  1. Yes, perfectly possible, this is the setup i have currently in my GS. If you empty the cd changer cartridge of discs it will let you select the changer "no disc" but will stay silent. Note that with this setup you have to disconnect the ipod to listen to the radio, as with the Lexus system all the audio paths are connected together. I have had this setup for a couple of years, it only works if you have something like an ipod which is "disconnectable". I'm having a 3 screen video system put in my car tommorow which is why i'm now going to develop a full solution with ipod control through the touchscreen and an extra input for the video system. Daniel.
  2. The FM and Tape adapters don't sound too good to my ears. The first generation NAVI systems have a problem which prevents all these Toyota / Lexus ipod adapters designed for post 2000 vehicles from working. see here for a potential solution. Daniel.
  3. I think Lexus need to do better in this regard, however the guys at Viastech do great working adding these things to Lexus' with second generation and later audio systems. They just aren't interested in supporting earlier cars, hence i'm having to do it myself....
  4. I'll be doing the development work on my MK2 GS, but i will be aiming to support all the 98-00 systems that the companies developing these products are ignoring. There is a caveat, i'm fairly sure (will know once my prototype hardware arrives in a couple of weeks) that the earlier audio systems only support one device, so it will mean loosing the use of the cd changer. Daniel.
  5. Has anyone been looking for an AUX in solution for the MK2 98-00 GS (NAVI and non NAVI) as long as i have? I may now have the means to construct such a device, interested to know if anyone else might want one too, economics of scale and all that... Daniel.
  6. I'd love there to be a hack for this, but i think we'd have seen one on the net by now if there was one, it really sucks how many options are disabled when moving. At least an updated disc gave me the option to navigate home and use the trip computer whilst moving, my original disc wouldn't even let me do that!
  7. One interesting thing you discover when you convert to LPG, on SatNav MK2 GS's the fuel gauge and cruising range drop even if you're not actually using any petrol, it works on kind of a "i know how much fuel is going into the engine and i know how much i had in the tank, so this is how much i should have". You can't rely on the guage or the computer to tell how much petrol there actually is in the tank, very bizarre. Daniel.
  8. I think you also get it in drive if your going slow enough - to enable reverse to be selected. Daniel.
  9. Have you had a flashlube system fitted now? Daniel.
  10. Let us know what the result of this is, this always seems to turn out expensive. I'm starting to think about getting rid of my 98 GS before it happens to me.... Daniel.
  11. Dealer will do servicing, but they tend to blame the LPG conversion for any problem they can. my GS300 MK II runs fine on LPG
  12. That would be my reg, mk2 GS also - same colour. No idea where M4 J33/37 is though....
  13. Lexus will lend you one for free - the number to phone is on their website if you look hard enough i seem to remember.
  14. The fuel computer resets when it detects that the fuel level in the tank when you start the car is not the same as when you stopped. Its a common problem if you park on a sloped drive or something and turn the car off quickly the level sensor hasn't adjusted and when you start the car it thinks you've put some fuel in. Its too sensitive on my GS as well. > it resets that when you open the flap for the petrol cap I assume, I get around 17 mpg on the mostly stop start trips i do in my car, no motorway etc
  15. Did you get a flashlube valve saver kit on it? Is the mkI VVTI? if so it'll definately need one. Daniel.
  16. If your petrol gauge works like mine it doesn't actually sense the level in the tank very often but just drops according to how much Petrol the computer "thinks" has been used. Your car may be using slightly more than the computer thinks - i'm not sure what mechanical problem could cause this, leaky injector maybe?
  17. When did you last change your battery? I find after about 6 months my range starts decreasing. The remote never seems to die just the range gets shorter and shorter.... Daniel
  18. I'd love to find a good independant garage to use as I don't find lexus particularly competent anyway. Not all GS300's have the fuel gauge work that way so i'm told, obviously its only a problem if you have an LPG conversion anyway. I'm a bit baffled as to why they designed it that way.
  19. Thanks for the welcome! I had my GS converted with a PRINS VSI Sequential injection LPG system, i also have a "flashlube" thing to stop wear in the valve seats. It will take a couple of years to pay it back but i've had this car for 4.5 years and can't see any other car thats better so i'm just going to look after it as best i can and make it last as long as possible. I loose 10% of my mpg visible on the trip computer, and its 10% worse than that. So on a typical trip to work my petrol mpg would have been say 24, the computer reads 22 but i'm actually getting 20..... Its a hell of a relief when it only costs £20 to fill it up tough. On a steady motorway run i can just get 300 miles to 55litres of lpg if i don't push it. The annoying thing about the GS (and i think i've seen someone with an IS and the same problem) is that the fuel gauge drops even if your not using any petrol. Every couple of days it will spring back up to the level in the tank and the computer will zero the "miles since last refuel". This means if your doing a lot of miles your petrol fuel gauge just reads zero all the time - damn annoying with the light on. The LPG place did warn me about the gauge thing and apparantly you can get some kind of gadget to fix it. Oh - the one big downer about the conversion is that Lexus Oxford have been really snooty about it. Anything that's wrong with the car "thats your conversion mate, can't touch it". Sometimes i think if my remote battery went flat they'd even try to blame that on the conversion...... To end this essay on an up note - the car drives exactly the same on lpg as it does on petrol bar a very very very slightly rougher idle.
  20. I had this happen to both my rear bulbs at exactly the same time, had to tap both sides before driving to work in the morning...... New bulbs fixed it.
  21. Like most of these this is an urban legend. see snopes.com
  22. Yes think it was a very dark colour, probably black. My MK2 is green yes.
