  1. Nice to see a bit of come forward honesty from a company for a change.
  2. Just an answer and it may be wrong. If you deliver an equal force through a small area and a larger area then that force becomes more destructive when applied to a smaller area as the force is more concentrated. Perhaps that implies that skinny tyres are less protective than a broader tyre for the same reason, but even if true the measurable difference may be insignificant in terms of damage done to the wheel. You know I am going to avoid putting this to the test.😉
  3. I think what is already clear is that it was the right thing to do to get two different make of cars. I can already see that the differences are going to be a source of appreciation rather than irritation. If I had bought two SC 430's inevitably I suspect I would have gravitated to one with the other doing more standing until I sold it off. With the SC and XK to move between I think there is less chance of that happening. Bit like a great roast dinner and baked pasta dish. Both to be enjoyed for different reasons. You don't have to choose between them !
  4. Just been to fill the tank of the XK as the guy I bought it off left it running on fumes. So, couple of initial points to make. 1. After adjusting driving position controls my first take on the XK is I feel to be sitting lower in this car comparative to the SC 430. That is almost certainly a design thing and you may ,or may not like that depending on how you like to sit within the car. Probably makes it feel that bit more sporty than the Lexus FWIW. 2. Exhausts of course are a bit more difficult to compare as we are probably a long way past original on these cars , or at least the Lexus. The SC 430 carries a bespoke S/Steel exhaust courtesy of Tony Banks ,Leeds. It brings a bit of the V8 rumble ,but dare I say it has not been setup to to go throaty. The XK looks like the original exhaust system and there is no paperwork to suggest otherwise so chances are you buy one of these of that period this exhaust is what you will get. It's significantly more throaty on startup and delivers more of that with acceleration so essentially a bit more noisy than the Lexus. Not bystander awful levels though. This probably sounds a bit more V8 than the Lexus to most drivers. Good thing ,or not, depends on what you like from the V8 by way of sound. 3. Now that beautiful sloping rear window and 'hippy' rear panels on the XK leaves rear vision pretty limited to say the least. Perhaps even more so marginally than the SC 430. Fortunately wing mirrors are good on both (turning down in reverse) and rear sensors on both are for me a must have. I will wait and experiment to see if the XK experience needs an additional rear camera. On the subject of wing mirrors the XK is that bit more advanced. They turn inwards when you power off the car and turn outwards automatically when you start up. They are also heated so good on frosty mornings. The SC 430 does also turn inwards ,but does so via a switch on the lower panel. Personally I think wing mirrors are a bit like dishwashers in that when you have ones that do it all there is no looking back as you get to appreciate the convenience and extra functionality. 4. Most of the controls that are physically accessible on the SC 430 dash arrangements are accessed on the XK via the touch screen. Fortunately the front and rear window heated elements are also physically accessed on the XK otherwise I would definitely mark that down for convenience. I don't think spending too much time having to look at the touchscreen to make changes is a positive thing. I prefer to be looking at the road when driving and especially so in heavy traffic. Ok, well 5 mins going to fill up only gives me so much to say ,but more will follow as I explore the car both for driving performance and for features.
  5. Moreover, dare I say many people have no quantitive idea what they are talking about when it comes to public pensions. For example, historically many people with private pensions chose when and how much to contribute towards a pension. By contrast currently in the NHS as an example my daughter has a personal contribution to that pension that deducts 9.8% of her gross income towards that occupational pension. Dare I say if anybody in any sector contributed 9.8% of their pay over a period of 40 years towards their pension then it would be job done. I am not coming back for a dialogue on that issue as it's not really appropriate to the thread, but I thought a balancing comment worth doing.
  6. I guess my question is what gives you that viewpoint regarding Japanese cars? Rationally thinking about competitive factors I can't see how you can just lump "Japanese" manufacturers and think that somehow they all just failed to match up on that qualitative issue to other global manufacturers. My commercial experience alone tells me that is unlikely. This is of course totally a separate issue from any cars that start showing some corrosion simply due to age.
