  1. Nice one - good tips there. Have seen the resume and went round the site and all looked good: lots of mercs being done - big oven etc. They have a web site too which I'd post except it seems to be down at the mo. (and I'm not sure about the rules regarding linking to co.'s) Car is Astral Black which as I understand should be much simpler to get good results versus something like plat ice. I'll ring them before i confirm to check that I can refuse if not happy with the work carried out. thanks al
  2. I got one of these too - fitment is a doddle - plug'n'play - no need for thread transplant. BUT as Mr.M says reception is much much worse, but I dont listen to radio and like the look so kept it on.
  3. Hi all, After looking around I've found a body shop in W.London that I like the look of, and the quote is reasonable, but one hears a lot of horror stories... I'd greatly appreciate any advice on how I can make sure that everything gets done to the standard the car deserves. Tips I already know are make sure that when I go to inspect the car it is in the daytime and the car is dry, remove as much from the car beforehand that i can and don't pay in cash. Is it within my rights to refuse payment if I'm not happy etc? Any other tips or things to check? (I'm having bonnet, front wings, roof sprayed - and TRD front lip fitted and several dinks sorted.) thanks :) al
  4. I can second ad77's recommendation of the P21S carnuba - great stuff.
  5. Cheers - was going to check with them - but was hoping to find out which body shop they use and go direct rather than through them, but I suspect I might have trouble getting them to give me that info....
  6. Hey all, Got my IS about a year ago - it had a few dinks and scratches here and there, and now after a year of stone chips (and a few body kit purchases) it's time for a trip to the body shop to fix them up and for a general blow-over. Has anyone had any experience (good/bad) of body shops in the Guildford area? (PM me if you don't want to name/shame publicly). Also, other than looking round the premises and seeing examples of previous work - is there any other advice for choosing where to go? Thanks in advance al
  7. Update: took it round to Lexus who were extremely helpful - it was sorted in about 5 mins with a hammer and a block of wood FOC. Everything back to normal. Big thumbs up for Lexus Guildford from me. :D al
  8. damnit - after another inspection in daylight - you're right. Big indent in the rear. No overall creasing but the back wall is pushed in a fair bit in the spare well. Must have been reversing into something pointy like a bollard rather than a wall or being rear ended by another car. I'm hoping this will be something that can be pushed out relatively easily - car looks fine, boot opens properly, no leaking so all I need is the spare to fit and I'll be fine. al
  9. Thanks for all the replies - will have a look for creases and get the tape meassure out. @bri-mc - I'll also give another go at trying to finesse the wheel in - but I'm not overly confident - seems just too tight. Will ring Lexus tomorrow too - and see if the own up to trying to fit it then failing and ask what they think is up. thanks al
  10. So I go to the car 2 days ago to find the nearside rear tyre is flat as a pancake (screw right in the centre of the tyre) - time for the spare.... only the spare is so tightly jammed into the boot that there was absolutely no way of getting it out without letting alot of air out first. hmmm. Luckily enough car was in for a service yesterday @ Lexus (got a new GS for the loaner :D ) - they repair the tyre - but when I go to pick the car up (after the dealer had shut so no one to talk to) - the repaired wheel + tyre is sitting in the boot above the wheel-change-tool tray - as if they tried to fit it back but gave up. Sure enough there's no way in hell I can squeeze the wheel back in the spare compartment without letting air out. My question is: has anyone else experienced the spare being a super tight fit? (expecially S owners who still have a 16" in the boot). And, if not - the only thing I can think of is that the car must have been shunted in another life (even though there are no signs of it anywhere) and if that's the case - what can I do about it? thanks al
  11. Wow - thanks for posting - I hadn't recieved a call - but I rang to check and it's there waiting for me - off to pick it up now. cheers!
  12. Mine do this too - hadn't noticed it was related to speed but now that you say it - that makes sense. Gonna replace them with some PIAA ones soon though.
  13. Not just Lexus Leeds - I ordered mine from Lexus Edgware Rd a while ago and I was told it would be ready by last Thursday - rang to check and was told December 13th now. Demand outweighing supply I guess.
  14. I got mine from Lexus Teeside last week for £69 inc P&P. Not sure if that's a nationwide price though.
  15. Great info indeed. Thanks Mars!!! My grille is ordered and ready for pickup in astral black on 8th Nov from Edgware Rd for £35. Just had delivery yesterday of a TRD Front Skirt from Lexus Teeside for £65 - which they confirmed had been ordered in from dealer-clearouts in Holland! Looks some very good deals coming up - is this worthy of a new (stickied?) thread? "Last days of the old IS bargain spotter thread"?
  16. I recently had to make a claim when my car was hit when it was parked. Direct Line decided the accident wasn't my fault and so no prob with no claims. They were onto driver of van who admitted responsibilty within a few days and the car was in the body shop the next week. It all depends if the woman who hit andrew will still admit responsibility when talking to her insurers, if so should be sorted quickly.
  17. Brilliant - they had holographic Lexus ads in Minority Report and now they're doing it for real! Loved the touch-screen changing the colour in real time too. Hope they roll these out for UK launch...
  18. Yep, them's the ones I was eyeing up.
  19. Lol - I've been watching them too. Sneakily hoping no one had spotted them (fat chance!) I feel a bidding war coming on...... :P
  20. No noises is a good sign, really. Take the hard disk out and try it in slave mode (change jumpers on back of hard drive: should be a sticker on it to say which jumpers to change) in another PC. good luck.
  21. How did the PC die? What does it do when you try to boot it up? If you're getting terrible noises from the hardrive (a kind of scratchy noise) then it's probably dead and the data is gone (unless you go for ridiculously expensive data recovery). But if it's just windows system files corrupted or even another bit of hardware gone *poof* then you should just be able to pop it into another machine and grab the data there, as mentioned above. In fact I've been able to successfully recover 90% of data from drives making scratchy noises in the past.
  22. I'd blame Norton - it has some kind of built in backup system I believe? Have a Google for how to fully uninstall Norton maybe?
  23. niiice - lotsa possabilities there.... (Some controller converters here.)
  24. Really nice install there, Billsy. Well done. One question though: how you controlling the N64 games - via touch screen?? Or have you threaded a USB extension through to the front too?
