  1. Hi Damian the clunk I get happens about 30mph ish upto 40 ish when in traffic and feathering the accelerator on and off to keep the speed the clunk appears as though the car is taking up slack in the drive train. If you put the car into any gear other than 4th or 5th the problem is not apparent, well its not on my car. The dealer has a bulletin from Lexus describing this problem to perfection. They say it may be caused by bushings on the rear drive prop shaft or the diff itself. Dealer has the go ahead to do the fix but has not got the parts in to stock as yet. By the way the 18000 miles on the car are 6000 in the first two years and another 12000 since I purchased in July 2005. Tony Thanks, sounds like my problem may be normal after all as I was previously informed. Your explanation sounds clear to me, used to have a car many years ago which did what you're describing and it was a similar problem. br D
  2. Hi Tony, the clunking you experienced, was this at very low speed after you'd taken your foot off the accelerator? I've experienced the same but was told by a friend that this is the torque convertor disengaging but it's quite a clunk and therefore surprised it's meant to be normal? br Damian
  3. Doesn't work on the '05 RX400h. I would ask the dealer . There are a number of items the dealer can set maybe it's just that they changed the way you access this menu in the 400h. BTW took me a few goes to befor it recognised the order of pressing the buttons. br D
  4. Help is at hand, well to the seat belt issue anyway. Check this out: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=19663 br D Hand the phone to the passenger and they can dial the number on the phone itself. Still connects through the handsfree. Don't know if you were already aware of this. br D
  5. These were the same reasons why I didn't buy a BMW, took all of about 5 milliseconds to convince me that BMW have lost it currently. Always wanted a BMW straight six as they were always so silky smooth, but with BMW's like this I've been completely turned off personally. Same for the new 5 series, liked the old one and the one before that and the one before that. First opportunity to afford a 5 series and bangle screws it up. Interesting how they are subtlety toning down the bangleness elements. Latest 5 in M styling looks great, the curves start to work with each other rather than conflict which was part of the original bangleness. Starting to tempt me again but only in the M styling. But then you look inside, always a very strong reason for buying a BMW and as my 2 year old daughter has a habit of saying at meal times right now... YUK! :yack: What's with the dash going away from the driver eh?! And that double dash cowling looks awful. Friend of mine just bought a new 3 for a company car, Not very inspiring. But he deliberately opted out of the sat nav option because he didn't want the double cowling that you can opt out of on the 3. On the 6 they've got door handles which partially obscure the air vents. So it seems that the bangle bit is to make the opposite of what BMW has always led in ergonomics and one of the main reasons why people bought BMW. I simply cannot understand why a company who has spent years defining themselves as the ultimate driving machine would then actively choose to what appears to be completely undoing what they built-up. I can understand the need for new direction but to completely go in the opposite direction is completely bizarre. br D
  6. Just seen a problem with this adaptor from Dension which for me makes it not viable. RX300 sat nav with traffic avoidance needs constant radio signal. Fitting this system results in complete loss of FM signals so all traffic information both RDS based TA and via the onscreen maps traffic avoidance will be lost. Dension have confirmed this. However, speaking to Dension there is a new Ice Link plus for Toyota which they believe may work with the RX, They sent one out last night to a UK based customer who will probably be trying to fit it over the weekend. So in a weeks time Dension should be able to confirm whether this new Toyota specific ice link plus which is far better than the Fm solution would work or not. Will update this post when I have heard more from Dension. br D
  7. Just checked the status of the Dension iPod adapters on their site. Looks like in the last week or so they have updated the information given the introduction of the new Ice link FM which connects via the aerial connection on the back of the head unit. All Lexus' are now shown as being compatible!!! Great news. br D
  8. This should get the stereo unit out - I believe there is commonality in the RX330/300/400 in this matter. http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalLexusRX330Str.htm Tony ← Fascinating ! If this is for an iPod, please let us know how you get on !! ← Proceed with caution as I was told very clearly (although I would love for them to be wrong as I desperately want an iPod for my car but connected neatly and permantently in my own RX) that the US head unit whilst lloks the same from the outside is different on the inside on the european spec cars and other markets. best of luck!. br D
  9. 6680 should work. I have used a few with no problems. The newer Nokia handsets are now including the fucntionality to allow transfer of your entire phone book. Used my N90 the other day and worked a treat. br D
  10. Thanks everyone. Had the front pads replaced (18.5k) and couldn;t wait any longer apperently. rear ones will need to be replaced in around 4-5k. br D
  11. Hi, my car's booked in for an inspection later this week due to graunching noise when braking at speeds higher than say around 60-70mph. The noise is not metal to metal and the brakes still seem firm. At lower speeds the brakes are as you would expect them to noirmally feel. I'm not sure whether it's just a large build up of brake dust or whether they're on their way out. After 17k miles though I would have hoped they would last between services. Typically I'm not someone who's heavy on the brakes and for a large degree of the 17k miles the car has spent long periods with the cruise control set on the motorway. Those of you who have higher limeage Mk II's what life are you typically getting from your brake pads? Have any of you had to have disks replaced? thanks for your help. br D
  12. Only thing you can do it seems is to set-up all 18 one touch dials 6 numbers over three screens with those numbers you call most frequently. The other element I discovered which is handly is when you're moving press the phone dial button on the steering wheel to bring up the one touch dial screen. If you're not moving it brings up the phone menu screen with the key pad. br D
  13. Time to ask the question again. Anyone been successful in plumbing in their iPod into their RX300? I saw Dension had a new accessory which supposedly works via ANY car other than Volvo via the aerial connector on the back of the unit. Lexus GB are not very helpful in regard to this subject and my dealer says there are only multi-connector ports on the rear of the unit. The european units are supposedly different to the US ones despite on the outside looking identical. In the US it seems you can get iPod installations for Lexus but the same manufacturer (Dension) does not show Lexus comptability on their worldwide/european site. I don't want to use a FM transmitter as there are way too many stories of them not working very well without constant tyuning or degradation of sound quality. I fundamentally want a neat installation wioth just one connector for line out and charging and ideally control from the head unit rather than the iPod. Hope someone can throw some light on this. br D
