Bought mine this way too. Guy on the phone seemed a real gent, they had it up on the ramps and everything whilst we talked it over. I told him i would only buy it if the bodywork was totally rust free, he assure me there was no rust whatsoever. They delivered it on a trailer and i walked out to take a look. Imagine how $%$$ off i was to see a small thin strip of surface rust on the back wheel arch! Anyways, they paid for the repair. According to the guy that did the repair, rust is rare on these and usually the result of a botched dent repair, which is what he thought it was. Anyways, make sure you ask all you need to.

New exhaust needed
SeanR replied to zoricib's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Nothing worse than a droning exhaust. Expecting mine go soon, 12 years old now. The nearer the new one sounds like the old one, the better. -
Goodbye IS250?

Actually, think you would need a DeLorean time machine for any garage i can recommend lol, To be honest, they are a lot more straight forward than todays motors Another thing to watch out for, old engine wiring harness issues. Seen it with 300zx and Skylines, they get brittle over the years, seen a few guys replace them. -

Cant believe he is still going, but i used to use this guy. logistics page (zedworld.co.uk) Always had cars outside, some for spare parts. He did my manual conversion. Geoff or Jeff TT. (not sure which), good guy. -

Very sensible buying the N/A, less hassle. Yes, the facelift look much better, they changed the front too which i thought looked good. Very retro now, cool to see them on the road still, see a grey one near me occasionally. Remember watching Kill Bill, with the black car the girl was driving, made me wish i still had mine. Don't think they were serious rust buckets, a few spots where they were known to go, but repairable. -

Big fan of the 300zx, had one Watch it in the wet on bends putting your foot down, they can be lethal! Had an auto and converted it to a manual. Uprated turbos, intercooler, pistons, fuelling, injectors etc etc. Went like a rocket, that was totally rust free. Potential issues, knock sensor and make sure the turbos are in good order as changing them is a nightmare. You need to take the engine out but i have heard of folk cutting holes in the wings to do it(from memory) Jeff TT migh still be around, he knows them inside out, Luke Borg, also. Mine, miss it, 18 years ago now -
I gave it another chance, Set off to Leeds ok and it was going fine down the M62, it was even warning may of lane closure's that were accurate. I thought its actually ok but then once i arrived at Leeds it was telling me to go a different way to what i had jotted down the previous evening. I just ignored it and went the correct way, it then kept on telling me to head to the M1 At that point i just wanted turn it off. Its terrible, the worst i have ever used. Hope the new cars have something better. Got a new phone now so will just use that in future. Thanks all!

Thanks all, Vlad, im heading to the Leeds armouries, dont look too bad on the maps. Just tried the sat nav, typed in my home address whilst at work and its a 25 min drive. From the start it was annoying. It was obsessed with taking me home away that i would never go. So obsessed that it was even telling me to do a U turn when i was nearly home. It did not even tell me to turn into my road, kept telling me to take right and lefts to side streets that lead to nowhere. At one point pulled over to re-set and it was still **** Wonder if somethings wrong with it or i typed something in wrong, dunno. Will do it the old fashioned way and just write the directions down and take it from there. My phone is no good either, i use Siri. Often had me going in the total wrong direction lol Il get there, eventually.

Put £25 a week in a Fiesta 1.25 same old trip to work 5 days a week. The Lexus is £32 Whilst its not like 60mpg or anything, i find for a V6 its pretty good. Had a V8 supercharged Jag, think thats the reason im so laid back with this one haha Ps, we didnt have sky high prices when i drove the fiesta, so not really a fair contest.

Clicking and Clanking when Changing Gears
SeanR replied to Eri2Fiddy's topic in Engine & Transmission
https://victrans.com/transmission-makes-clunking-noise/ U joints mentioned somewhere too. -
Before i got the IS250 (and think im repeating myself here) i was looking at C or E class. E class had better build quality than the C class, All 2 litre models had timing chain issues, hence was looking at the E350 which had a better rep for reliability. Then though, less economy. Then, nearly bought a 2014 BMW 520. Again, timing chain issues. I spoke to an independent BMW specialist, asked him a price for a service and mentioned the timing belt issue. His honest reply was "At 80,000 miles they ALL start to rattle" On top of that you have the air suspension on some cars. Guy at work just spent £2000 plus having that repaired, From then on, just looked at Lexus, even though the economy was not as good, i felt id rather live with that then be worrying about paying out for repairs/timing chain. Older Mercs were better, my brov still drives a 1989 300CE, never had an issue. New ones are not made to last. Spent £3000 fixing a worn sprocket on a Merc CLS, it had only done about 60,000 miles. They are expensive junk Nice drive though, when all is well.

So you got £8500, thats great. There is a limit to what people will pay for these, folk have a sensible budget in mind. I saw them going for £10800 at lexus dealers but that was never going to happen, for me. around £7500 tops (at that time), no matter how low mileage. Since this next scare about gas prices, expect everything to drop, house prices too. £1000 though, no, far too low. If you a decent see one at that price let me know, might buy it and sell mine lol

Depends where you are in life. Had a WRX estate, was a brilliant car, going back some years now. Nippy and reliable, had bit of an image though, felt like a spotty teenager driving it even though i was in my late 30,s. Not really bothered about how fast a car is or how well it goes around corners these days, so long as its not **** at it. With age, views change. Jeez, im a boring******* haha
-
Hi, yes, £210 all in. Said they were not the budget ones either, but i guess i will only find that out should i be cleaning the back wheels more often lol. They said the front brakes, someone has put old pads back on new discs, i noticed they have a few lines. Terrible squeak on breaking, im sorting the back first as they are shot to pieces. MOT is winter, i prefer messing with cars and sorting stuff out when its nice weather.
