  1. I wouldn't worry about it too much. All the garage will do is look at your VIN plate, match it to a 3 symbol code, and flick through a kinda directory to find how many mils of each colour they need to mix to get your colour. If they've been in the business long enough, they'll know what they're doing. Just make sure that the garage are willing to supply a warranty on their paint repairs, otherwise steer well clear. However, I suppose it wouldn't do any harm if you contacted Lexus and asked them about the supply of paint. BTW, don't worry about the cleaning - when you see the finished result with black, you'll want to keep it clean all the time anyway ;)
  2. Especially if your going bald like me !! :D :D I've experienced a sunburnt scalp on many occasions !!!!
  3. Black is the easiest colour to match up. I've just done a few stonechips on my bonnet and will get some photos posted up after I've polished it up. ← Just to say ditto to what Mr Morse has put. I had a man from Flying Colours do a couple of paint chips on my Platinum Ice IS200 - he said it was the biggest pain in the arse he has done, and next time make sure I buy a BLACK car as they ARE the easiest to colour match. I've had three black cars in the past, and they are easy to even just touch in paint chips, so go ahead. You'll have no probs. :D
  4. Fair play - Jan didn't HAVE to do that. It's nice to know there are people out there supporting us.
  5. brill mate just what i was after im also coming from a diesel but i expect a shock at its thirst. looking around the site here some awsome looking cars ← No probs. They are b*****dy nice looking cars - I love the way the lines on the side of the car all meet exactly at the top corner of the boot, it makes it a real eye catcher. I also get the impression that they are already kitted out, so you don't have to spend anymore money in that direction (if you don't want to that is :D ) One other small down side is that the bonnets do get stone chipped. I'm not sure if it's the design or what, but if you can put up with that then go buy one. I think they do approx 28.9 mpg (just for the record - something to compare to yer diesel).
  6. Buy one !! I've got an IS200 SE - very nice :D Half leather seats with electric everything.. :D They do consume a fair bit of fuel (I hate the mpg needle which lowers everytime I press the accelerator) it makes me paranoid !! It was quite a tear-jerker when I first bought the car, but I did come from a diesel. You get loads for yer money compared to other camparable models (Beemers, Audis, Mercs.....) Very reliable (Japanese) Not particularly fast - more of a cruising car. The wheels are a brilliant design, easy to keep clean - but a real pain in the arse for corrosion although you can get them refurbished. Had mine done for £45 per wheel. I think that's my list of pro's and con's . Let's see if others have different opinions.
  7. I'm finding it hard to come to terms with what has happened. I just can't seem to picture the chaos and destruction that you must have seen. Glad you missed being IN it. It seems to put all our moans and groans about our cars into perspective - maybe the Lexus isn't so bad after all.
  8. I saw a couple of yellow IS300's last week in the States - they were drop dead gorgeous !! Buy it now !!!!!
  9. It affects London too mate ........ I was working it on Sunday, full riot gear ........ ← This might sound like a silly question, but how does it affect London ?
  10. My mate had a Peco on his Fiesta (many years ago) and you could hear him coming from about two streets away ! :D That was a really rich sound. I'm not sure if do or don't want the exhaust for the noise factor. The main reason is that the car is in such good condition that I feel as though the near rusty look of the exhaust lets it down (plus the fact that I've just come back from the States and the Lexuses over there are WELL modified).
  11. That's exactly what I'm looking for :) Can I ask how much it set you back ?
  12. Hi All, Just looking for some advice. I'm thinking of buying a kinda polished exhaust back end (just the pipe-back box-exhaust tip, if you know what I mean). I want it to stay the same sort of size as the normal Lexus one, just CLEANER looking and possibly meatier sounding. Does anybody have any recommendations and prices to point me in the right direction ? Thanks
  13. I'm fascinated how you managed to clean the details off your numberplate...
  14. I presume he was reading the sign when he took his eye of the road !!
  15. Mine's a 51 plate and I get the same probs. I just put up with it to be true - you seem to get used to it. It could be worse - it could be a Merc. I have driven the manual gearbox on Merc's and they are real trash.
  16. I'm not sure if this has been previously discussed, but please do keep reminding me what a fantastic car it is that I drive .
  17. Damn - it is on the back window. How delicate are those heating elements?. The sticker isn't that old (about 4 weeks) so i'm hoping it won't put up too much of a fight. ← Hopefully it shouldn't be stuck on that well. Try peeling from one of the corners, but remember to peel from left to right (or right to left) DO NOT PEEL UP OR DOWN AS YOU WILL BE PEELING ACROSS THE ELEMENTS ! I've done it on previous cars, and haven't had any probs so hopefully you'll be okay.
  18. Nice calipers, very cool. I take it your dog is getting high on the paint odours !!
  19. White spirit should do the job. Not sure about this one, but I have heard that vinegar works - but what a stink ! Be careful if the sticker is on your back window as you don't want to tear off / through your heating elements.
  20. There's also a site for Parker's Guide. You can type in your car details and it will give you a rough estimate.
  21. I got a couple of paint chips on my driver's door which I attempted to repair on Saturday. So off I went and prepared : Last week I cleaned the area, and touched in the chips so that the paint just overlaps the surface. This week I went out, cleaned the car, and decided to use some 1200 grit fine sand paper (soaked in soap) which was stuck on the end of a couple of pencil rubbers so that I could get real close in on the detail. Good news : The paint smoothed back to the surface, and I managed to polish out the scratchy kinda glaze that's left. :) Bad News : The edge of the sand paper made two nasty little marks which on closer inspection look as though it has gone back to the primer, and now looks worse than it started out !!! I suppose it could be worse, but what a bitch ! I need to find out now if there is anyone in Bristol who can sort this out. (I also wanna find out if there are any college courses in car restoration !!)
  22. Surely this won't affect your insurance. It doesn't affect the performance of the car ! PS. Going by the standard of the Lexus, don't buy alloys from Japan
  23. Yer rear lights have vanished too ← did i rub too hard ← Only you can answer that one bud !! :duh:
  24. Yeah, but ruins the art of conversation !! :D