  14. Both move but not always at the same rate. So for example one moves and then a fraction of a second or so later the other one does. They also don't move below certain speeds (15mp I think). Their movement is also dependeant on steering angle and roadspeed. I just had to have the height sensors replaced as the AFS light was flashing on the dash. They would stop adjusting themselves and would either be pointing up too high or too low as well as not turning to the left or right around corners. Now all is OK again though after the sensor being replaced. br D
  15. Hi John, thanks for the tip. In fact I neglected to say in my rant that we have just this week moved out of London. :D The issue of public transport and parking outside your home being just some of the reasons. br D
  16. Yeah, right that will make a difference! How many people voted against the extension last year, somewhere arounf 80% I seem to remember. So what happens? Ken says b*****ks and a year later wastes another few million £ of our money on new questionaires asking more or less the same questions as last year. And his intent, regardless of what is said in these questionaires, is already decided, and we know what that is. Perhaps once Ken takes his own children on the London public transport he'll see how difficult it is to use. e.g. London buses are only allowed to carry one buggy (not collapsed) on the bus. So if you have two young children and you want to travel on the bus during the week and say another mother is on the bus with a buggy you have to fold it up. This means putting the child who can't walk or stand yet on the seat whilst the bus driver is driving in thie usual maniac fashion. After collapsing the buggy you then put both of the children on your lap for an hour or so each way. Yeah you want to try that one sometime Ken! And if yo have more than two children?? Apologies for the rant. br D
  17. Can't really explain it. But perhaps in a car park someone caught it as they were walking passed and caused it to almost break off. Only become evident when you went to use it for first time maybe. br D
  18. When you press the voice command button on the steering wheel press the help button that appears on the touch screen. This will then list the categories and the commands available to you. br D
  19. ← I know about the RX300, just want to be sure about the RX400, before ordering a vaistech adaptor for my Ipod. If it has CD-Text, the headunit will display track titles etc. from the Ipod. Vaistech confirmed that US-models have the feature, I just want to make sure for the european one. Dan ← Let us know how you get on with the installation etc if you go for it. Would be really interested in this myself. Don't have an iPod, never been able to justify it based on my use but permanenetly in the car with all of my CD collection available would be highly appealing. br D
  20. Thanks and well done to you Michael. Already looking forward to smoother gear changes. br D
  21. Everybody is entitled to there opinions and I woudn't normally say something like this but there are parts of your post which frankly I find are insulting my intelligence. I have done almost 13k miles and I have tried to find a solution. How else do you drive over a speed bump for example? There are a number of them on my journey to and from work and I get stuck in traffic a great deal as I live in London. Here's the scenario. Car's slowed to around 8mph. I want to go forward, therefore I need to press the accelerator. I barely touch it, it selects first which in turn creates engine breaking effect and pushes you forward. It then realises it's mistake and then selects 2nd. As you appear to be a genius when it comes to driving, perhaps you could point out to the rest of us how we are all driving incorrectly in this situation? Many thanks and look forward to receiving your advice on this subject. As we've all said already the car would be perfect otherwise but this lurching is not comfortable for either myself or my passengers. br D
  22. Lexus experience - it isn't that good! Second that. Anybody else out there prepared to consider sending a complaint to TV's Watchdog about what is I believe a major drivability and safety issue on a luxury high spec product? Yes! Last night was in quite a hurry to get home. The thing was so unresponsive that again I ended up using manual selection for most changes. Even then it was slow to engage the gear selected hesitating to accelerate even though I'd selected the gear manually!! What was really annoying is that when I did try and select 1st at speeds where it would quite happily select first on it's own (only when you didn't want it to of course :tsktsk: ) and throw you out of your seat in the process, it just emitted a quiet beep !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give me strength! :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: Other than that we love it. :D br D
  23. Don't ask me where I saw it, but I have 2007 (based on a quote from what seemed to be a sensible source last year) in my mind. br D
  24. Was contacted by my dealer yesterday on this subject, which supports Japan's new interest in this problem. Was asked some very leading and loaded questions. effectively suggesting that this forum was the cause of me discovering the problem and without it I would not be here today. What BS! The fact is we live in London where town driving is the norm and when stuck in traffic it is painful and extremely embarrasing if you have passengers. Why should I feel embarrased driving a £35k car for ***** sake I should be loving it! I'm not sure about the type approval bit. Do they have to get type approval for anything they fix on the car? If they don't fix this will have to consider where to go. May go the same route as you. We love the car so it would be hard but I have also noticed an increasing level of vague behaviour. Some times under moderate acceleration it just can't decide whether to use 2nd or third for example flicking between the two 2 or 3 times in rapid succession. This is on a level road and I'm not varying the pressure on the accelerator. The other point, is the increasing occurance of putting my foot flat on the floor to pull away from a roundabout for example and nothing happening for what seems an eternity. This is the most worrying as I have now had a coupe of near misses as a result of this behaviour. I've also noticed as I use the manual selection more and more (to reduce the vague and slow response of the box( that even if I change down to second with my foot of the accelerator it may take a few seconds before it actually selects 2nd. Getting more and more concerned in a nutshell. As this is unpredictable what use is it taking to the dealer? If it gets as bad as you describe then I think we too will be forced to return the car. br and thanks again Michael. D