  7. To misquote you how about " Old fossil's forever".
  8. Regarding advice be aware if it's the 'black' stuff these days it brings an advisory on MOT's to the effect the underside is not visible. When transparent stuff is now available it's easy enough to avoid that.
  9. 1/4 ltr ,or 500 mls is 2 large size glasses. These days I always end up paying £20 to £30 per bottle so you are on the money with that statement. That lot above for 13E is just ridiculous and I mean that in the very best way ! Lets face it this country it has become fairly pricy for a number of things that we like to do. food , drink, transport. I mean I feel my socialist leaning cells about ready to declare a revolution. Down with capitalism I say (if I am paying for it 😄 )
  10. I think you are asking the right question ,but to the wrong people. Ask the dealership exactly what they are intending to do before they do it. As mentioned in an earlier post this won't be an inhouse job as it requires specialist skills and equipment. Obviously take pics of the seat and indeed the areas around the seat so that you can clearly show the condition it was in when you left it in their care. Just a precaution.
  11. Yer collective masses owns it. Even me by proxy. irony does not escape me.
  12. I was thinking title S.O.S Sad Old Sods😉
  13. The problem is they likely have algorithm driven criteria for assessing ads. The things that alert us mean nothing to those algorithms. For example, you have the same SC 430 ad posted in about 4 or 5 different locations within the UK. Same price, same reg etc. However, when you report it they come back and report they are not going to cancel the ad as it does not breach their criteria. In that case all you can do is block the profile ( which means little as the scammers obviously have has many different profiles as they want), and of course hide the ad., but it will keep popping up under it's many aliases. Facebook probably will not get serious about scammers until someone decides that by law they are liable for any fraudulent losses incurred via their platform. Nothing motivates like seeing your bottomline diminishing.
  14. It isn't only boxers who are not quite has tough and resilient these days. Hows this for a commentary on the wood used to build your home. No words needed.
  15. They are also very lazy. If you go into the description you will find they have copy and pasted it. After just a little effort you will recognise their 'script' immediately just from that.
  16. I came across this and was left lost for words. " ***** Hyland and Ray Campbell after a fight in 1913. It lasted 110 rounds, 7 hr 19 min (9:15 p.m.-4:34 a.m.), and was declared a no contest (later changed to a draw). The longest fight in history" I cannot conceive how that must have felt physically and mentally.
  17. Probably, but not me (just in case the wife reads).
  18. Yup I don't look either ! 😍
  19. My apologies I should have said XK(X150). ! The extra X makes all the difference. Unfortunately I cannot see how I can edit the topic title. If there is a way anyone knows then please shout out. I wouldn't dream of comparing the original XK150 with a car half a century newer. It's pointless for obvious reasons.
  20. Now I have got the V5 form all sorted out and the car insured then tomorrow it will be road taxed and ready to go. I am going to use this thread to make a comparison between the two cars based upon my experience of owning and driving them. I will try to be objective, but bear in mind aesthetically I am a bit biased towards the SC 430. At this point I have not driven the Jag except to test drive due to me screwing up the V5 form at purchase completely forgetting that I was supposed to put this in my wife's name. That's now all sorted so we are clear for lift off. Having just come back off a 250 mile round trip in the SC 430 it's quite a good point to start the comparison. I will use pics where I think it's appropriate. Hope it is interesting for more than just me.
  21. I see one of the white one's has gone , and another white one has popped up on Facebook at less money. Meanwhile the Shipley one sits and wonders why am I not loved.
  22. You were right, brown envelope from the tax man tomorrow. Postal time lag effect.🤨
  23. Gary, So you're a little way in how do you find the drive of the SC 430? What wrinkles if any have you uncovered? How about a few pics not in the advert. Preferably with cobbles. 😉
  24. Makes sense you probably have a small boat inside that motorhome.
  25. Unfortunately not. That Motorhome belongs to my brother with whom we stayed just outside York. Can say with high confidence level that after 6 months usage with motorway mileage the SC 430 gives 400 miles per tank (75 litres).
