 50 bites....and that was just on my legs.
  7. Yes the GS250 is one of those cars a lot of people in the current era don't 'get'. Its very much a sentimental throwback to the days of 'Granada V6 man' etc. Ie a big reliable comfy cruiser that is brisk but not fast. It seems anything these days that has a V6 in needs to be sub 6 seconds 0-60, suspension like an F1 car, recaro seats etc to have an ounce of credibility. However where the likes of us really 'get' the GS250 and Lexus in General is that the immense reliability and willingness to come back for more. Apologies for the shameless showing off of photographs but here's a selection from Skye if anyone fancies a trip there. Really is a lovely place.
  8. Yes as much fun that I had I wouldn't want to repeat this very often. Have to say the eyes started to feel a bit heavy after 9 hours. I'd say 12 hours would be about my absolute limit when it comes to driving. Yes the train from London to Inverness is usually my preferred option. 8 hours pretty good going. Averages 90mph between London and Edinburgh although is down to about 60 North of here. Coming back on the A1 I did glance enviously at the LNER Azuma train rushing past at around 125mph whilst I sat behind a car and trailer at 50. However....at least I was comfy and relatively content in the GS.
  9. Just had my first proper long distance trip in the 2012 GS250. Totally legal as 'support bubbles' became legitimate in Scotland a couple of weeks ago. Have to say what a fantastic car for the long haul. Turned out to be 11.5 hours in the end but the car was a joy to drive on the A roads North of Glasgow. Plenty of hills, tight bends, overtaking trucks etc. Glen Coe was truly spectacular. Have never considered this car fast in any way or form but it easily had enough power to cope with what was thrown at it even if you needed to work the engine a little harder than normal from time to time. I think the venerable 2.5 V6 thrives on being worked and will come back for more and more. Journey home included a break in Edinburgh and a trip down the classic A1 route. Again, plenty of opportunities for overtaking on the single carriageway sections of the A1 of which the impressive sounding 2.5 V6 was more than equal. Arrived home relatively ache free. I guess this car was built for journeys like this. One thing which is apparent though. The days of being able to get away with liberal adherence of the speed limit are surely coming to and end. Average speed cameras on large sections of the A9. Loads of cameras on the A1. Ditto on the Scottish winding roads. M1/M6 relatively camera free but only because none of the variable speed limit indicators were on. Its been a topic of conversation in the past (think it was regarding the engine options on the ES) but you do have to wonder whether the days of higher powered 'ordinary' cars are coming to an end.
  10. I worry more for my parents than myself. Both are in their 70s. They are healthy and fit for their age but you are always more vulnerable at 60+. That's 14 years away for me mind.
  11. I must admit the whole thing is puzzling. On one hand you have a virus that is a fair amount less severe than influenza. Anyone who has actually had this will know how debilitating it can be. Yet on the other hand there seems to be a genuine panic amongst the establishment. Possibly due to the ease of which it can be spread??? Its apparently killed a young and healthy medical professional in China. The one of whom first went public about the virus (against the state's wishes). Lets face it it, in China you tend to disappear permanently if you don't do as you are told. I'm still not not sure what to make of it and as to whether there will be any kind of shut down. Can the World really afford to go into limp mode on the strength of what for the vast majority will be a few days off work??
  12. My GS is very quiet overall. However I have noticed in certain windy conditions (depends on which direction I'm heading) there is a bit of minor wind noise creeping in on the drivers side somewhere. Usually at above 60mph. Have inspected the rubbers which seem to be okay. Is it worth removing and reinstalling the rubbers I wonder???
  13. Spotted earlier. Never seen one before. Bigger than a Camry.... possibly related to a Crown???
  14. No long wave on my Lexus issue stereo. No listening to Test match special live. Any workarounds??? Am sure it can be streamed via mobile device and bluetooth if there's nothing else.
  15. Agreed. The German prestige manufacturers are the worst offenders. Often totally failing to acknowledge engineering failings in their products. There were shades of this in my old E60. Appallingly engineered components that naturally only fail when the car is a good few years past its road test and review. A car that got 5/5 new will become a 3/5 for second hand ownership all things considered. However as for the 'crabbing' on the GS. At the very least my Lexus dealer acknowledged it can happen on certain tyres. My car only has 30k on and suspension etc is still in excellent condition. The day before I took it in for a service I'd actually spent around 15 mins and around 50 turns on full lock to replicate it without success. So it really is a minor, minor issue that only springs up under certain conditions.
  16. Is actually a big issue with the Mercedes GLC models. A guy who runs my local body shop owns one and has even tried to get Mercedes to take it back as being unfit for purpose. https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/miscellaneous/2017-01/mercedes-dealer-refuses-to-accept-ruling-of-motor-ombudsman-over-glc-crabbing-issue/
  17. The GS250 is lovely. Ticks all the boxes for me. Comfortable, brisk, well equipped, superbly built and most importantly reliable. Its was a lone UK market survivor when you think about it. The last in line of a series of large, extremely reliable Japanese standard V6 powered cars. Never the fastest or most exciting choices on the market but by far the best buys second hand if you want hassle free motoring. Very pleased with it so far. As for the next conquest in 3-4 years time its pretty demoralising really. Will not go German again. Will probably be a Lexus ES Hybrid or a Toyota Camry Hybrid although I'm sure I'll be paying for the privilege. Whats certain is that the good old days of being able to buy a cheap, fast comfy old larger petrol engined car (without being hammered by enviro-taxes) is coming to an end.
  18. Hello SlowV6 Good to see you on here. I used to post under the name of 'Stonesfan' on the Honda Accord forum and owned that immaculate blue 1999 V6 Coupe. I did toy with the idea of a Saab 9-5 Aero but for a few reasons decided against it. Loving my GS250 though 🙂 cheers.
  19. Its a bit of a shame they didn't release the GS200T here as it does fill the gap between the GS300h and GS450. Most big saloons recently have had a 2 litre turbo as their semi-performance option. Then again it probably just wouldn't have sold to you average Lexus owner. Owning an import, especially what will be an extremely rare car in the UK may prove to be a bit of a headache, even if its probably going to be very reliable. If its got a 'cult' following like the Soarer had then there will usually be plenty of enthusiasts online and a handful of specialist garages around the country.
  20. Hi All Silly me managed to reverse into something putting a hairline crack down the tail light. Will probably replace at some point. Saw this on ebay. Looks a bit grubby I know . Compatibly matrix suggests its not compatible with a GS250 but does suggest 2012-2019 models. However it may be worth giving it a try??? It can be sent back if a good clean doesn't improve it or incompatible. Any ideas whether this will work? Lexus tail light Cheers
  21. I reckon an LS series!!!! Have to admit I did consider one myself. Just wary of ongoing servicing costs.
  22. A shame the GS250 didn't work out. Could you not have negotiated a big discount for the number of owners? Find it strange that a GS went through quite a few owners if I'm being honest. These cars rarely have faults so I doubt it would have been constantly chopped in for being a bit of a lemon. Wouldn't worry about the lack of a 12" screen. Flashy extras like soon lose their appeal in my opinion. Its all about how it drives and how it look.
