  1. I'm guessing Peugeot 106 Rallye? I remember the old Rover SD1, makes me think of growing up and watching shows like Police, Camera, Action! and The Professionals (remember that)
  2. Thanks for the pick-me-up, just a good chuckle to get me through the day. On a more serious note, I've always thought the RX was smaller than the X5/RR Sport/Cayenne/Q7 but it's actually the same size. I think theres some clever design trickery going on here, definitely a car that is bigger than it looks, maybe thats where the complaints about size come from?
  3. Same here actually. I've done some research and theres a fair bit that is upgradeable. From bluetooth connectivity, to subwoofers, and even the amp. Seems that as long as your pockets are deep enough then anything is possible. It would be helpful to give us a rundown on what your audio situation is currently at and what direction you would like to take it in, and please include what might be faulty (e.g. my sub seems to be fine, but interestingly my tweeters are the one giving the dreaded crackle.)
  4. That looks like the Smart Coupé/Roadster Edit - though looking at it, could also be the Brabus version of said car.
  5. Ah, it's the Grandis. I wasn't far of though first guess right?
  6. Which one? Theres a Kia Picanto in the back, the LS400/Celsio, and I think a Mitsubishi Space Wagon is the MPV.
  7. Just about to mention this. Also a new LS430 owner here, and when doing my research on these, I did read or watch about there being some way to readjust the height/recalibrate the height. Its about 13 minutes into the clip.
  8. For me it'll be whisky Funnily enough there are actually catalytic converters for cows (at the very least), but it's for the front end emissions not rear. Maybe we could fit these to a horse?
  9. Divisive issue...I tried to hold my tongue but can’t help but weigh in. If 2020 has taught us one thing, that should be that we can do a lot of “essential” fave to face business remotely. Now that, is what really could make a difference. if you’re curious about the whole carbon cost of EV manufacture, I watched this yesterday in the hopes of keeping V8s alive for a little longer.
  10. Must be how birds see colours (maybe like dogs?)
  11. Also, maybe its just me, but I find a freshly washed car is to birds what a flame is to a moth. I feel the more I clean the car, the more I end up having to clean it!
  12. Not checking the car adequately, including underneath for children/animals is a fail in the Japanese driving test!
  13. That’s exactly it, definitely feel like my luck is running out. I did not get one chip in my first 10 years of motoring! But of late the state of UK roads are getting progressively worse, lots more traffic with the same amount of maintenance. I’ve had 3-4 chips in maybe 2 years? All caused by aggressive white van man cutting hatched areas and poorly loaded construction vehicles. I’ve been fortunate that they weren’t MOT fails, but each time it happens it reminds me how much worse things are getting. Add on to the fact that original LS430 glass is like hens teeth, and the fitter woes other people have reported, it seems worthwhile to test the waters. Since it sounds like nobody has tried this, so I’ll get a quote to see if it’s worth it and report back here.
  14. Might be worth trying building supply places like Wickes. I think they use some pretty dense polystyrene type materials for insulation.
  15. Well the expense may be due to the need to cover screw ups, it’s essentially a surcharge for doing a higher risk job. I expect a Ferrari fob is a lot more expensive to replace than a Lexus or Honda equivalent. I know some fobs are pretty finicky, restorer friend of mine initially apprenticed as a mechanic and wouldn’t touch a lot of remotes because some will deprogram themselves if you take too long. Friend who is a trainer at timpsons also hates doing these jobs for the same reason, he would sooner service mechanical watches than do key fobs. Which brings me to a question, do you know how long before the key loses the programming for a LS430 type C (keyless entry/start) fob?
  16. Thanks, that’s the one. I wasn’t sure what the policy was regarding external links.
  17. Hmm, I have a similar problem with my trolley jack, I can’t see a way of storing it below the boot lining. Does it fit in the space behind the wheel arch? You could carve a foam block to hold your jack securely and fashion a board that conceals the jack behind it and if you glue that board onto the foam it will hold it in place, maybe even find an appropriate OEM handle to attach to it. I saw someone on the LS group reupholster their tired centre console here and I think that material would look right in the boot to cover all that custom work. As for the other tools, would it be possible to mount the spare inside facing up? That might eek out a little extra space. Edit for clarity - flip the spare the other way round
  18. Never had any issues with breakdown cover on any of my old Benzes, all around the 30 year old mark. Not that I really use them barring some dicey motorway stuff and when I just started with the retromobiles. All that said, I make the habit of using a proper jack and chock, because of a bent scissor jack once, and the really sketchy 80's/90's Merc jacks collapsing and also a torque wrench because I'm an oaf that likes to snap all kinds of bolts. Plus hydraulic jacks are so much faster than cranking the car up, I can usually have a wheel swapped before I'm done on hold to the breakdown company thanks to the superior tools.
  19. Hey, bit late to the game here so maybe OP has figured a solution. My experience with space savers/steelies on a car with alloys is to be careful with wheel bolts. You might want a set of shorter wheel bolts as the longer alloy wheel bolts may cause damage to the hub, also the correct length of bolts definitely safer. Otherwise I prefer to ditch any original tools in favour of a hydraulic jack (bottle or trolley), breaker bar and correct sized sockets (remember some alloys have deep bolts so either an extension or longer sockets may be needed), all of this can be heavy but so much faster and safer especially if you're at the side of the road. Personally also carry a torque wrench because of my penchant for snapping bolts, but that's totally optional so long as you are careful. Also if you choose to go with the typical OEM tool kit, one thing that they never pack is a wheel block/chock, but strongly recommended for safety.
  20. Hey guys, from my experience large bonded screens with all the rain sensing gubbins end up being a fortune if they need replacement. Sure insurance will cover it, but they end up recouping it through increased premiums. So I wonder if anybody has this fitted on their cars? Is this worth it on a £5000 vehicle, especially if a replacement would a significant proportion of the total value of the car? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated, and forgive me for the silly questions.
  21. Hello all, First of all, been lurking here for a while doing research, so I would like to thank all of you lovely people for posting some amazingly useful bits of insight and advice, it's been super helpful in knowing what to look for during the buying process. It was JayEmm on youtube that first piqued my curiosity for a LS around the end of last year, and now with easing lockdown I've pulled the trigger on a 2002 LS430. I do wonder how many people have bought Lexuses (is that correct plural?) after watching his channel, hey maybe we will see him here soon since he seemed very keen on a 600H in his latest update. All the best Chao
